Thank you to everyone who collected and donated Sainsbury’s  Active Kids vouchers. These have now been counted up and sent off with an order for some cooking and food preparation equipment and a big bag to keep the Kitchen Kit in.  This will be in use a lot next year in the classes across the school as we learn how to peel, chop, grate, mix, make – and taste- lots of different types of food. Yummy!
Primary 3 trip to Kirk of Calder
Primary 3 were out and about in Mid Calder today, learning about the local Church, inside and out! Rev Povey gave us a very interesting tour of the Kirk of Calder, showing us around this holy building.
We started on the outside, looking at the bell tower, doors and windows, then we explored the church yard and had a look at some of the gravestones.
Then we went inside and looked for the things on our checklist, like pews, the pulpit, the font and the communion table. We were able to ask Rev Povey lots of questions, and we were allowed to explore the balcony so we had a great view of the stained glass windows and the organ.
Mrs Hull asked everyone to write down the most important thing they had seen. Here are some of the answers:
“The pews, they are there so people can pray to God”.
“The graves, because we need a place to remember families who died.”
“The font, because if a baby comes the minister puts water on his head to become a Christian.”
“The pipes of the organ for all the children to sing songs.”
“The communion table, because the minister stands in front of it and speaks to the people.”
“The Bible because it tells all the stories of Jesus.”
“The cross to remember Jesus.”
Thank you very much to Rev Povey for all his help and for letting us see the church today. You can see Primary 3 learned a lot from their visit.

Chef Mellor cooking in Primary 3
Chef visit to Primary 1 and 1/2
Primary 1/2
We have been learning about chicks this week. We were drawing chicks today; we drew yellow dots and then we put on legs, eyes, beak and made every chick a little bit different. Â In our groups we made big pictures to show what we know about the life cycle of a chicken, and what they need to grow big and strong.
We were learning about caring people as part of Rights Respecting schools. We know children have the right to live with their parents or someone who cares for them.
Saturday/samedi
Lyon, 0830
This morning we will pack our case and get ready to come home to Scotland. It has been an amazing week and we had lots of fun. We are sad to be leaving Lyon and all our new friends (many are saying goodbye to Jacques as well as Mrs Hull) but we are happy that we have had such good time, and excited to share our new games and ideas with everyone back at Pumpherston and Uphall Station Community Primary.
Scotland, here we come!
