Playground Toys

Our pupil council worked out which playground toys each class could afford to buy from the money raised at our recent dress down day.  They then held a vote to choose the most popular.  These toys will be coming to our playground boxes soon:

P1 – pompom balls

P2 – ribbon tail balls

P3 – comet tail balls and pompom  balls

P4 – ribbon tail balls and catch mitts

P5 – foam balls

P6 – comet tail balls

P7 – catch mitts

We hope our next dress down day is just as successful!

Maths Week in P5

We have been learning to say and write 6 digit numbers and we  have also been  learning the place value of 6 digit numbers. Then we were sequencing 6 digit numbers, sometimes we would start the sequence with the largest first and sometimes we would start the sequence with the smallest number. Then we used this skill in our topic as we created a timeline from present day to the 16th century.

Here is a WAGOLL example showing sequencing of 6 digit numbers starting with the largest number.
We sequenced large numbers to create a timeline from present day to the 16th century.

West Lothian Foodbank Appeal

This year we are again proud to support the West Lothian Foodbank’s Harvest Appeal.  To tie in with our school work on harvest and citizenship, we are now collecting donations for this worthwhile cause.

Non-perishable food items, as well as toiletries, can be donated at our school office any time before Friday 11th October.  Some suggestions from the foodbank include:

  • tinned food (eg beans, soup, spaghetti, tinned fruit and veg)
  • UHT milk
  • salt and pepper
  • pasta
  • savoury biscuits (eg crackers, oatcakes)
  • instant mash/pasta/noodles
  • cereal
  • toilet roll
  • shampoo/soap/shower gel

Thank you for helping us to support this very important charity.

Primary 3 Science

This week, Primary 3 have been learning about germs and diseases. We are investigating how germs can spread and grow on different surfaces by conducting an experiment with a potato.

We cut the potato into 4 slices and put the first slice in a plastic bag. This is our control slice to see how a potato would decay normally. We then rubbed the other slices on different surfaces before putting them into bags to see which would result in the most bacteria growing.  Our slices were then labelled and placed in a cupboard. We will have to wait until next week to find out the results.

Call for Help! Developing the Young Workforce!

Thank you to those who have responded to our form already.

We are keen for our pupils to have opportunities to learn about a variety of skills and knowledge that may help encourage and inspire them to consider different options in the future.

During the year there are opportunities for class learning to link with occupations and skills for work. We would like to build a bank of volunteers to approach during the year to come in to talk to the children.

This could be class, group chats or running a workshop, whatever you feel comfortable with. If you would like to volunteer to talk about your job or skills please fill in the form below.

This can be shared with parents, carers and members of the community.
