Fun in Class 1!

Sorting Socks

This week in maths we have been gathering, grouping and sorting a variety of objects.   We enjoyed arranging our dinosaurs into groups depending on their colour and size.  Some of the dinosaurs were tricky to sort as they didn’t fit into any of the given categories.  This was when we had to get creative! ‘This dinosaur goes here, because he’s the boss of all the other dinosaurs and he needs to look after them’ said Cody.

When the dinosaurs couldn’t be sorted depending on their colour and size, we had to decide ourselves how to sort them.  ‘Here are all the dinosaurs that can fly’ explained Liam.  Jayden sorted his dinosaurs by height and placed them next to similar sized trees so that they could reach the branches.

The boys in class 1 also helped Miss Barrie to sort her socks!  Miss Barrie had too many mismatching socks, so the boys gave her a helping hand!  Here we are arranging them into matching pairs.  We enjoyed looking at the different colours, sizes and patterns.  We are getting very good at describing similarities and differences.  This was a great fine motor activity too!  Miss Barrie thinks that the boys should help to hang up the washing at home!

 Reading with a twist!

The boys in class 1 love to read!  We enjoy practising our common words and tricky words in lots of different ways.  This week we had to listen very carefully to Miss Barrie’s instructions, and then we had to find and balance on our words.  It was quite tricky but we had great fun!

 Phonics Fun!

This week we practised our letter formation in the playground.  We used lots of different colours of chalk to write our new sound on the ground.  This was so much fun.  ‘Nearly the whole entire playground is covered in m and ch’ said Cody.

  2. What a fantastic amount of work you have been doing Class 1. I am very impressed by your sorting ability! I’m sure mums and dads will use your help sorting and matching socks when doing the washing.

Great work and it is lovely to see your pictures.
