Hope you are all well and have had a good weekend.
Here is your learning board for this week along with some other files for Maths and Spelling.
There are also a number of Sumdog challenges to complete. These are titled: ‘Shape Challenge’, ‘Times Tables Challenge’ and ‘Reading and Punctuation Challenge’.
As part of our ‘Our Planet, Our Future’ topic, Primary 3 and been learning about the effects of litter and plastic pollution to the environment.
We have been researching how long it takes for materials to rot away after they are discarded and how our rubbish impacts on animals. Using the information found, we created posters and wrote an exposition to persuade people not to drop litter.

With have also linked our topic with our work on food chains, learning how animals depend on one another and discovering how plastic can enter and pass through the food chain. We worked in groups to create pictures of different marine food chains and presented them to the rest of the class.
Our next step is to learn more about recycling and how to cut down on our use of plastic to reduce plastic pollution.
As part of Internet Safety Week, Primary 3 have been learning how avatars can be used as a profile picture in place of a photograph to keep us safe and to also show our personalities. We created our own avatars and talked about how they represented us.
We also talked about what do if something makes us feel uncomfortable when we are online. We know that it’s important to always tell an adult we trust.
As part of our Scottish focus this term, P3 have been learning about tartan. We looked at how tartan is made and have been practising weaving our own tartan designs.
Within Literacy, we have been learning Scots vocabulary. Everyone did an excellent job of learning a Scots poem and reciting it in front of the class. Well done to Emma-Leigh and Jacob who did a super job when reciting a poem to the whole school at assembly!
We used our knowledge of Scots vocabulary to write new verses for the poem ‘Three Craws’ and then created our own rhyming Scots poems with the title ‘The Fower Doos’.
Primary 3 had a great time at their party with the primary 1s and 2s. We enjoyed playing party games, dancing and eating our party snacks. Â We were also excited when Santa arrived with a present for us.Â
As part of our topic work on Flat Stanley, P3 have been designing and creating kites for Stanley’s brother, Arthur. Arthur needed to find a new kite after using his brother, Stanley, as one and getting him tangled in a tree!
First, we drew plans of our designs with labels to show which materials we would use and then we followed these to make the kites in class. We then reflected upon our designs and predicted how well we thought they would fly.
We are hoping to test them next week when we have a dry, windy day.
On Friday 15th November, we are having a Children in Need fundraising morning.Â
To raise money we will be:
Dressing up or dressing down for a donation. Why not dress up in yellow or in spots like Pudsey?
Having a ’Guess the Baby Teacher’ competition. Pupils can try to correctly match the baby pictures to teacher’s name for the chance to win a prize. Each entry will cost 50p.
Holding a bake sale in the dining hall. We would be very grateful for any parent/carer baking donations. Please hand any donations into the office and list the ingredients used for those with allergies.
Primary 3 had a great afternoon with Maureen from the Museums’ Service, discovering more about Victorian life. They got to dress up as Victorian school children and held lots of Victorian artefacts, learning about their use in daily life long ago.
Dressed up in our pinafores and collars.A replica medal from Queen Victoria’s Jubilee.A Victorian iron. It was very heavy! An early camera.
During Maths Week, Primary 3 have enjoyed taking part in the Sumdog competition both at home and in school. The whole class received a certificate for being one of the top performing classes in the school! Well done to Jessica who also received a certificate for ranking in the list of the top 1,000 pupils out of 74,000 pupils who took part!
We have also been learning about the time, looking at both analogue and digital clocks. We have been using what we have learned to recognise the times of events in our day like break time and lunch time. Our next step is to compare the timings of our school day with the timings of a Victorian school day.
