Here is our overview of the learning for this term.

P7 term 3 learning overview

Good morning everyone,

This week we have been continuing our learning across the curriculum where we have created links with our topic, Scottish Contexts.

Literacy

We have been developing our linked handwriting skills this week, where we have used our knowledge of Scots language and alliteration to complete various activities. Our spelling patterns for this week have also helped us work on our handwriting skills.

We are continuing to enjoy our class novel for this term which is ‘The Witches’ by Roald Dahl.

Reminder that Scots poems should be ready for Monday 24th January 2022. Please check the criteria on Teams to show you what is expected on recital.

Scottish Contexts

This week we have been completing our Scottish Colourists artwork. We have finished re-creating John Peploes famous piece of artwork – Pink Roses in a Chinese Vase. We hope you are impressed!

We were also given the opportunity to create a personal project about a Significant Individual from Scottish history. We had taken a vote as a class and chose David Livingstone. We also chose the way in which we wanted to display our learning (i.e posters, powerpoints, quizzes etc)

Numeracy and Maths

This week we have been exploring measurement where we were asked to work out the difference between estimating, rounding to the nearest cm and accuracy.

We have been working on column addition and subtraction where we have been working on the correct layout, carrying, borrowing/exchanging terminology with numbers up to and over a million.

 

This week in Primary 2 we have been successful learners through continuing our mini Scots topic by looking at two different Scottish artists. On Monday we looked at the work of Steven Brown and shared our opinions on his famous ‘Mcoo’ artwork. We then created our own Mcoo’s using crayons to layer our colours. On Wednesday we looked at the work of John Lowrie Morrison and compared his work with other artists of the expressionism era. We shared what we liked and disliked about the different pieces of art and commented on their use of colour and shape, then discussed that most expressionist art is distorted in some way to convey emotion.  We then created our own pieces of landscape art in an expressionist style through using bold and bright colours. This week we have been learning about Burns’ Night celebrations. We created invites for a Burns supper and decorated with different tartans.

We have also been learning about Scottish Scientist Alexander Fleming. We will be creating information reports about his work to share our learning.

Another super week in Primary 5! Please remember your homework is to continue practising your Scots poems, ready for next week.

Last week we started our mini topic on Scotland. We worked hard with Mrs Mcconville to create tartan, focusing on the different colours and patterns which links with our maths learning of shape and pattern. We also started to learn our Scots poems which are : Slaister, Lollipop Man and Bus Queue and we have began to practice these at home. We are looking forward to starting some more Scottish artwork this week.

We have had a great first, full week back to school.

During our Scottish topic we have been learning about the life of Robert Burns so that we can write an information report on him. We have also investigated a Scottish musician of our choice, from the past, and listened to a variety of Scottish music/artists and discussed what emotions each track triggered and what they made us visualise.

In Maths, we have been reading and plotting coordinate points on a Cartesian diagram. We have drawn shapes and recorded the coordinates for them too.

One of our pupils has been teaching us some Polish vocabulary. This week we learned how to say please and thank you.

P4 have been learning about Robert Burns in the context of a Burns Supper.  We had an introduction to Robert Burns and his life.  We listened to Scottish music, learned Scots Poetry and also learned about food that is produced in Scotland.  We also learned about what happens at a Burns Supper and then created our own Scottish Menus on a PowerPoint document in our Teams files.
