Primary 3/2

On Wednesday, we found a very special visitor in our classroom!

Taffy the dragon had come to our room for a very special reason. His Fairyland home was being destroyed so the King’s Council could build an extension on to the palace. This meant that he and many other fairytale characters had nowhere to live! So, Taffy had the job of looking for somewhere new to move to – the location had to be safe and have nice neighbours who knew a lot about fairytales.

So, we brainstormed our ideas about fairytales and their characters. In Writing,  we are planning persuasive pieces to encourage the fairytale characters to move into P3/2.

Primary 3/2 – Jumpers

We have quite a few unclaimed jumpers collecting in our cloakroom and there are also a few children who are missing named jumpers. Could grown-ups please check  at home to ensure your child has the right jumpers?

Primary 3/2: Maths Week Scotland

This week, Primary 3/2 were doing some investigation work in maths!

We looked at how to partition the number 10 in different ways.

We did this by:

  • using drawing to make sets of 10 dots into smaller groups
  • used knowledge of our number bonds to make pairs
  • used cuisenaire rods to find out combinations of blocks that were equal to 10
  • used ten frames to split/combine different groups

We came up with lots of different ideas, from number bonds (5 +5, 6 +4) to slightly more complex combinations (4 + 4 + 2, 1 + 1 + 1+ 1+ 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1). Miss McLaughlin saw lots of great teamwork!

Congratulations to our class, who placed in the top 2000 classes for the West Lothian Sumdog Competition. Well done to Callum for earning his Sumdog award too!

Primary 3/2

This week, Primary 3/2 were looking at number words.

We know that number words can be tricky to spell, so we practised making them in different ways. We also used a class set of number mnemonics, which are little stories to help us remember how to spell each number word.

Grown-ups can help us by practising these words at home or testing us on our number mnemonics!

Primary 3/2

Primary 3/2 (and the adults!) have been working hard to create our class charter. We thought about our key words of ‘Ready’, ‘Respectful’ and ‘Safe’ and thought about how we could show this in both the classroom and playground.
