Back in time with Primary 5C!

As part of Mid Calder Primary School’s 40th Birthday celebrations, we decided to look back across the last 4 decades at the news and culture of the 70s, 80s, 90s and Noughties.

As a homework task, P5 were asked to research a particular decade and share what we had found with the rest of the class. It was surprising how many things from 40 years ago are still with us, like Queen Elizabeth, Star Wars and James Bond movies!

We had lots of fun researching the fashions, movies and music of each decade and all our parents (and teacher!) were able to help us out with their memories of years gone by.

We thoroughly enjoyed sharing our learning with our parents and carers at assembly – we especially enjoyed dressing up in the fashions of the day!

P4’s Amazing Dinosaur Assembly!

Primary 4 enjoyed presenting their Dinosaur Assembly today and had lots of fun sharing their learning from last term!

The boys and girls enjoyed:

  • Learning scripts and adding their own special touch to them!
  • Taking on different roles like dinosaurs and explorers.
  • Sharing facts with the audience.
  • Showing the audience how to sort dinosaurs into carnivores, herbivores and omnivores using a Venn diagram.
  • Talking about the different stages of the fossilization process.
  • Sharing their stories about ‘A dinosaur in my classroom!’.
  • Managing ICT equipment by becoming Technical Troopers.

Well done Primary 4 for bringing dinosaurs back to life!

P1P Class Charter

During the first two weeks, Primary 1 have been looking at the story of the Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. This story is all about being kind and friendly to others through sharing. We thought this linked well to our own classroom expectations and some of our School Values.

Through various activities we have explored the Rainbow Fish further and have also shared our thoughts and ideas on our school’s values. We used these brilliant ideas to create a Rainbow Fish themed Class Charter that also linked to the UN Rights of the Child.

Each bubble contains something that we think is important for us in and around the classroom and each shell contains one of our school values. We have all signed a scale on the Rainbow Fish to remind ourselves that we have agreed to our Class Charter and will use this throughout Primary 1. Brilliant work Primary 1!

Term 4 Celebration Assembly

Today we had our final Celebration Assembly. The Technical Troopers past and present were recognised for their contributions across our whole school community, from supporting teachers to setting up for CEMs, presenting to WL Head Teachers and staff to organising our Digital Award Accrediation. They have worked very hard to embed digital learning across our school and nursery.

We awarded Remarkable, STEM Superstars and Top Scorers for the term. Congratulations to everyone who received an award.

Congratulations to Cunigar for winning the house cup this term.

The Lion King Junior

What a week for Primary 4 and Primary 5! On Tuesday evening, Wednesday afternoon and Thursday night, the children put on the show of a lifetime for their parents, carers, friends, family members and invited guests, and each time the audience was blown away by their talent. They showed true determination, dedication and enthusiasm throughout the 8 weeks of rehearsals and pulled everything together for three incredible shows to demonstrate their amazing skills. A huge well done to all of the cast and backstage crew for putting on a phenomenal production.

A big thank you to Linda Matthews who took photographs of our Tuesday night performance, and to Eddie Anderson who filmed our Thursday evening show. You can see the photographs that Eddie took here: https://en-gb.facebook.com/westlothiancouncil/

A DVD copy of the show will be given to each family before the end of term.
