P6 Update

We were glad to have a long holiday weekend after all our hard work practising for our Titanic play last week.  It went really well and we’re all really proud of ourselves.  Miss McLennan definitely was too!

This week in Primary 6 we have been very busy with our Health Week activities.

Here’s what we got up to…

  • Rhythmic gymnastics
  • Kurling
  • Relaxation – visualisation
  • Netball
  • Healthy diaries
  • Football training
  • Healthy pizzas
  • Playground games
  • Potted sports.

We have enjoyed the week and we’re ready for more hard work next week!

Craft for Enterprise After-school Club

After our successful sale at the end of last term, the club are pleased to announce they made £40.59 profit.

We have decided to use this money to buy new materials for our next sale.  Following a long discussion we agreed to spend most of our money on ‘Fimo’ and we are currently busy making new crafts each Monday.

Thank you again to all those who visited our stall, we hope you liked our crafts.

Fire Start visit P6

We had a visit from four firemen yesterday.  They reminded us all about the top fire hazards in the home and what to do in the event of a fire.  They told us mnemonic to help us remember the things we need to say when we call 999.  I wonder if anyone knows what the letters stand for?

LIONEL

The firemen had an emergency call while they were in our class and had to rush away!  We could see from the playground how quickly they needed to get ready and in the engine.

P6 meet their nursery buddies

We have been getting to know our nursery buddies over the past few weeks.   Attached are some pictures of some of us with our afternoon buddies.  We have lots of super ideas of ways to help our buddies prepare for starting school in August and will update you on our progress with these soon!

What’s going on in Primary 6 this week?

Primary 6 have been very busy in our first week back at school.

We have been finishing our newspaper reports about the Titanic.  We realised that we were writing them on the 101st anniversary of the Titanic sinking.  We are going to make them look old by using coffee and tea to stain the paper.

In maths some people were learning about improper and mixed fractions.  We like it because we do lots of different activites to help us learn.

We had an eco challenge to find out which are the tastiest apples and pears and which ones grow in Scotland.  We tasted a range of varieties and collected data about our classes favourites.  We presented our data on a graph using apple and pear designs.

P6 and P7  went down to Uphall Station Park to give it a spring clean from litter.  We think we did a great job!

Have a nice weekend!

Primary 6

This week P6 have been practising a play for our assembly about the Titanic.  We know our parts now!  We also finished our homework task to make our own model of the Titanic.

We had a rehearsal for our Easter assembly for next week. Today we have been designing Easter eggs to decorate the hall.  Miss McLennan thinks they are fantastic!

We have also been playing maths champion to try to beat the p7s in a challenge next week.

World Maths Day and trip to Broxburn Academy

This week P6 went to Broxburn Academy to a Science and Technology Day. We all loved the ooze experiment best. It was really fun to play with because it was all slimy.  There were loads of activities like fizz pop rocket, learning about the heart and animal cells and plant cells.

We all were being responsible citizens because we ran the World Maths Day for the school.  We were each a representative for a class and helping them to log on and play games on the site.  You could play against other children across the world!

In maths some groups are learning division and others 2D and 3D shapes along with volume.

For art we have almost finished our massive Titanic.  We also are starting to draw our own Titanic on A6 paper. For homework we have to make 3D replicas of Titanic.  Some people have made them and brought them in already.  They all look super!

We know how to keep safe with electricity!

On Wednesday James from Scottish Power came to our school to talk to each class about electricity.  He told us all about electric cables and how we can stay safe with switches, plugs and power boxes.

Here are some facts we remembered:

  • Plugs have 230 volts in them.
  • We should switch off switches to help us keep safe.
  • Trains take 1 mile to stop.
  • There were 3 cables the orange one was for the garden, the black one is for your TV and the white one is for the kitchen.
  • Insulators are materials like rubber that electricity can’t travel through.
  • It can travel through conductors.
  • Power boxes are extremely dangerous and we shouldn’t go near them.

We got to hold 2 different big electricity cables. James had a black crow with a yellow nose called Sparky to help teach the little classes about being safe.
