With thanks to the Beecraigs forest rangers the blue group, along with Miss Heenan and Mrs Ola have been trialing a forest school block We are hoping all groups will have a turn in the future. Please have a look at the video below filmed by the children using the GoPro camera to view a snapshot of all the fun and learning from one of the adventures to the forest…
Miss Kelly and the children have been working on making this little video to introduce the characters from Our Creative Journey We love how the children have brought the characters to life and have given them a voice using the ChatterPix Kids appon our iPads. This app is a free download.
Look out for these characters popping up all over nursery and on our Learning Stories on Sway as we begin to discover what it means to the children to be
In November we introduced a new free literacy iPad app called ‘ Our Story (See link below). We have been using the app nursery to create digital books, focusing on key vocabulary from our Learning Story topics.
We had hoped we would be able to share these with you at home by sharing links to the stories but unfortunately the links have had error messages. We have contacted the app developers and made suggestions for what we think would make sharing of the app more successful.
Has anyone given the app a try at home? We would love to hear what you thought of it and find out what you made your digital stories all about. Please leave some feedback or questions in the comments box below if you have any, or alternatively you can email Miss Wilkinson eva.wilkinson@westlothian.org.uk
*The record-able whiteboard part of the video was created on an app called Doodlecast Pro (works on devices below iOS 11 update).
Thank you to all our enthusiastic Grandparents who came along yesterday and got stuck right in to all the activities and joined in at song time! Great fun was had by all!
We are really pleased to hear how many grandparents follow our learning and keep up to date with nursery news by visiting our Blog and follow our Twitter page.
Please have a look at our videos to find out what we got up to yesterday…………
Thank you Miss Arkless at Boghall Primary for sending us a video of the chicks that hatched in nursery. They are getting so big! Here they are in her garden enjoying the sun yesterday. Jess the Collie is very good at looking after them!
In an earlier post we mentioned children’s learning is recorded and extended through Learning Stories.
Learning Stories are a consultative model of planning, led by the children.
Learning Stories at BEYC are very much influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach; making learning visible and highly valuing the child’s voice and contributions from home.
Our Learning Stories are collated onto Sway (Microsoft Office Sway is an online interactive presentation programme) which is great for revisiting Learning Stories, both in nursery and at home.
Please have a look at the key points about BEYC’s Learning Stories below.
This short video is also very helpful for understanding this approach to documenting learning and planning.
