This week has been a very short one but we have been very busy learning all about time and how people in the past used the sun, moon and stars to tell the time. We are learning how to tell the time on a clock face. We are so keen to learn how to tell the time we want to play with the clocks and challenge each other at every opportunity – even in soft start and free play times. Ask me what I have learned.
Jump Rope for Heart
This Friday is our Jump Rope for Heart event – a sponsored skip in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
This charity work to save lives and make life better for people with heart disease. The British Heart Foundation also work with schools through their Heartstart programme to train children in emergency first aid.
We are now an affiliated Heartstart school and Primary 2, 4, and 6 have been learning these very important skills with Mrs Hull using resources sent to us by the BHF. Now we want to give something back and help them to continue their work with other schools.
Sponsor forms will be coming home on Wednesday!! On Friday morning each class will take part in skipping activities for 45 minutes using long and short ropes with Primary 6 on hand to help with the counting.
Which class will manage the most skips without stopping? Who will show skipping style on the long ropes? Can the teachers keep up?
P1 & P1/2 Build Houses
This week, Primary 1 & Primary 1/2 had a challenge!
Porky the Pig needed a new house! But after seeing what had happened to his three pig cousins, he was very confused about what to make it from! So we offered to help!
We talked about what real houses were made from and why they were good materials to use. Then, we chose our own materials (from a choice of art straws, wooden blocks, stickle bricks, Lego bricks, cardboard and foam squares) to make our own houses for Porky to live in. We discussed why some materials were better than others and wrote Porky a letter telling him all about the best materials. We hope we have solved his problem!
Til next time.. (we’ll huff and we’ll puff..)

P6 weekly blog
Last week we made 3d bridges as part of our rivers project. They will be on show at our curriculum evening next Wednesday 2nd of April so please come along to see them as well as other things we have done as part of this topic.
Well done to Molly, Leyla, Yasemin and Finlay B for their performance at the Eco talent competition. Finlay stepped in at the last minute as someone else was off.
Thank you all for coming to parents’ night. It was good to see everyone and there were a lot of very postitive comments for people to take home. Well done to the P6 helpers who gave up their evening to come along to help.
The Eco Factor
Have you been practising your entry for the Eco Talent show next week? The Eco Committee will be hosting the Eco Factor and judging the best two entries from each class to find the best Junior and Senior Eco acts in school. In class Auditions will be held very soon – the Big Final is on Thursday 20th at Assembly. Remember, if you want to win, your act MUST contain and very clear ECO message…

Red Nose Day – Friday 15th March 2013
On Friday things will be a bit different in our school…
There will be many new members of staff and several new pupils as we take part in the Job Swap on Red Nose Day. The children are taking over!
AND
To raise money for Comic Relief we will be giving 50p to pop out of bed and wear red instead of our school uniform on Friday.
Pupil Council Meeting
The Pupil Council met on Thursday and it was a pleasure to welcome reps from Primary 1, 2 and 3 for the first time. Josh, Natasha, Sophie and Ella are going to be a great help to the Pupil Council. At the meeting all of the Pupil Council reps shared their thoughts and ideas and were a credit to the classes they represent. We have another meeting planned in February when the Pupil Council reps are going to help prepare an assembly for the whole school. Some Pupil Council reps will also be busy in the next few weeks helping our support staff choose some new resources for the playground.
