Primary 1 Update

Primary 1 have been learning about the life cycle of a hen. We sequenced each stage of the life cycle and discussed how a chick uses its ‘egg tooth’ to hatch from its egg. We also enjoyed creating our own chicks.

After reading the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff, we looked at lots of different bridges such as the Forth Rail Bridge and Tower Bridge, discussing their design and function. This inspired us to create our own bridges during block play time and to create detailed line drawings of bridges.

P6 Weekly Update

Morning everyone,

We have had another busy week in Primary 6. Here is what we have been up to…

Literacy – We have been working on imperative verbs (bossy verbs) to help us when we begin writing our next piece of writing this term, which is a procedure. We were provided with our feedback from our information report, where we discussed our targets and areas of strength/improvement. As a class, we developed our knowledge of how to link and join our writing which is one of our core targets. We also worked on our knowledge of prediction and clarifying.

Numeracy/Maths – We have been learning about the Order of Operations. We have worked hard this week to understand the correct order to work out different sums. Mrs McConville continued to develop our knowledge of perimeter.

IDL/Topic – We have been learning further information about the skeleton. We did some personal research where we picked an area of the skeleton and had to find out key facts/information. We will be moving onto the digestive system next and we can’t wait!

Languages – This week we had Christina introducing us to Romanian. We started by learning basic greetings alongside numbers. We are loving this opportunity to learn different languages!

Have a lovely weekend!

P5 STEM project week beginning 21st Feb 2022

Our first experiment was to investigate air resistance. We created o ring planes and we had to see how far they could fly. Well done to Jake as he created the plane which flew the furthest. After our test flight the children were given the opportunity to modify their plane to see if they could get it to fly further!

Our second experiment this week was to investigate electrostatic forces. To do this we use balloons. We rubbed them on our sweatshirts to charge them up and we tried to see if the negative charge would attract our hair. We had some hair raising experiences!

The next steps in our learning is to develop our literacy skills as we learn to write the procedures for our experiments.

Well done P5.

Mrs Campbell and P5

Primary 1

This week, P1 have  been learning about electricity. We talked about what electricity can do and discussed its importance in our daily lives. We were able to list lots of items that use electricity.

Today we worked with a partner to sort electrical items to show whether they are powered by batteries or by mains electricity. We know that electricity and batteries can also be dangerous and talked about how to stay safe around them.

Primary 2

This week in Primary 2 we have been successful learners  practising our addition and subtraction within 20. We learned about fact families and how to use these to help us find missing numbers in a sum. Here are some pictures of our maths stations.

P2/1 Weekly Blog

Primary 2/1 have been successful learners during phonics time. We have been building, reading and writing words with our new sounds. We are also becoming more confident at reading and spelling our common words.

Primary 2

This week in Primary 2 we have continued to work through our science topic sun, moon and stars. We explored star constellations and looked at the constellations linked to our star signs. We used our data gethering skills to find out everyones star signs. We had to be confident on our before and after number sequences to 30 to work out everyones signs depending on what date their birthday is, before creating a pictogram to display our results.

We continued to focus on our birthdays in french when practising our months of the year. We learned how to ask someone when their birthday is and how to reply saying my birthday is, before using our data gathering skills to put this into a table. Our birthday pictograms from last week helped us to check our answers!  Here are some pictures of our work:

Primary 2

This week Primary 2 had great fun taking part in the winter sports day. Here are some pictures of us in action

.

In maths we started to look at data handling and had a go at collecting our own data. We recapped how to use tally marks and then created a few pictograms to display our data. Super Work Primary 2!!!

Weekly update from Primary 7

We have been rounding off our Scottish topic by writing information reports on Scottish animals, the life of Robert Burns and Scottish musicians from the past.  Mrs Andison has been impressed by our report writing skills and how they have progressed over the weeks.  We are becoming more confident.

In Numercy we have been recapping measuring in millimetres, centimetres and metres. We were outside measuring as well as inside, and are improving our accuracy.  We have also been converting a variety of measurements.

In art we have been using oil pastels to mix the colours we saw in some thistles.  The results were very good.

In Science we have investigated echolocation and its purpose for different animals.

As well as all our learning, we have been planning a winter sports event for the whole school to take part in.

It’s certainly been a bust week in P7 and it’s about to get busier as we are stating to get Teams meetings and visits from staff at Broxburn Academy as the  start of our transition. Exciting times.

Have a great week ahead.

Mrs Andison and Primary 7

Primary 1

Primary 1 have been learning how to create information texts during writing time. This week we wrote about animals living on Katie Morag’s island including a sheep and a seal.  We had to include a title, an illustration with labels, and a fact about them. We are becoming more confident at sounding out words.

We have also been learning French with our teddy, Camembear, practising greetings, how to say yes and no, and how we are.
