Primary 4 Prepare for the Desert!

This week, Primary 4 were preparing to take a trip!

We have been exploring our Climate Zones topic through storyline. We created families  in table groups and prepared their passports for travelling. They visited a Polar climate in Barrow, Alaska, where there were freezing temperatures and lots of snow/ice. We made picture postcards to show our families dressed in warm clothes, riding the Tundra buggy and spotting polar animals!

Then, our families took a long flight to the Sahara Desert. It was extremely hot and dry, so our families had to keep covered to stop them from getting sunstroke. Few people can survive in the desert, so there were no hotels or holiday homes for our families to stay in. So, using the little batch of materials we had, we designed places for them to stay. Have a look at our designs below – what do you reckon?

Our next trip will take our families to the rainforests of Brazil – check in with us to see how they are doing!

Until next time…

Primary 2/3 learning

We have again had a busy week.  In handwriting we are learning how to join letters together correctly – Mrs Andison will be looking for evidence of this in all our writing.  We had great excitement this morning when a letter arrived from Mr Willy Wonka asking for our help.  He has asked us to help him design a new room for his extension to the Wonka chocolate factory.  We have been very busy recording our ideas for his new room.  We hope we can help.  We are reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as our class novel and are really enjoying it.  As part of our topic we have begun to learn where chocolate comes from and how it is made.  We are really looking forward to learning more about chocolate!

Have a fantastic weekend and stay safe.

P3 Scottish Topic

‘I enjoyed taking notes about Robert Owen and writing them into sentences. My work was so good I got to show Mr Eagleson it’. Murron

‘I enjoyed learning my poem and reciting it for everyone at the Scots Assembly’. Tristan.

‘I enjoyed learning the brussel sprout poem’. Hayden

‘ I loved making the thistles because I enjoyed putting the wool on it and ripping up the green paper and gluing them on to the picture’. Renee

‘ I liked doing my own version of the brussel sprout poem. The food I don’t like is mint so I described that’. Kelly

Primary 4 Turn Poets!

This week, Primary 4 finished their Scots’ topic by exploring poetry. We had loved learning ‘The Pizzenous Pet Shop’ by Gregor Steele, so we decided to create our own verses to add to the poem. This brought in our learning about Scots’ animal names and describing words.

Here are some of our fantastic verses below…

“The honkin’ hamster scarters again,
This time it’s stuffed its cheeks,
Wi’ mouldy veg an when it’s oot,
It splatters aw owre yer breeks.”   Kristina, Boe & Josh

“The gallus grumphie is manky,
It snorts baith day an nicht,
It sooks its slops fae its trough,
An rips yer socks an tichts.” Charlie & Lauren

“The sonsie selkie dives through the water,
Upstairs, doonstairs, aroond the sea,
Lassies crood aroon in their bonnie breeks,
An invite him owre for tea.” Lachlan, Kamila & Cerys

Miss McLaughlin was very impressed with our hard work. Maybe Gregor Steele might peek at our blog and update the poem with our verses!

Congratulations to Boe & Oliwia, whose work will be added to our Scots’ display. Congratulations also to Lauren, who is our Star Writer for this month.

Until next time…

Primary 2/3 learning

This week in Maths we have been learning how to gather information, put it in a table with tally marks and then make a bar graph from the information we have. The Primary twos have been learning about alphabetical order while the primary threes have been to Fun Fit along with the rest of Primary three.

We had a great time at our Scots assembly and hope all those who came were entertained by our singing.  We were all very proud of Rosa who said her very tricky Scot’s poem with great confidence – well done Rosa!

On our Scottish theme this week we used our pencil drawing skills to draw thistles, we wrote our own Scottish song and we learned how to count to twenty in Scots.

Ask us at home to teach you the numbers we know.

Have a great weekend and stay dry.

Our School Gardens

gdnhd

We are trying very hard to make our school grounds an interesting and stimulating environment for our children to play and learn in. We are always looking for volunteers to help us with digging, landscaping, general maintenance or ‘heavy’ work tasks in our garden. If you have some free time and are interested in helping then please contact Miss Baillie or the School Office for more information. All volunteers are very welcome!

Sparks were flying in P3!

P3 are training to be electricians of the future! Last week we were making simple circuits. First we made a circuit with a light bulb then we made a circuit with a buzzer.  After that

we made a more complicated circuit with a light bulb and a switch. By using the switch we could make the light go on and off!
