Home Learning ‘Virtual Playroom’

We hope you are all continuing to keep busy  during this current lockdown and hope that it wont be too long before we are all back at Nursery.

The staff have been working  hard to put together ideas for you to engage in activities at home if you can.

Digital learning is very promising and the staff have set up a Virtual Playroom for you to explore and enjoy at this time. You will find this on your  child’s Learning Journal so please log in. If you are continuing to have difficulties logging in then please phone the nursery. We hope that you are going to love the Virtual Playroom.    We will do our very best to keep this updated with new activities and learning.

Below is the Link to the Virtual Playroom and ‘Tiger Who Came To Tea’ Sway

Have fun and enjoy.

We plan to release 1 sway per week for the children to work through at their leisure. Please note that this is not compulsary, it is up to the children if they want to take part.

Halloween Celebrations

What a busy and spooooooky week we had to celebrate Halloween! Many of the children came into nursery dressed up or enjoyed dressing up in our witches hats and ghoul outfits.

We have been making magical potions using messy materials and also gathering natural items outside to add to our cauldrons.  We loved eating green slime jelly for snack and ghost bananas!  Some of us had great fun making spooky biscuits and exploring lots and lots of tactile and sensory messy materials for different activities.

Here is a wee look at some of the scary, fun, gooey, eewy, sticky, colourful activities we enjoyed….

We were dunking for some juicy delicious apples….

We had lots of fun making ghost balloons and different witches  potions with spaghetti, jelly, pumpkins, coloured water and autumn materials including soil, leaves and pine cones! We even used vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to make EXPLODING pumpkins!

Lots of sand and water play, scary halloween and pumpkin number hunting in the garden, spooky stories, sticky baking and woodwork pumpkin experimenting…..

We enjoyed making scary music using dried foods to make musical shakers and counting and stacking pumpkins.

Car wash time!

The morning children had the hose on in the nursery garden and they were playing with the water to make puddles and spray patterns.

Evan “we could have a car wash!!!”

The children had so much fun making their own car wash! We worked together to gather the cars, bikes and scooters and got out the brushes and sponges to give them a good clean!

The next day we took small groups of children to the nursery car park to clean real cars! They had so much fun and were so proud of their hard work!  Thank you boys and girls for our lovely clean cars!

Look at Our Beautiful Front Garden.

We would love to take this opportunity to thank Dave Nimmo for the beautiful job he has done restoring our planters at the front of the nursery.  We just love our little Gnomes and other Garden ornaments. The children have been  out looking at the new plants and we are using lots of new language for describing and this is a lovely talking point. We will continue to take the children out to the garden and talk about how we are going to look after the plants.

Thank you again Dave Nimmo. You are a Star!!

Another week of Learning and Fun

The children have had the opportunity to mark make outside using bottles filled with liquids with a little hole in them and when they squeeze the bottle the liquid sprays out to make effective marks on the ground such as shapes and letters of their names etc

We continued our mark making experiences outside by using paint brushes to on the wall at and used a variety of different colours to brighten up the wall.

We also used flour in one of our tuff trays and used feathers and sticks to to extend our own ideas in drawing design and mark making.

This is helping us to develop our fine motor skills!!

Katie: ‘A Butterfly’

Oonagh: ‘i want to draw me’

Lewis: ‘I’m Painting my Dad’

We have been developing our gross motor skills with exploring movement through Yoga by participating in the cosmic kids video

We are continuing to do our science activities, we used different smells and bicarbonate of soda to the vinegar mix which is giving us more depth and breadth of learning.  We are going to do a volcano experiment!!!!!  It will be amazing.

The children are showing a great interest in our floorbook planning. They really enjoyed looking through the photos of their friends and the activities they were doing and were able to recall what we have been doing in Nursery.
