Apple Harvest

Around the back of nursery we have an orchard.  The apples on the apple trees are the first of our fruit and vegetables to be ready to harvest.  Harvest means to gather crops when they are ripe and ready to pick.  We have gathered lots of apples and have been slicing, peeling, chopping and tasting them at our chopping table, playing imaginatively with them in our house corner and ‘baking’ and weighing them at the mud kitchen.

The wrapaound boys and girls made yummy apple crumbles  and we are going to try making and tasting apple juice in nursery this week by squashing and squeezing them all up in the juicer.

What else could we make with the apples?  Do you have any ideas?

Please write your suggestions on a post it note beside the learning stories in the foyer or email them to Miss Wilkinson  eva.wilkinson@westlothian.org.uk

Summer Garden Fete Fun.

Yesterday we had our Summer Garden Fete.  It was a lovely sunny day and lots of families came to have fun, win prizes  and eat some yummy home baking.  At the end the boys and girls sang the nursery Eco Song.  Over £500 was raised for school funds!   Thank you to everyone who came along and supported this event.

Please have a look at the photos and videos below you – might recognise some familiar characters!

Eco Posters.

Have you spotted these poster on the cycle path?  Do you recognise them?

Thank you to  Education and Engagement Officer, Jim McGladrigan from WLC Cleaner Communities Enforcement Team for working alongside us to help make a positive difference in our local community.

Garden Fetes.

Please remember we are having our garden fetes on Thursday 22nd June at 10-11am and 2-3pm.

We are all very busy getting organised for the fetes. We are still looking for kind donations for the raffle and for the home baking and plant stalls. Also please speak to Mrs Todd if you can help out on the day.

BEYC Are On An Eco Mission

Last week we shared a video recorded by West Lothian Concil’ media, of some of the girls and boys who went on an Eco Mission along the cycle path to try and encourage people in the local community to put their litter in the bin. In partnership with West Lothian Council’ Environmetal Team we designed and displayed posters encouraging everyone to be Eco Friendly like us!

This is another video of the children’s experience, captured on the GoPro worn by one of the children.
