This week, Primary 4 (& 6) were let loose from school and took an adventure to Dynamic Earth!

We had a great time and learned loads about famous inventors, climate zones and space! We even got a chance to have a turn in a time travelling elevator!

Other things we learned…

1. Don’t sit next to Miss McLaughlin on the bus.
2. Don’t sit next to Miss McLaughlin when snow/foam is blasted everywhere.
3. Don’t sit next to Miss McLaughlin in the Showdome.

In fact… Steer well clear!

As part of Cultural Diversity Week Primary 3 have been comparing the daily routines of children in Scotland, Brazil, India and Russia. We finished off the week with some food tasting. We all enjoyed the different Indian food we tried, although some of the boys and girls found it a bit too spicy!

 

 

 

Children from our P7 class attended the above event today. It was a day of proper Scottish weather as we experienced all seasons in one day! Our athletes were very dedicated and braved the mixed conditions.

 

They took part in the 600m, 80m sprint, long jump, shot putt and relay.  They tried really hard while supporting their classmates.

Eilidh Anderson brought back a 2nd place medal for the 80m sprint. Well done Eilidh!

Huge well done to Liam Thomson, Craig Lawrence, Ciaran Cumming, Jordan Wilson, James Halliday, Ben Salvin, Dolce Gordon, Niamh Brown, Finlay B and Kristinna Sharp.

 

Looking at bringing together various elements of learning and engagement which we want to take forward and considering the ethos and the vision we have for PUSCPS we are planning a SHARED FOCUS WEEK around the upcoming International Day of Cultural Diversity in May.

A shared focus week allows all pupils in school from N-P7 to work on the same sets of outcomes at their own level and demonstrates the progression of learning across the stages. Cultural Diversity is an increasingly important consideration and our curriculum aims to develop pupils as responsible citizens.

We will launch the week in school with an assembly for pupils on Thursday 21 May – International Day of Cultural Diversity –  and pupils will then work over the following week on planned learning opportunities to develop understanding and awareness of diverse cultures.

On Thursday 28 May pupils will lead other pupils on a learning walk sharing their learning with pupils from N-P7 in the same group – these are our Pumphie Pals groups.  This will prepare the pupils for sharing their learning with you.

On Friday 29 May at 11:30– parents/carers/family are invited to a sharing learning afternoon where your child will guide their visitors around their class and the school on a learning walk.  This will be an opportunity to talk to pupils about their learning and see what they have been doing during Cultural Diversity week.

Fractions! We have been learning all about fractions.  First of all we discussed the vocabulary of fractions.  There is quite a lot to remember. Can you remember it? numerator / denominator / whole number / mixed number fractions / improper fractions, halves,  thirds, quarters, sixteenths, twentieths.  First we were identifying fractions eg 1/4, 1/6. Then we looked at mixed number fractions eg 6 2/3 and now we are learning about improper fractions eg. 34/7. Lots of fun!

In music we have been learning how to control our breathing.  We have been lying on the floor so we can concentrate on using all of our lungs to take in air (link lizard : science!). We have been learning how to warm our voices up properly. Our main focus is to sing rounds, one group starts then another group comes in. We are making very good progress. Look out X Factor 2021!

We are very busy with our Cultural Diversity project but we are not telling you about it yet! See you on Friday at 11.30am……………………………..

Mr and Mrs Comrie came to our assembly last Thursday to collect a £700 cheque for Magale school in Uganda. Our fundraising will go towards buying beds for the children in the orphanage and to buy books for the school library. There is an article on our fundraising in the West Lothian Courier this week. Thank you to all of the children and parents for your support with our Magale fundraising initiative.
