As part of our Safer Internet Day focus, we have been discussing the importance of consent and caution when posting photographs and videos online.
We came up with our 10 top tips to help you stay safe online.
- Keep social media accounts private.
- Remember that you can change accounts to private at any time.
- Ask permission before sharing photographs/videos of anyone.
- Don’t share inappropriate photographs/videos – remember that you are responsible for anything you choose to share online, even if you didn’t create it.
- Don’t share personal information online.
- You can cover your face with an emoji or blur it out if you don’t want it to be shown in a photograph you share.
- Be careful who follows you online – make sure you know who someone is before you accept a follow/friend request.
- Remember that you can block anyone who you think is a stranger or who behaves in a way that you do not like.
- You may wish to have a public account that has no personal information and a private account that you use to share with friends.
- Delete anything that you no longer want online – this list might help you work out what is wise to keep online and what is not!
