The children have been exploring a variety of literacy areas to develop their learning….
“ As I play and learn, I enjoy exploring interesting materials for writing and different ways of recording my experiences ”
The children have been developing their pencil control and handling and exploring mark making opportunities. They started to write their santa letters and posted them to the North Pole through the nursery post box!
The children have also been busy with arts and crafts to make christmas cards for their friends and loved ones and decorate crowns for our upcoming Christmas parties!
Each day the children open an “Advent Christmas Story” to read at story time. They enjoy reading the stories to one another too!
” I enjoy exploring and playing with the patterns and sounds of language and can use what I learn ”

Some of the children wanted to make gifts to put under the tree too! So we set up a wrapping station. We assed labels so the children could write on their gift who it is for!
“I can wrap presents” Michael Jessica “I can cut the paper”
The children have been enjoying sewing to make christmas decorations for the nursery and to sell at the Christmas Fayre.

The children had a lovely week discussing road safety. Small groups of children went out each day on walks in and around Polbeth. They learned the importance of road safety and how to be safe!
For snack the children enjoyed making traffic lights from cheese, tomoto and cucumber to have with their crackers!
We made up a road safety tuff tray and the children had traffic lights in the garden to explore and use in their play!

Fantastic block play from the morning children this term!
Lucy explored measurement, balance and height as she built a magnificent tower! To begin with, her tower would tumble but through fantastic problem solving and thinking skills Lucy managed to over come initial hicuups and built a tower as tall as herself!
“I want it to be bigger than me”. “It is wobbly and falls!”.
“This is my tower and I am going to live in it!”.
Rosie build a wonderful castle using the large blocks.
Rosie has explored weight, shape, size, length, symmetry and pattern to create her structure. She added three tiers to the top and built a seat to sit at to look through the window!
Rosie invited her friends over to visit. They helped make seats outside so they could sit and chat through the window!
“I built a castle! This is my window and it has three chimneys!”
Callum has been very busy outside working hard with the bricks! He wanted to build a house and set to work on building walls!
“Its like mono blocking”. Callum also shared his knowledge on how to make cement – “you need sand and water”. He independently built his walls with skill and accuracy. Callum’s walls looked fantastic! As Callum used the bricks to build he is also exploring wider world concepts and is becoming aware of different kinds of jobs people can have. “I am a builder!”.
As the children explore and build they are developing their spatial awareness and risk assessing what works, how and why and assessing the safety of their structures. Great job!
