P6B Learning highlights

Good afternoon to all of our P6 families!

This week in P6B we have been working hard to be ready, respectful and safe and follow our class charter.

The right of the week: This week we were learning about article 1 and article 42. The children have been learning that everyone under the age of 18 have all of the rights in the convention and we need to work together to ensure our rights are respected.

Reading: We have started our class novel ‘Wonder’ and the children are enjoying reading together and following the story. They created posters on kindness and learned about different precepts they can use to help them make the right decisions. ‘Never judge a book by its cover’ and ‘Treat others as you wish to be treated’ were some examples they thought of.

The children have also enjoyed ERIC time (everyone reading in class) and exploring the books on GetEpic. This week our reading champion was Monique who read the most books online.

Numeracy: We have been learning about place value and successfully adding and subtracting using a range of different strategies. They also had a lot of fun playing Prodigy maths and now have their logins to play at home too. Our wizard of the week was Connor, well done!

Writing: The children enjoyed free writing Friday and we had a great range of different writing styles throughout the class. They enjoyed the freedom of choice and created their own comics, acrostic poems,  creative stories and writing facts.

Art: The children created excellent colour wheel umbrellas and learned about hot and cold colours.

Hot Chocolate Award: Congratulations to Caiden for going ”over and above” throughout the week!

Have a great weekend,

Weekly Update Primary 6a

An excellent week of learning in Primary 6!

Lead learners: Jais and Jagoda were our lead learners this week and have been great role models for their class. Together they have set 3 targets for everyone to work on and have also awarded points to children they have noticed being ready, respectful and safe.

Literacy: This week we have been learning about verb tenses, past present and future and also looking at active and passive verbs.

Maths: We have been working on multiples and factors and improving our times table knowledge. We also continued to work on fractions, decimals and percentages. We are looking forward to learning about improper fractions next week.

R.E: Our focus this week has been on Advent. We have been learning about the lead up to Christmas and created our own Advent wreath showing what each coloured candle represents. We enjoyed watching Father Simon blessing the crib on Teams.

HWB: We took part in an internet safety assembly. Following this, we completed scenario cards to discuss how we could keep ourselves and others safe online. We also watched an assembly from the NSPCC and took part in the activities that reminded us of our rights.

Writing: We have been learning about expository writing. We used the 5 day lockdown break as our main theme and produced excellent reasons to explain why this might be a good idea but also why it might cause problems in the long run.

Art: We created some colourful Space themed pictures using chalk pastels.

Digital learning: We learned how to use Kahoot as a whole class and had lots of fun taking part in educational quizzes. Some of us have even been trying this at home too.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Roy

P3B Learning

This week we have been revising our spanish by playing games with colours and numbers as well as introducing ourselves to everyone else in the class.

We are all very excited that we have started learning joined up handwriting and have been practicing to make it very neat.

Halli really enjoyed our wordboost story this week which is called “Beware of Girls”.  Naomie liked it because the girl was really clever and tricked the wolf.

As part of our “Owl who was afraid of the dark” story we looked at day and night and why they happen.  Jude enjoyed working with his partner Dylan to make a fact sheet about a type of owl.  They wanted to find out about Tawny Owls but Saujas and Filip learned about the long eared owl.

For maths, Fatima loves that we are working to learn about 3D shapes.  We have also been working on adding using columns.

We are looking forward to next week because we will be leading the P1-3 assembly to share all about our school value of Respect!
