Primary 3

What were we learning?

To take on a role in a business enterprise task.

How would we know if we were successful?

  • We would be able to create ‘business teams’.
  • We would be able to identify key questions to ask for market research.
  • We would be able to carry out a survey.
  • We would be able to interpret the data and act upon the results.

What did we do?

  • We have been given a challenge to create a brand new app for children to use!
  • We were put into groups and created business characters, uniforms and team names.
  • We brainstormed key questions for our surveys and discussed which information we would need to help us.
  • We asked P2S to be our audience and conducted our market research.
  • We recorded data using tally marks and used a block graph to display some of the results.

Our next step is to explore business roles further and see why they are all important when creating a new product. We will also use the results of our market research as criteria for designing our apps!

Until next time…

Primary 3 – Read, Write, Count

This week, Primary 3 were gifted their ‘Read, Write, Count’ bags.

These are fantastic, free resources which have lots of different activities to support reading, writing and counting. On Thursday afternoon, Primary 3 were let loose with their bags and explored the different items inside:

  • Notebook and writing pencil
  • Collins ‘Picture Atlas’
  • ‘There is no Dragon in this Story’ by Lou Carter
  • Story cubes
  • ‘Ocean Commotion’ money cards

Many thanks to the parents/family members who also came along 🙂 We would love to hear how you are planning to use the ‘Read, Write, Count’ bags at home!

Primary 3

What were we learning?

To recognise and use alliteration.

How would we know if we were successful?

  • We would be able to explain what ‘alliteration’ is.
  • We would be able to identify examples of alliteration from our class novel.
  • We could create our own examples of alliteration.

What did we do?

  • We looked at examples of famous names (Minnie Mouse) and tongue twisters (Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers). We noticed that most parts of these started with the same letter (alliteration).
  • We listened carefully for examples in our class novel and were able to talk about these.
  • We created our own Viking names using alliteration.

Another reminder that the Primary 3 assembly is on Friday 9th November at 9.15am. We look forward to seeing you there!

Until next time…

Primary 3 Fractions Challenge

Miss McLaughlin has set Primary 3 a Sumdog Fractions challenge for homework this week. It will begin at 9.00am tomorrow and end at 12.25pm Friday afternoon.

Log into your account as normal and look on the left hand side for a button that says ‘Fractions Challenge’ (it should be light blue).  This will automatically set your questions to be fraction-themed.

If you cannot get on at home, don’t worry! There will be time in class for children to access the challenge too. Completing the challenge earns you a total of 300 coins! Good luck :)!

Primary 3 Assembly

Just a wee reminder that the Primary 3 Assembly will take place on Friday 9th November at 9.15am. Children will need to make sure they are wearing a plain white t-shirt or school top on the day.

We look forward to seeing you there and sharing our learning with you!

Primary 3 Number Homework

Miss McLaughlin has set each Number group their very own Sumdog  challenge. This will consolidate the concepts we will be learning in Number work over the next two weeks. The challenge will be live from 9.00 tomorrow morning and end at 12.30 on Friday 12th October.

Children should try to access their challenge at home by logging in and clicking on the ‘Challenge’ button at the left-hand side of the screen. This will automatically change the focus of the games to the concepts we are practising.

Please don’t worry if you cannot access Sumdog from home – there will also be time given in class to play.

Complete the challenge and earn 400 coins!

Good luck!

Primary 3

What were we learning?

To build up the story of a group of people from the past.

How would we know if we were successful?

  • We would be able to talk about a group of people from the past (the Victorians).
  • We would be able to compare our lives today with life in the past.

What did we do?

  • We have been following the life of a Victorian child named William Moss through his diary entries.
  • We are learning about different aspects of Victorian life that he mentions in his entries (home life, working life, toys, his Queen).
  • We explored different library books linked to the Victorians to find out more information.
  • We built a class display to follow William’s life and made our own characters that ‘time-travelled’ back to be with him!
Our class display
Making clothes-peg dolls to play with

We will soon be learning to write diary entries like William’s, but for our own characters!

Until next time…

Primary 3 – Maths Week Scotland

What were we learning?

To tell the time using ‘quarter to’ and ‘quarter past’.

How would we know if we were successful?

  • We would be able to show times on both analogue and digital clocks.
  • We would link ‘quarter past’ to ’15 minutes past’.
  • We would link ‘quarter to’ to ’45 minutes past’.

What did we do?

  • We used clock fractions to see that a quarter of an hour was 15 minutes long and that three quarters of an hour was 45 minutes long.
  • We used class clocks to show where the minute and hour hands should be placed.
  • We wrote times using ‘minutes past’.
  • We did a matching challenge with mixed times to see if we could recognise ‘quarter past’ and ‘quarter to’ times.
  • We completed challenges on Sumdog.

Miss McLaughlin will soon send home a record of what we have been learning. We can use this to work at home on something that we find tricky or as a checklist to show if we demonstrate our learning at home.

We are also beginning to use our knowledge of time and number to build up a timeline of important Victorian dates.

Until next time…

Primary 3

Primary 3 have been working hard to build their Class Community Contract!

We have been focusing on three key words to help us – Ready, Respectful and Safe. We (ourselves, Miss M and Mrs Ross) discussed what each word meant, brainstormed and drew pictures of what they would look like in school.

We also thought about which rights would link to each key word. Take a look at our superhero-themed contract below!

Check in with us next time to see what we have been learning!

Until then…

Primary 2 Open Afternoon

Just a little reminder that the Primary 2 open afternoon will take place tomorrow at 2.00.

We will be in the dinner hall, so if parents could arrive at the front entrance just before 2.00, then we will meet you there.

We look forward to seeing you!
