Primary 1 blog

This week in numeracy, Primary 1 have been continuing to learn subtraction.
In science, we have been investigating forces. Through experiments and discussion we learned about items which move through being pushed, pulled or both.

P2/1 Blog Week beginning 20.3.23

This week in numeracy we have continued to concentrate on subtraction (P1 within 10/P2 within 20).  We have been exploring data handling in maths.

Primary 2 have discussed and written their ‘Evaluation’ for their Information Report on Kittens this week and P1 have been writing about bath time.

We made our regular visit to the library on Monday.

We have been exploring ‘Relationships’ as part of our Resilience learning.  This week we talked about ‘In our family we like to…….’

We worked hard and performed our assembly on ‘France’.  Well done to all of the children, you were fantastic!  Thank you also to parents/carers and family for your support.

P6 Science Day @ Broxburn Academy

P6 had a great day at Broxburn Academy for their science day. They took part in three experiments.

For the first experiment, the class made o-wings – they were measuring to see the average distance they took to fly depending on how big the circumference was of the wings.

For the second and third experiments, P6 got to experience being in the science labs. They were given a talk about lab safety, then got to use the bunsen burners, studying different chemicals and the colours they made under the flame!

The last experiment consisted of making a rocket, simply using an seltzer and either hot or cold water, to measure how quickly it would take off!

When P6 returned to class, they made posters labelling the importance of lab safety, so that when they go to high school next year, they are well aware of the importance of lab safety. Well done P6!

Primary 1 have been helping Katie Morag this week as there are problems on the Isle of Struay. The lighthouse on the island is falling down and Katie Morag needs our help to design a new one. We worked hard to complete our design challenge.

Primary 6 world book day

Huge well done to Primary 6 for delivering a fantastic assembly on World Book Day. It was wonderful to see the class, and the rest of the assembly sharing their love of reading. It was also lovely having the parents in and reading with their children.

In class, P6 participated in various reading activities, including recreating a book cover of their favourite book and explaining why they liked it. We also joined in with a BBC live lesson. All the classes went to author masterclasses in different classes to learn about all the wonderful authors out there.

Great effort P6!

Primary 1 Blog

Primary 1 have been learning about halves. We made cakes for one another with playdoh then cut them in half. We coloured halves of different shapes and found halves of numbers using our counters. We talked about when in real life we might need to use halves.

On World Book Day, we enjoyed reading Gorilla Loves Vanilla. We talked about words that rhyme in the book and completed a rhyme challenge with our friends in P2/1.  We talked about our favourite ice cream and designed our own delicious ice cream sundae.

Primary 1 Blog

Primary 1 have been learning about money and the value of different coins. To help us with our learning, we set up a class shop, played coin matching games, made coin rubbing pictures and completed a coin sorting challenge.

This week  Primary 1 have been investigating finding pairs of numbers that when added together make ten.  We used counters and numicon to help us and enjoyed playing smartboard games and number bond bingo to practise what we have learned.

As part of our school Resilience programme, we talked about people who are special to us and drew pictures of who lives behind our front door,

P6 weekly round up

This week Primary six have been learning about fractions. We have learned how to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions by looking at concrete materials and recording our answers.

For our Scottish themed topic, we have been researching the Scottish Colourist, Samuel John Peploe. We recreated one of his pieces “Tulips” – and alongside this we have been drafting out a procedural text to instruct people on how to create their own.

For reading, we have been studying Friend or Foe – this week we focused on using empathy to ask questions about the main character, with some children pretending to be the main character to try and work out how he might be feeling.

For PE we are doing handball – this week we were looking at our passing skills – jump passing, bounce passing and overhead passing.

Primary 6 are very excited for their upcoming excursion to the Sky Academy on Monday – parents please make sure children are in sharp so that we can all leave on time 🙂 thank you
