Primary 2

For ‘Pumphy Book Day’, we took part in activities linked to different stories.

So, what did we do?

Miss McLaughlin – We were looking at ‘This Book just ate my dog!’. We made our own greedy books and created our own titles (‘This book just ate…’).

Mrs Strachan – We were looking at ‘Aliens love Underpants’. We got to design our own aliens or our own pair of underpants!

Miss McLennan – We were looking at ‘Blown away’. We got to design and make our own kites!

Mrs Dugan – We were looking at ‘Supertato’. We got to make our own ‘Super’ vegetables!

We also got to dress up as our favourite book characters!

What did we do at home?

Some of us took part in the ‘Families reading together’ sessions. We got to make bookmarks, models and masks. Some of us tried to make our own books at home, with nice and nasty characters. We also made use of our ‘Book Bug’ and ‘Read, Write, Count’ bags. We’ve been doing lots of extra reading at home too!

Good morning (or almost afternoon) little ones!

Hope you are enjoying our second snow day! Just a little reminder that there are snow day activities to keep you busy on yesterday’s post! If you also haven’t yet tried the Sumdog Snow Day competitions, give them a go too!

Remember, if you get up to anything interesting in the snow or that is related to World Book Day, you can always post it on our school Twitter page (@puscps).

Also – Happy Birthday Anastasia 🙂 (for yesterday)!

Take care everyone!

Primary 2

Good morning little ones and parents too!

I have re-attached our Winter Ready activities to save you scrolling back to previous posts. If you are looking for things to do today, try some of them! Bring anything you have done with you to school :).

I’m really disappointed that I couldn’t get to see your fantastic World Book Week costumes, so if you feel like taking pictures or posting photos on our school pages, I would love to see them!

  • Try reading something new today – it could be a new story, information book, leaflet or newspaper!
  • We have been reading ‘Matilda’ in class and learning about different types of characters. Miss Honey is a ‘nice’ character and Miss Trunchbull is very definitely a ‘nasty’ character. Try creating your own ‘nice’ and ‘nasty’ characters at home – think about them, draw pictures or make puppets!
  • You now have your Sumdog passwords in the front cover of your homework diary. We have been learning to log in on our own, so if you can, try again! Miss McLennan has set up a school contest.  Look on the left hand side of the page (when logged in) for a button that says ‘Snow Day’. Click it and click ‘Snow Day competition’. You can only take part in the competition once you have completed the assessment at the top of the log in screen! Play that to unlock your first pet and new games :)!

Enjoy your day 🙂 hope to see you soon!

Primary 2 Safer Internet Week

Learning intention – To learn more about how to be safe on the internet.

Description of learning activities – We talked about what we would do if we felt unsafe or uncomfortable online. We watched a clip from the Safer Internet website about what to do if we felt stressed or worried about using technology. We learned how to log in on school netbooks with a password and how to open and close apps. We learned what some of the apps on the netbooks were and began using the keyboard to type our names.

Assessment – I can begin to use school technologies safely and appropriately.

I understand why it is important to behave responsibly online.

I can talk about how to stay safe online.

Learning at home – We could go home and practise using apps, opening and closing them. We need to be careful at home in case we feel uncomfortable online and know to tell a grown-up if we are worried. We will be careful about which apps we will use at home and close any videos that are inappropriate. We know not to add or follow anyone we don’t know and not to give details out.

Primary 2

What were we learning?

To learn and perform a Scots’ poem.

What did we do?

For Scots’ week, Primary 2 had to learn one of two poems (‘Dentist’ by JK Annand or ‘Mrs Yule’ by Ally Christie). Miss McLaughlin gave us our poems for homework and we practised them with our grown-ups (thank you for taking the time).

What were our steps to success?

  • We had to look at our audience, or straight ahead.
  • We had to use a clear voice and make sure we had good volume.
  • We also had to make sure we used a good speed.
  • We had to try to use expression when performing.
  • We had to be a quality audience too!

Well done to our poetry performers who wowed us at today’s Scots’ assembly. We are very proud of you!

Craft Club Christmas Post

Friday Parent Craft Club!

We have been having lots of fun trying out some festive crafts and have learned that some things are easier than others.

Here are a few things that we have been working on for the Christmas Fayre on Friday. All the funds that we raise will go back into the school and our club to buy materials.

Primary 2 Read, Write, Count

This week, Primary 2 received their Read, Write, Count bags!

We were very lucky to have Primary 6 come down to our classroom and explore our bags with us. We had two fantastic story books, some finger puppets, a notebook and a game of Snakes and Ladders!

Yesterday, some grown-ups came in to see our bags and try some of the suggested activities. Many thanks to those who came!

We hope you enjoy using your Read, Write, Count bags at home!

Primary 2

This week, Primary 2 developed their ‘grand designs’!

We were given the task of designing a suitable hibernation home for Harry the Hedgehog. It had to be strong, warm, comfortable and dark. We had been learning about natural and man-made materials too, so we decided to make the homes from natural materials. We sketched out plans and decided in groups which plans (or parts of plans) we liked best.

Here are some of our ideas:

On Thursday, we will be gathering materials and putting our plans into action!

Check in with us to see what else we have been learning this week!

Until then…

This week, Primary 2 got arty!

We had been learning about different natural textures and the words we would use to describe them. We thought about how we could use this to create a piece of artwork and decided to create a group ‘texture picture’.

We created crayon rubbings of natural materials like bark, pine needles, pine cones and coconut shells. We then cut them into shapes and brought them together to made a woodland picture.

Can you guess which animal we made?

Check in with us next week to see what we are learning!

Until then…
