P1 Friday 8th May – Numeracy

Hello again! How many of those Tricky Words could you read?

If you have a big brother or sister why don’t you join them for our school Assembly at 11.00am on Teams.

If not, listen to a story with Elevenses by David Walliams and catch up with the Assembly Power Point Miss Clarkson will post on the blog later.

http://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/

We have been looking at money and coins over the last few weeks.

Today we are going to try to work out how to give change from 10p

Watch and listen to this short clip.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p017tzx0

  • To work out how much change we should get, we have to use our subtraction skills
  • If I had 10p and bought a sweet for 9p how much change should I get?
  • 10p – 9p = 1p

  • Use the Power Point below.
  • Move the correct number of 1p coins that is spent on the toys into the purse to identify the correct change
  • DO NOT use the power point as a slide show or you won’t be able to move the coins
  • Draw each toy in your jotter and record the subtraction calculation beside each one e.g. 10p – 6p = 4p or draw the correct amount of 1p coins beside each one

Change from 10p

Finish off by playing this game to work out the correct change

Celebration Assembly Friday the 8th of May

2020_05_08 Assembly remote learning

Please see this week’s celebration assembly.  This week’s assembly is following on from Captain Tom Moore’s story which highlights the commemoration of VE Day and you will find some challenges on how you can commemorate VE Day at home.  Well done to all the pupils who are working well at home and I really enjoyed seeing your work about Captain Tom Moore.  Good luck and I look forward to seeing some of your great work next week.  Miss Clarkson.

Good morning everyone. It’s Friday again and the end of another week of home learning. It has been lovely to see the work you are sending over to myself and Miss Hamill so well done and keep up the fantastic work!

Today’s RME lesson is about the 4 Noble Truths that Buddhists believe in. Have a read through the powerpoint The 4 Noble Truths and the last slide tells you what your task is.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend but will hopefully speak to some of you at assembly at 11am.

A1- Simple Science Experiment.

Good morning guys!

Well it’s our favourite day of the week again, YAY! Enjoy the rest of your learning tasks this morning and have a fabby  weekend!

Today I thought we could try a very simple experiment which shows the importance of using soap when washing your hands! As we all know it is very important to wash our hands properly, especially just now.

Items you will need:

  • Plate
  • Water
  • Washing up liquid
  • pepper

Instructions:

This is my daughter having a go! A very simple explanation for this is that the soap chases the pepper away!

There are other cool experiments you can do with washing up liquid, have a look at the link below.

P2/3 HWB – Friday 8th May 2020

Good morning boys and girls, I cant believe it is nearly the weekend again, what a quick week.

This morning I would like you all to have a think about our bodies and what we need to do to keep them healthy.

I challenge you to complete your daily mile this morning, either running, cycling, cycling or skipping. You decide! I will be walking 3 miles today as part of a healthy challenge i am taking part in!

Take pictures of your surroundings, record the time it took you to complete your mile and when you get home, have a healthy snack.

Enjoy,

Miss Hamill 🙂
