Mindfulness Sessions

To encourage the children to connect with their own thoughts and regulate their feelings Mrs Hendry has been inviting small groups of children to take part in a Mindfulness session. While engaging with all of their senses with the use of scented candles, flowers, sensory light equipment  the children were transported on a magical flying carpet, it was amazing to hear where their imagination took them…

‘We imagined we were on magic carpet. It was comfy on the ground. It was really dark the moon and the stars were there, the carpet was flying it was like magic’

‘We were on a magic carpet, we used our imagination, it was good’

‘Went on a flying carpet but it wasn’t real it was pretend, it was fun’

‘We were using our imagination, It was making me calm. I was going to my place’

‘We went on a carpet and Mrs Hendry turned the light off and took our shoes off’

‘We were imagining stuff, we were on a carpet and it could fly. The lights were switched off but we seen the stars and the moon’.

‘I went up there, in the sky’.

‘Flying a magic carpet, the lights were off. Using imagination’

‘I went on a magic carpet, we were flying, it was just fun and that’s the end.’

‘I saw the starts and the moon and we lied down. The moon was changing colours’

‘It was sparkly ad dark, there was a sparkly crown, there was a carpet. Fun.’

Afternoon at the fire pit.

This afternoon we got the fire pit out and together begun to make the fire.
The children helped shred the wood , put twigs and sticks  into the fire pit  and made  a spark with the flint.
Throughout the  fire pit activity ,children developed their awareness of fire safety rules.
Please see the children  comments :
”If  you touch the fire you will get burn ”
”Yes and this is very sore”
” We not allow to go over the yellow line ”
” Only  an  adult can set the fire up ”

” Water puts fire out ”

And then  children’s curiosity ……………
Why is the smoke white”

‘Why dose the fire dance ” ” Looks like  orange
” Why dose smoke smell like that
” Can we cook in the fire ”
‘ Yeah Marshmallows”
”Burned toast”
”Chocolate ”

Engaging our listening and attention skills

Mrs McGonigal a teacher from Murryfield language centre visited our nursery. She brought lots of exciting props and hid them in bags, boxes and buckets. We played games to develop our attention and listening skills. Our group ladies said we demonstrated fantastic listening skills !!
