Just a quick reminder this Thursday we will be doing our assembly about life in the 16th Century at 1.15. See you there!

Primary 4 Reflective Learning

This week, we had our Celtic time-travelling assembly! We were FANTASTIC and Miss McLaughlin was very proud of our hard work. Thanks to the staff (Mrs Hull, Mrs Ross, Miss Young and Mrs Stanton) and P7s who helped us (Yasmin, Liam, Finlay and Aleisha) and to the family members who came to see us.

On our learning this week…

Lauren: ‘This week, I did well with gym because I kept the ball near to me.’

Matthew: ‘I found Big Maths tricky this week because of some of the times tables.’

Ula: ‘I did well at gym because I was good at controlling the tennis racquet.’

Hallie: ‘I did well at science this week because I was able to talk about pitch and frequency.’

Freya: ‘I found ‘th’ words tricky. Next time I will practise more at home.’

Primary 3 learn more about Paul Klee

Primary 3 have been discussing the artist Paul Klee in class. We used his same line drawing technique to create our own piece of art. In science we have found out about the different things electricity is used for and where it comes from. We also connected our own circuit which was great fun!

This week we had a very sad letter from Mr Hedgehog telling us about his friend Mr Robin and his family who are having a problem getting food to feed them now that the weather is getting colder.  We have been thinking about how we can help  him.  We worked in small groups to talk about what we know about what birds eat and recorded our ideas to share with the class.  We have decided to try and help by finding a recipe for bird food and making some bird feeders.  We are going to be very busy.

Other comments about our learning this week:

I loved painting the poppies to help us remember the soldiers that died – Jessica

I’m really enjoying my new reading book this week about baby animals – Abbie

(Abbie enjoyed it so much she drew the animals and their babies from the book and shared it with her group)

Next week we are looking forward to learning more about how we can help Mr Hedgehog and his friends.

We have had a busy time since we came back from our October break.  We are excited because we have now learned all the sounds of the alphabet letters and are able to build and write words using them.  In maths we are learning to read the time on clock faces and digital clocks.  We made fantastic firework pictures in art after watching a firework display.  We are looking forward to our marble treat as we filled the jar again.  We are also looking forward to learning about our topic “Rescue Rangers” and what we can do to help keep local animals safe.  We have had great ideas so far.

This week we have been finishing off our art work by completing the last stage of the creative process by making our masks.  We had to select the material for our masks, use glue to stick different things to the mask and finally paint our masks.

First we had to make a plan of our masks.

This week we had our trip to Linlithgow Palace and Annett House as part of the work we have been doing on our topic about life in the 16th Century in the time of Mary Queen of Scots.  We also had a look along Linlithgow High Street to see if we could spot things which are still there from that time.

A real cannon ball!
