Curriculum Information

To help us achieve our aims for learning we use Curriculum for Excellence, Pre-Birth to Three, GIRFEC, the Scottish Government ‘Building the Ambition: Being Me’ document and their self-evaluation guide “How Good is our Early Learning and Childcare”.  We aim to ensure that every child should experience a broad education which develops skills for learning, for life and work, with a real focus on literacy and numeracy and promotes an active and healthy lifestyle.

Briefly, there are eight main areas of learning:-

  • Expressive Arts
  • Literacy and English
  • Technologies
  • Religious and Moral Education
  • Social Studies
  • Health & Well Being
  • Science
  • Numeracy and Mathematics

We develop the four capacities:

  • Successful Learners
  • Confident Individuals
  • Effective Contributors
  • Responsible Citizens

Pre-Birth to Three identifies key principles of effective practice:

Rights of the Child
Relationships
Responsive Care
Respect
These principles support sensitive and well-informed approaches to this age group and beyond. The guidance is interpreted and adapted to suit each professional’s context.

Children learn through play.  They listen, observe, talk, explore, investigate and experiment in order to learn about the world – but above all it’s FUN! We value outdoor learning and are outside in all weathers.

The information board in the entrance area of the nursery keeps parents up to date with what we are focusing on learning at any particular moment.  We also have a learning wall in the nursery and online for you to see our learning evolving.

There are also worksheets/games to take home and complete with your child available in the entrance. We cover lots of topics throughout the year including the four seasons and celebrate lots of festivals eg Chinese New year, St Andrews Day, Burns Day and many more.
