Primary 2 Digital Learning Week

This week as part of our digital learning, primary 2 took part in Scottish Book Trust’s “Author’s live.” The Author, Emily Mackenzie read her story, “There’s broccoli in my ice-cream” to us on a live feed from Edinburgh, then showed us, step by step how to draw a character from her book. It was great fun!

We also had a chance this week to experience using the green screen app. We listened to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, made masks of the characters and then had the opportunity to recreate scenes from the story with a green screen background.

P2S Trip Dynamic Earth

Primary 2S had lots of fun today on our trip to Dynamic Earth. Mrs Strachan was very proud of us for our excellent behaviour, manners and interest in all the activities . Well done boys and girls!

P2S Make Medicine!

Primary 2S have been busy making herbal medicine.  We went into the garden to collect ingredients then made up our medicines in class. We used our knowledge of natural ingredients to make something that would help Molly recover from the flu.

STEM in Primary 2S

As part of our STEM focus, Primary 2S have been learning all about different illnesses and medicines this week, how to stay safe around medicines and what makes us feel better when we are ill.

Molly, the P3 class puppet is visiting us and she is poorly. We worked together to diagnose Molly, checking her symptoms against different illnesses and have worked out that she has flu!

Sarah Jane visited the class yesterday to tell us all about natural medicines that can be found in plants and the different ways they can help us feel better when we are poorly. We learned about the benefits of willow tree, ginger, garlic, aloe vera and sage. Thank you Sarah Jane!  Next week, we are going to go into the school garden to find natural ingredients that will help Molly recover.

Primary 2S takes the mail!

Primary 2S had a very responsible job today! They had to go to the Scotmid  post office to send the school’s pen pal letters to Magale school in Uganda. We hope to hear back from Magale school soon.

As we have been learning about food that is good for us in class, we decided to buy a healthy apple when we were there. We  had this for an afternoon snack after our busy writing lesson.

Primary 2S

Primary 2S have been learning this week about things that are important to live a healthy life.

Kenzie: We should exercise.  I go to football club.

Logan:  I bring water to school every day.  We should drink lots of water.

Hannah:  It’s  important to get enough sleep so we have energy.

Christopher: Eating lots of healthy food is good for us.  I like bananas and apples.

Floraidh:  It’s okay to eat some chocolate and sweets, just not all the time.  I bring strawberries in a wee tub for my snack.

We made our own healthy food book and next week we will be preparing our own healthy food in class!

P2S Internet Safety

Primary 2S have been learning about how to stay safe on the internet. We listened to the story of Smartie the Penguin. Throughout the story we helped Smartie make the right decisions when he is on the internet. We learned that it is important to ask a grown up we trust for help when we are using the internet.

This week Primary 2S and Primary 2C have began rehearsing for their class assembly. The assembly takes place next Friday, 15th February at 9.15 am. We look forward to seeing you!

P2S Book Week

This week Primary 2S received their Read, Write, Count bags to take home. Each bag contained 2 books, snakes and ladders and finger puppets!

In class, we read one of our Read, Write, Count books,  A Tale of Two Beasts by Fiona Roberton.  In the story there are lots of things that the beast isn’t happy about – we shared our ideas then wrote about a day out that the beast would love and one that he would hate!

Primary 2S – Book Study

As part of our book study, Primary 2S are enjoying reading The Twits by Roald Dahl.  Mr and Mrs Twit hate everything — except playing mean pranks on each other!  This week we have written about our own prank that we would like to play on Mr or Mrs Twit and made our own worm spaghetti, just like Mrs Twit gave to her husband for his dinner. No worms were harmed in our worm spaghetti though – we used clay!
