Digital Directors Internet Safety Assembly

Our Digital Directors, led by Mrs McJimpsey, gave us a fabulous assembly on Friday.  There were lots of important messages about how to stay safe online.  All pupils had spent the week learning about internet safety.  This week, the Digital Directors have set a special home learning task:

Create a way to share the important messages of staying safe online.  This can be in the form of:

-a poster made on paper

-a digital poster

-a video

If taking part, these should be handed in/emailed to wlpuscps@westlothian.org.uk  by Friday 15th February.

We look forward to seeing these.

P5 Lendrick Muir Reminders

Dear P5 Parents/Carers,

We are getting very excited for camp next week!  Please find some reminders below:

  • If your child requires medication they must complete a permission to administer medication form prior to leaving on the Wednesday morning.
  • Medication for camp should be handed into Mrs Cougan at the office at 8.15am on the morning of camp.
  • Code of Conduct: It is very important that families read through this agreement and sign it with their child
  • On Wednesday 20th February children are required to be at school for 8:15am, the bus will leave at 8:30am. Children should be dropped off at the front office, and go into the gym hall to be registered and go to the toilet. Parents and family can wait outside to wave goodbye to their children as they go onto the bus – if they wish.
  • Children should wear comfortable, warm clothes ready for outdoor activities, school uniform is not required.
  • Children are not required to order or bring a lunch.
  • We will send a group call to let you know the children have arrived safely.
  • £6 pocket money will be provided to the children from the money you have already paid to the school  –  £2 each day. A purse or a wallet is useful for the children to keep their change in. Children should bring not take any extra money to camp, this keeps it fair for all the children.
  • Staff attending the residential are Mrs Cougan, Mrs Campbell and Mrs.Bonner.
  • Pupils are not permitted to take cameras, electronic devices or valuables with them. They can take a disposable camera if they wish. The staff will take photos with school cameras. Wi-Fi permitting we will try and post on the school blog while we are away. We may also post photos on Twitter as it is it easier and quicker to upload to this platform – you do not need to have a Twitter log on, if you go to Twitter and search @PUSCPS you will find us.
  • When packing, remember your child will have to carry their own bag to the accommodation. It is also recommended to go over what clothes you have packed for them so they know what to wear to different activities.
  • Please remember to pack gloves.
  • Please remember to pack lots of pairs as socks, as feet will inevitably get wet several times a day!
  • Children will be collected as usual at the end of the school day on Friday at 12:25pm. If we are delayed we will group call you. If you are not collecting your child please let the office know your alternative arrangements in advance. Parents/ carers should collect medication handed in for the residential from the school office.

Good luck with the packing!

Reading Passports

As part of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge and to celebrate Book Week Scotland, each pupil will be given their own reading passport to keep in school.

When a pupil reads a book, a page in the passport is filled out with the title, author, rating and a few sentences/pictures about the book.  This is a great way for pupils to keep a record of what they have read, challenge themselves and to foster a love of reading.  At the back of the passport, a chart can be stamped or signed when a book is completed.  When their chart is completed they will receive a special certificate to recognise their achievement.

If your child reads a book at home, please write (or have your child write) the title and author of the book in their diary and sign it – this can be transferred to their chart and they can complete the page at school.

This week, remember to send in photographs of pupils and/or families reading in unusual places and these will be displayed and celebrated in school and at our assembly on Friday.

Thank you for your continued support.  We look forward to hearing about all the books the children are reading.

Families Learning Together/Sharing the Learning

Dear parents/carers,
We are looking forward to welcoming you to our Families Learning Together/Sharing the Learning event this Thursday (22nd November).  If you have not filled out a return slip or need a replacement, please just let us know.
You are invited to visit your child’s class between 2.15-3.00 to find out what exciting things they have been learning about.  If you have more than one pupil with us at the school, please use the time 2.15-3.00 to visit each class.

We would also like to invite you to view your child’s work in our dining hall – we are offering two drop-in sessions for this – 1.30-2.15 and 3.15-4.00.  This is an excellent opportunity to chat with your child about their targets and next steps in learning.
We ask that at 3 pm, parents/carers pop in the gym hall to complete a very quick evaluation form and then leave via the main office door.   From there, parents/carers can walk around and collect pupils from the playground at 3.15 as normal.  This allows for the safe dismissal of all pupils.
Thank you for your continued support.  We look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

Remembrance Events 2018

On Thursday 8th November, our P7 vice captains Jack, Kamila and Andrew accompanied Mrs Cougan to St.Michael’s church in Linlithgow for a special WW1 commemoration service.  Lots of other schools, youth organisations, businesses and council members also attended.  Our vice captains did an excellent job representing our school.

On Sunday 11th November, Kamila (vice captain), Lauren (house captain) and Callum (house captain) accompanied Mrs Cougan at the remembrance parade and service in Broxburn.   Callum proudly wore his great grand dad’s war medals, which were quite the talking point on the day.  Again, our P7s were excellent.  A huge thank you to their parents for allowing them to be a part of this special day.

Children In Need 2018

A reminder that this Friday is Children In Need day.  We are still accepting unwanted books/toys/games for our bring and buy sale which will be held in the dining hall on Friday.  Pupils will be given dojo points for each item they donate.

Pupils can bring a small amount of money on this day if they wish to buy something at the sale – all items at the sale will be priced at £1.

This Friday is also a dress-down day.  Pupils can wear something spotty, yellow, CIN themed or casual for a small donation.

If you would like to donate some home-baking for our bring and buy sale, this would be greatly appreciated.  Please provide a full ingredient list if you would like to donate in this way.

Thank you for your support – we are looking forward to raising money for this very worthy cause.
