This term we have been learning about slavery in Scotland. We have worked in lots of different ways. Our Celebration of Learning is to create documentaries about slavery. Here are a few sneak peaks at what will be included in our documentaries…
Transportation of Slaves
Slaves were transported from Africa on ships. Many slaves travelled to the Caribbean where they worked on plantations. Fewer slaves travelled to Scotland, where they lived with their owners. Here are a few illustrations of slave ships. We used pencil to draw a slave ship and then used one colour of pastel for effect.
Life as a Slave in Scotland
We have taken part in lots of drama activities in order to learn more about the life of a slave. Here is a video that shows the way that a family would treat the slave that they ‘owned’. We have also included a conscience alley at the end.
