This week we celebrated Burns day in Primary 1. We learned about Robert Burns and why he is a famous Scot. We drew our national flower, the thistle using oil pastels and we had a Scots food tasting. We tasted haggis, neeps and tatties and then we had oatcakes with cheese and some tasty shortbread!
Dress Down Friday
Remember that this Friday (27 January) is dress down day and pupils may wear their own clothes – not make-up, jewellery or football colours.
This month’s donation is in aid of NAIT babies which was suggested by a family in our community who have been affected by this.

Last week we looked at other pieces of art work from Jolomo (John Lowrie Morrison). Here are more paintings in the style of Jolomo. Â We hope you like them. This week we used primary colours ( blue /white / black). We mixed primary colours to make secondary colours ( we mixed white and red to get pink).
Primary 5
This week, Primary 5 were trying to improve their problem-solving skills!
We were focusing on multi-step problems, where we had to link two operations together (e.g. multiplication and addition, or addition and subtraction). We were given problems in context and had to use key words to work out the operations we needed to use. We also had to make our working very clear so Miss McLaughlin could see the steps we took. Have a look at some of our work below.

Check in with us to see how well we use our multi-step problem skills!
Until next time…
Primary 5 & Miss M 🙂
Primary 1
Primary 1 have been busy this week learning a Scots poem for homework. Today, everyone got a chance to recite their poem in front of the rest of the class. Some children chose Mince and Tatties as their poem and others chose Robin Reidbreist. We all met our success criteria which  was to speak in a clear voice and make eye contact with our audience.
Scots Assembly Auditions
On Tuesday afternoon Mr Eagleson and the Pupil Council Reps auditioned the ‘turns’ for our Scots Assembly on January 31st.
There were lots of fantastic acts hoping to be selected and we have chosen the pupils to take part. Â Below is a programme for the assembly so you can see who is taking part.
Our annual Scots assembly celebrates the valuable contribution which older friends, family and neighbours make to the lives of our children and our community.  For once, parents/carers are not invited to this assembly unless your own child is performing. Please respect this in order to allow us to share the afternoon with our older community members.
If your child is selected to perform, an invite will be sent home with a copy of the programme. Â We would like to invite grandparents or other older relatives and friends to the assembly and an invite is sent home to all pupils for this.
Please complete the slip attached to the invite with the name of the older friend or relative who would like to attend and return this to school so we can plan.Â

As part of our Scottish topic we are looking at the art work of the Scottish artist Jolomo. We are learning to paint in the style of Jolomo. First we looked at a selection of Jolomo’s paintings and decided what one we wanted to paint. Here are some pictures of the re creation of Jolomo’s painting of Halaman Bay.
