P5a debate whether humans should be extinct!

This week in P5a we have been debating whether or not humans deserve to survive, based on our learning in topic. The pupils debating that humans do not deserve to survive won! Although we all would prefer it if humans do not become extinct…

Click here and here for a few examples of our debating skills.

We have had a fantastic time this morning – look at us all dressed up for Red Nose Day. Miss Anderson and P5a

Fire Safety In Class 1

As part of our ‘People Who Help Us’ topic, we have been learning about the Fire Brigade.  We have been learning about the role of a Fire Fighter and how important their special uniform is.

“A brick could fall on the fire fighter’s head, so that’s why they have to wear helmets!” Cody

We have our very own fire station in class 1, where we love to dress up like Fire Fighters!  We have been learning about the different equipment that Fire Fighters use.  We especially enjoyed learning about fire engines!  Here we are building our very own fire engine!

At Drama, we have been pretending to be Fire Fighters.  We went on a special mission to extinguish the fire in the Sensory Room!

“We have to extiguish the fire!”  Liam

We have been writing all about what to do if you see a fire.  Mrs Stewart brought her special stamp to Class 1 as she was so impressed with our great writing!

“If you see a fire call 999.” Cameron

Primary 2/1b’s Big Dig!

This week when we arrived in class we were upset to discover that Ziggy and Zaggy had disappeared!  Holly though she’d spotted their spaceship in the sky.  Then Miss Henderson arrived with the magic box and the next clue.  The clue told us to dig in the sand for the key.  The sand pit had thirty keys in it and we tried them all!

Oliver had the last key which thankfully opened the box.

Inside the box we found Ziggy and Zaggy with some sweets.  The sweets were from the past.  Please help us find out about old fashioned sweets by completing our questionnaire.

Thank you to all of the parents who told us about playground games last week.  We learned lots.  We had fun sorting photographs of playground games into ‘today’ and ‘long ago.’  This was tricky because some of the black and white photos were from today and we had to look for other clues.

THE AMAZON CHEST HAS BEEN OPENED!

Congratulations to Kirstie McIntosh who has successfully completed all ten parts of the Amazon Challenge.

She opened the mysterious chest and was rewarded with the prizes inside.

The chest has the power to regenerate more prizes so we wonder who will be next to complete the challenge…

Gremlins in P7M!

Oops!! Miss McDougall had problems posting on the blog last week 🙁 and managed to only posted the title! Apologies…Gremlins must have been about!  Hopefully we can post this week and update you on our progress 🙂  Last week was Climate Week and we were given a one hour challenge by Miss McDougall to design an eco-home…We came up with loads of ideas…..solar panels and tree houses seemed to be the most popular choices.  This week we have been busy making our designs 3D.  L ast week saw us taking part in World Maths Day and we were able to take part in mental maths challenges with children from different countries.  South Africa, Australia and Venezuela were the most popular countries we competed against.  We are also looking forward to the P6 show of Alice which we will see at the Academy on Thursday…Good luck P6 from 7M!

What a buzz in P2pg!

There certainly was a buzz around P2pg this week.  We had a great week rehearsing for Billy no buzz, then our dress rehearsal on Thursday and the main event today!  The children have been very excited all week and were thrilled with their performances.  Therefore the whole class received a Star Award for all their hard work and superb performances.

This week we also had a our big book swap, which was great as we got to bring in the books to swap with others.  We also made something special for someone special which you will find out about on Sunday!  I’ve promised not to say anymore!

In our topic we found out about the people who lived in castles.  We didn’t know there were around 150 people working in them, doing all sorts of jobs including gunners, knights, blacksmiths, stewards, storytellers and musicians.  We enjoyed making up drawing and describing some of the people and giving them names too!  Next Wednesday we will have our trip to Craigmillar Castle and we are really looking forward to that!

Well done P2pg.

Primary 2/1 The next clue…

We were all very excited this week when Mrs White arrived with our next clue.  This time the clue told us to follow the arrows to find the next key.

"This way!"

The arrows led us along the corridor, upstairs, through the gym hall…

"Look!"

…and through the door to Miss Henderson’s office.

"We've found the key!"

The new key opened the padlock and inside we found lots of playground toys and games.  We have had fun this week playing with our new toys outside in the playground.  We spent some time thinking about questions we could ask Mums and Dads about playtime when they were at school and we have sent a questionnaire home.

I wonder what will be in the box next week?

Billy No Buzz

This morning we performed out very special assembly to our family and friends. Here is what we had to say about the perfoamnce:

Next week we are looking forward to our trip to Craigmillar castle on Wednesday, we hope the rain stays away!

P5ms Learn Through Their Assembly

Today we performed our assembly for the school and parents. All our hard work paid off and the performance was enjoyed by all.

We can’t believe how much we’ve learned from working on our assembly. As well as developing the four Cs of drama – Cooperation, Coordination, Communication and Concentration – we learned so much about the lives of Victorian children. We really felt we lived the parts and most of us are very relieved that we live in modern times!

From the Blog Post Box:

Someone I was proud of in our Assembly today was…

…Finlay, because his dancing was really good.      Jack

…Lauren K, because she did great actions in her dance.       Isla

…Adam, for learning all of his words quickly.       Olivia

…Flyn, for trying his best and for speaking slowly.       Nathan

…Amy, for playing her clarinet really well at the end and for remembering all of her words.      Lauren C

P3b’s Learning

We have been very busy making and finding out about Egyptians. This week we painted our pyramids and we have been investigating how old the pyramids are.

In writing, we wrote about an Ancient Egyptian coming to school. We were inspired by Jeremy Strong’s story There’s a Pharaoh in our Bath! Some of us were really inventive!

We have been reading and practising putting text into the correct order. If you keep on reading and thinking, you can easily put the text into the correct order.

This week the Hexagons were continuing directions and coordinates.

Louisa and Lexis worked together with Mrs Noble to use their cooking skills to make cakes this week.

P3 Author Visit

P3 were very lucky to meet Aileen Paterson, the author of the very famous Maisie books.

She spent time a lot of time telling us all about herself and answering questions.  Aileen read us a story and drew us a picture of Maisie.  It was fantastic!

Class 3: Dinner time on the Titanic

This week we have been finding out about meal times onboard the Titanic. We found photographs of the dining rooms on the internet. Some of the great words we thought of to describe the First Class Dining Room were ‘majestic’, ‘very posh’, ‘perfect’ and ‘cool’!

We looked at some of the menus from Titanic’s voyage. We discovered that Third Class passengers had good food with lots of fruit and fresh bread. —Second Class passengers had 3 courses and lots of choice. —First Class diners had amazing 11 course meals!

We have decided to recreate a meal time from the Titanic. We started our preparations this week by making some ‘asparagus’ out of salt dough. This will be made into ‘Asparagus Salad with Champagne-Saffron Vinaigrette’, part of the last meal that First Class passengers had before the iceberg was struck.

Our asparagus (we still have to paint it green!).

We also made some plates for our Titanic dinner, decorated to a very high standard just like the originals.

Geordie would like to share with you how to make salt dough. It’s great fun to prepare and you can make all sorts of models from it.

Ingredients – 1/2 cup of salt, 1 cup of plain flour, 1/2 cup of luke warm water.

1) Put the salt into a cup.

2) Put flour into a cup.

3) Put the flour and the salt into a bowl

4) Put a little bit of the water into the bowl and stir it in.

5) Add more water bit by bit and keep stirring. Do not put too much water in or you might have to start again.

6) The mixture is finished when it is soft and doughy like play dough.

You can mould it into the shape you want then dry it out by baking it in the oven or cooking it in the microwave.

Geordie adds “I hope you have a good play with it”.

What we thought about this week’s topic work:

Josh thought the Titanic pictures were ‘amazing’ and said he really liked making the plates and the salt dough vegetables.

Nathan enjoyed playing with the flour best of all, he loved the feel of it on his hands :).

Open Morning in P1g

A successful week in P5ms

This week we have been practising hard for our assembly.  We have prepared our costumes and props and are looking forward to presenting it next Friday.  We hope you enjoy it!

We have been creating symmetrical patterns in maths – next week they are going to become even more complicated!

It has been a week full of achievement for P5ms.  Emily and Ellie have  reached Level 6 in gymnastics, Isla and Lauren K have  achieved new belts in Judo and Amy completed her Copper Music medal.  We are so proud of all of them.  If you would like to find out more about these accomplishments, more information can be found on the Achievement Wall.

Who’s raving about reading this week?

This week Jack, Paul, Ellie and Antonia were enjoying finding out more about The Victorians during our Reading Rave.  They were reading different non-fiction books and taking notes on the new information that they found.  Paul found out that anaesthetic was first introduced in Victorian hospitals.  Ellie discovered that The FA Cup was won by a non-league club in 1901 called Tottenham Hotspur!  Thanks for sharing these interesting facts with us.

From the Blog Post Box:

I can improve my part in our assembly by…

… learning my lines.   Callum

…not fidgeting!      Amy

… speaking louder and with more confidence.   Isla

P1b’s learning log

At the beginning of the week, P1b carefully followed instructions to make pirate hats!   Kayleigh enjoyed drawing a jolly roger to place onto her hat.  Using our experience, we were then able to write instructions on how to make a pirate hat.

We also learned about the four points on a compass.  We worked with a partner to find North, South, East and West in the playground and then played the fun game of port and starboard!

Ava mentioned that she enjoyed learning about Red Nose Day during this week’s assembly.   We learned that raising money for Red Nose Day can help less fortunate children gain their rights, such as the right to nutritious food, clean water and safe environment to live in.  We will take part in Red Nose Day on the 15th March by dressing down or wearing Red clothing.

Fun in Class 1!

Sorting Socks

This week in maths we have been gathering, grouping and sorting a variety of objects.   We enjoyed arranging our dinosaurs into groups depending on their colour and size.  Some of the dinosaurs were tricky to sort as they didn’t fit into any of the given categories.  This was when we had to get creative! ‘This dinosaur goes here, because he’s the boss of all the other dinosaurs and he needs to look after them’ said Cody.

When the dinosaurs couldn’t be sorted depending on their colour and size, we had to decide ourselves how to sort them.  ‘Here are all the dinosaurs that can fly’ explained Liam.  Jayden sorted his dinosaurs by height and placed them next to similar sized trees so that they could reach the branches.

The boys in class 1 also helped Miss Barrie to sort her socks!  Miss Barrie had too many mismatching socks, so the boys gave her a helping hand!  Here we are arranging them into matching pairs.  We enjoyed looking at the different colours, sizes and patterns.  We are getting very good at describing similarities and differences.  This was a great fine motor activity too!  Miss Barrie thinks that the boys should help to hang up the washing at home!

 Reading with a twist!

The boys in class 1 love to read!  We enjoy practising our common words and tricky words in lots of different ways.  This week we had to listen very carefully to Miss Barrie’s instructions, and then we had to find and balance on our words.  It was quite tricky but we had great fun!

 Phonics Fun!

This week we practised our letter formation in the playground.  We used lots of different colours of chalk to write our new sound on the ground.  This was so much fun.  ‘Nearly the whole entire playground is covered in m and ch’ said Cody.
