Primary 1 – P.E
Primary 1 – Scottish Focus
Last week the children in P1 have been learning some Scottish words and poems leading up to Burn’s Day.  We had a very hard decision choosing 2 performers for the Scottish Assembly on Friday as lots of children had done so well learning and practising a poem.
Well done to the two P1 performers reciting ‘Twa Wee Birdies’ and ‘Twa Leggit Mice’.

The children will get a chance to recite their poems in class on Friday 17th January and a boy and girl will be selected to go through to our school final on   25th January.
Jack and Jill
Twa wee birdies,
Sittin on a hill,
Ane ca’d Jack,
And anither ca’d Jill.
Flee awa Jack,
Flee awa Jill,
Come back Jack,
Come back Jill.
Twa-leggit Mice
by JK Annand
Ma mither says that we hae mice
That open air-ticht tins
And eat her chocolate biscuits
And cakes and sic like things.
Nae doot it is an awfy shame
That mice should get the blame.
It’s really me that ripes the tins
When left alane at hame.
But jings I get fair hungert
And biscuits taste sae nice
But dinnae tell ma mither
For she thinks it’s the mice!
P1 – What’s the Time Mr Wolf?
We are learning to … read and set o’clock times.
I know … the small hand tells us the hour
I know … the big hand should point to 12 for o’clock
This week P1 have continued to learn how to tell the time on an analogue clock. We know that the big hand tells us the minutes and the little one is the hour hand. We have been playing lots of games to help us read the time. Each child has made their own clock and these were sent home at the end of last week.

Primary 1 – Sight Words
A Little Unicorn Magic in P1
In P1 we have been reading ‘Sophie Johnson – Unicorn Expert’ by Morag Hood as part of our IDL topic.  We have been exploring lots skills linked to the book and showing our understanding of the story.
Last night, our janitor noticed something a bit strange on the class camera. We think some creatures might have had a little visit to our classroom when we were not there! Can you spot them in our clip?
Today in writing, we tried to draw where we think they have come from. It was very exciting!
Will there be anymore magic in P1?
P1 Cafe
As part of their ‘Working Village’ topic, P1 ran a café today for P7.
P7 buddies were invited along to be served a snack and drink. P1 had used their writing skills to prepare tickets and menus for the cafe.  The children had to recognise different coins that P7 pupils kindly donated today.
Everyone took their roles very seriously and made us all so proud.
We are going to count the money after the holidays and choose something to buy for the P1 classroom.
Happy Holidays!
P1 – Maths Week
P1 have been exploring money this week.  We examined coins closely to find their value and then had a go at sorting different coins. We noticed they had different shapes, colours and sizes.  We enjoyed making rubbings of different coins using crayon.
* Home Challenge*
Can you recognise any coins or notes at home?
Can you try to pay for something at the shops using coins?
Can anyone make a shield by joining one of each coin together?
