Primary 2/3 learning

We have again had a busy week.  In handwriting we are learning how to join letters together correctly – Mrs Andison will be looking for evidence of this in all our writing.  We had great excitement this morning when a letter arrived from Mr Willy Wonka asking for our help.  He has asked us to help him design a new room for his extension to the Wonka chocolate factory.  We have been very busy recording our ideas for his new room.  We hope we can help.  We are reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as our class novel and are really enjoying it.  As part of our topic we have begun to learn where chocolate comes from and how it is made.  We are really looking forward to learning more about chocolate!

Have a fantastic weekend and stay safe.

Primary 2/3 learning

This week in Maths we have been learning how to gather information, put it in a table with tally marks and then make a bar graph from the information we have. The Primary twos have been learning about alphabetical order while the primary threes have been to Fun Fit along with the rest of Primary three.

We had a great time at our Scots assembly and hope all those who came were entertained by our singing.  We were all very proud of Rosa who said her very tricky Scot’s poem with great confidence – well done Rosa!

On our Scottish theme this week we used our pencil drawing skills to draw thistles, we wrote our own Scottish song and we learned how to count to twenty in Scots.

Ask us at home to teach you the numbers we know.

Have a great weekend and stay dry.

Primary 2/3

This week has been very busy and we have been learning more about measuring – we measured our own height and used metre sticks to measure larger items (Gillon).  We used the information we got on our height to make a table and used this to answer and ask questions about the information (Rosa).

In writing we were learning about rhyming patterns and we wrote our own class version of the ‘Three Craws’ by changing it to the ‘Three Doos’ (Summer).  We had great fun doing this!

In Art we have been using our pencil skills to draw a detailed image of an orchid – we want to use these skills to draw thistles and other Scottish wild flowers(Mia, Ellie C,Calum and Summer.

Next week we will have a Scottish twist on a lot of our learning in celebration of Rabbie Burns.

Have a great weekend and enjoy your haggis, neeps and tatties if you’re having any.

Primary 2/3 Learning

We are so happy to be back to school after our holidays.  We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New year.

We have been learning about Eric Liddell this week and have been writing fact files about his life.

He won the 400m race at the Paris Olympics in 1924 (Mia)

He won a gold medal and set a new world record for that race in Paris (Oskars)

He was most famous for not running his Olympic race heat on a Sunday because it was a day of rest (Abbie and Bailey)

We know lots more facts about Eric Liddell so ask us about what else we know.

In Maths this week we have been learning how to measure accurately in centimetres and to draw lines to the correct size.  We have also begun to estimate measurements of items and lines drawn.

Have a great weekend

Primary 1/2

Well it has been a very busy week for us.  We had our Nativity dress rehearsal in front of the school on Tuesday and then our performance for our family and friends on Wednesday.  We were all stars!  We were a little nervous at first but put on a fantastic show for everyone.  We enjoyed it so much we we wanted to do it again.  We are all looking forward to our party next Monday and to wearing our Christmas hats on Tuesday at the sing-a-long.  Mrs Andison is looking forward to seeing everyone’s hats as the ones that have come in so far are fantastic.  We are also looking forward to a special visitor next week – hopefully bringing presents when he visits.

Have a Fantastic Christmas everyone!!!

We’ll see you all in the new year.

P1/2

This has been a very busy week with lots of rehearsals for Miss Speirs special leaving assembly.  We have had some emergencies in our animal hospital role-play area.  The most recent was Rudolph who has had a very sore nose.  We have been looking after him to make sure he is ready for a special day, very soon.

We have been learning to count forward and backwards to 20 – ask me to show you.

P1/2

This week we have enjoyed watching the P5 assembly. This week we have been learning about electricity and how much we need it as well as how dangerous it can be.  We wrote our own safety rules to help us remember to keep safe when using electricity.  P2s in the class have been learning about simple electrical circuits and we built our own making a bulb light up.  We have been learning about numbers to 20 and we learned some hedgehog facts that we wrote about.

We have a plan to help Mr Robin and his family,  so next week we will be very busy making bird food.

Ask us about our animal hospital that we now have in the open area.

Have a great weekend.

P1/2

This week we had a very sad letter from Mr Hedgehog telling us about his friend Mr Robin and his family who are having a problem getting food to feed them now that the weather is getting colder.  We have been thinking about how we can help  him.  We worked in small groups to talk about what we know about what birds eat and recorded our ideas to share with the class.  We have decided to try and help by finding a recipe for bird food and making some bird feeders.  We are going to be very busy.

Other comments about our learning this week:

I loved painting the poppies to help us remember the soldiers that died – Jessica

I’m really enjoying my new reading book this week about baby animals – Abbie

(Abbie enjoyed it so much she drew the animals and their babies from the book and shared it with her group)

Next week we are looking forward to learning more about how we can help Mr Hedgehog and his friends.

P1/2

We have had a busy time since we came back from our October break.  We are excited because we have now learned all the sounds of the alphabet letters and are able to build and write words using them.  In maths we are learning to read the time on clock faces and digital clocks.  We made fantastic firework pictures in art after watching a firework display.  We are looking forward to our marble treat as we filled the jar again.  We are also looking forward to learning about our topic “Rescue Rangers” and what we can do to help keep local animals safe.  We have had great ideas so far.
