Digital Dress Down Day

Yesterday, the Technical Troopers organised a Digital Dress Down Day to raise funds to further support digital learning in Mid Calder Primary School. Our pupils were challenged to dress up as a character from an online or digital game, an emoji or a piece of technology.

Thank you to everyone who took part and donated. We raised a fantastic £175.05 and we can’t wait to share what we spend it on with everyone.

Scolastic Book Fair Total – We Did It!

Congratulations Mid Calder Primary School we raised a great big commission for the school and broke our target. Last year we sold over £800 of books and got back £488 in books. This year we sold in excess of £1100 and will get more than £600 to buy lovely new books. It’s a win-win – rewards for working hard in school on Parents’ Evening and payback to the school. A HUGE thank you for supporting the school!

Maybe next time the pupils can take more control of this enterprising event. Thanks to all who helped. Orders taken on the night should now be in at the beginning of next week and NOT today.

Mini Mid Calder Main Street in P3

As part of our Mid Calder IDL context, Primary 3 have been learning all about the different businesses in Mid Calder. We began by using Google Maps to explore the Main Street and discuss the different goods and services available. We were then challenged to choose one of the businesses as our inspiration for creating our own Mid Calder shop. As part of our research, we created and carried out questionnaires with our chosen business, including questions about prices of goods and services, opening times, busiest days and most popular item. All of this information helped us when setting up our own companies.

Next, we had to give our shop a name and design a logo. We looked at well know companies to help us to create a simple yet eye catching design and a memorable name. We then had to consider which goods/services we would provide in our shop, focusing on one product or service in particular. We used Microsoft Word to create a price list and an advertising poster, using persuasive language to convince our customers to visit our shop.

Finally, we were ready for business and opened our doors to our parents/carers during our open afternoon. We  sold our goods and services, calculating total costs and working out how much change to give back to our customers.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our businesses. We raised a grand total of £50.74 which we were very proud of.

Thank you to all the pupils, parents and staff who attended the discos.

Nathan’s Grannie Lends a Brown Owl Hand!

Twit-twhoooooooo Christmas card pow-wow!
Nathan’s Gran, a former Brown Owl, dusted off her feathers and came into P4 to help the class prepare hand-crafted Christmas cards to fund raise on Parents Afternoon and Evening. The children had already made small paintings in the style of Alice Druitt at Gingerpaws card designs as an Art lesson and these were carefully double and triple-mounted to make roll cards with special inserts and made-by stickers.
The children all got to die-cut precise circles from their artworks to mount onto their cards. They hope that you will pay £2.00 for a unique card that will fit a standard 6 by 6 envelope. Have a look when you visit for your appointment on Wednesday and see what creative crafters we have at Mid Calder. More classes to create special one-off  cards for sale soon.
Other children will be able to make Christmas cards from P3-7 in the Wednesday Get Crafty After School Club 3.15-4 p.m. Sign up soon as there is only 12 places.
Any crafty parent helpers will be most welcome.

Many thanks in advance,

Miss Brolls
