Primary 1 have been busy this week learning a Scots poem for homework. Today, everyone got a chance to recite their poem in front of the rest of the class. Some children chose Mince and Tatties as their poem and others chose Robin Reidbreist. We all met our success criteria which  was to speak in a clear voice and make eye contact with our audience.

In class, we have been reading Katie Morag and the Tiresome Ted. In the story, Katie Morag throws away her teddy when she is angry. We made a poster to help find the lost teddy. We also wrote a description of Katie Morag. Here is Peyton’s description of Katie Morag:

Katie Morag has red hair. It is long and she has rosey cheeks and a jumper that is blue and white. She wears a kilt and a pair of welly boots. She is kind.

Happy New Year from Primary 1!

We are looking forward to learning lots in 2017. We have been finding out what New Year was like in different countries around the world and learned about what New Year’s Resolutions are. Some people in our class wanted to make one!

James: I want to get better at swimming.

Isla: I am going to start tidying my room.

Jack: I am going to help my Mum do the dishes.

As part of our anti-bullying focus in school this week, Primary 1 have been learning about what bullying is and how we can get help if we are affected by it.  We made a poster to show ways to stop bullying.

Sophie-Rose: I would tell them to stop and if that doesn’t work, I would tell an adult.

Kian: I would tell the teacher and my Mum and Dad.

Jack: We found out about things that need electricity and how to keep safe. Never put your fingers near the socket.

Caitlin: I’ve been counting forwards and backwards and adding groups to see how much I have altogether.

James: Zoolab came and I saw a turtle and snake. I touched the snake.

Sorley: We have made a hospital in the class. I am a Doctor and Kyle was the patient.

Primary 1 have been learning how to tell the time. We can now tell o’clock times on a digital and analogue clock. We played different games to help us with our learning, like the minute game and “What’s the time, Mr Wolf?”

In Science, after learning about the Sun, we wrote some interesting facts about it and drew a picture of the Sun after looking at pictures of the Sun in space.

We have been learning how to stay safe around fireworks and drew firework pictures using pastels.
