Another busy week in Class 3

Class 3 have been very busy this week taking part in various Health and Fitness activities.

On Monday we had a Silver Circle time were we moved around three different stations.

GeordieIn class 1 we learned that everyone has the right to a healthy lifestyle. Everyone should have healthy food and clean water, a house  and medicine if they are ill.

JoshWe practised races in the hall.  For the egg and spoon race we used a potato!

CaryI loved playing on the wii in class 3.

On Tuesday we played Boccia. Before we tried it we watched a clip on the Smartboard which showed us how to play it. It is kind of like bowls. You have to throw a little ball to start with. Then everyone throws their own ball to see who can get nearest to the little ball.

Wednesday was Sports Day. This is Nathan running in one of the P5 races.

Afterwards we had our very own Class 1, 2 and 3 award ceremony. We had worked hard to join in and watch the  races.

Josh getting his medal.

Josh – I liked my medal. It made me feel good. Sports Day was really good and I liked the egg and spoon race.

Another exciting thing that happened on Wednesday was that Cary worked with Mr Marsden to transform the sensory room into an Angry Birds haven! He then invited the younger children in to explore  and play with the activities that he had set up.

Cary – I put up lights and  used the sparkle ball to make stars. I filmed the little ones with the iPad.

Mr Marsden and the class 3 adults were very impressed with what Cary had created.

Cary – The best thing about it was seeing the wee ones have fun.  I feel proud and I think my mum will be proud.

Our last Health and Fitness activity this week was a very special healthy snack.

Aidan I thought that the fruit skewers were really tasty and I really enjoyed having a cheese toasted sandwich.

Thanks very much to Mrs White and class 2 for preparing it for us :).

P5a have fun with fitness!

This week we have (once again) been very, very busy. We have taken part in many healthy activities, including Sports Day. Yesterday we were very lucky to have a fun day at Xcite.  Rather than write about it we have made a video of the activities we took part in. We used a special technique to make the video called Time Lapse. Time Lapse is when a camera is set to take photos automatically (every second in our case). The photos are then put together to make a film. We hope you enjoy it.

We also met our new teacher today!

Miss Anderson and P5a

Fitness Fortnight Fun!

This week we have played different sports such as golf, boccia and curling.  We particularly enjoyed trying to putt the golf ball into the net and hole.  It was so much fun!

Sports day also took place on Wednesday.  Well done to all children for taking part!  Here are some of our sports day highlights:

-Leia enjoyed taking part in the sack race.

-Grace liked the potato and spoon race.

-Sam liked the relay race around the park.

– ‘I liked the mum and dad’s race’. Aidan

-‘I liked it when Mr Welsh gave out the medals.’  Rachael

Health and Fitness activities in P2lg

This week we have had a variety of activities relating to health and fitness.

We talked about the importance of eating a balanced diet and learned about some nurtients we get from different foods. We talked about trying to eat 5 portions of fruit  and vegetables every day.  We looked at art work by an Italian artist called Guiseppe Arcimboldo. He had created some very funny portraits using fruit, vegetables and flowers. We created our own fruity faces pictures. Here are Ross and Caitlin with their pictures:

We thought about what fitness activity we had enjoyed most this week, here is what some of us had to say:

Lauryn “I enjoyed boccia, golf, rounders and playground games.”

Noah Y “I enjoyed golf. “

Kate “I enjoyed curling.”

Lennox “I enjoyed boccia.”

We also had lots of fun at sports day and were very proud of Megan, Sophie, Colin and Caitlin who were all awarded medals.

We are looking forward to more fitness fun next week.

Exhausted!

We’ve just come back from a morning of fun at the leisure centre. We had a great time playing games together in the swimming pool. After that we headed to the park to meet up with P5a for our snack. Then we had some more fun on a bouncy castle and played football, tennis and badminton. We walked home very tired, but happy.

On Wednesday we had a curling tournament where the Curling Crystals impressed us with their outstanding performance.

We were very proud of everybody’s performance at Sports Day, particularly our winners Antonia, Flyn, Lauren C and Declan. You truly were megastars!

As well as all this we have been learning about what makes an effective advert. Tomorrow we will be working on our final part of our Home Team Challenge – creating adverts for the opening day of our conservation parks.

Log in later to find out the winning Home Team.

*UPDATE*

After reviewing a number of excellent adverts from all teams, the Happy Hippos were crowned the overall winnners of the the Design a Conservation Park Challenge. Well done Hippos – you sure looked happy about your victory!

Primary 2/1

We have had great fun so far in health and fitness fortnight…

On Monday we played a game called Boccia which Rowan pointed out is very like French Boules which she plays at the caravan.  We tried very hard to throw our coloured ball as close as we could to the white jack ball.

In the afternoon Primary 7 childrentaught us some new team games in the playground and we had lots of fun.  Thank you to Sian, Katie, Aisha, Lyndsay, Abbie and Aqsa for teaching us! Our favourite game was with the parachute.

Today we all took part in different races for sports day and Olivia did a grteat job cheering us all on. Thanks to any parents or grandparents who were able to come along and support us.  We hope you had fun too.

Fitness Fortnight Fun!

P3lm have been thoroughly enjoying learning the sport Boccia and enjoyed a class competition. Well done Liam, who took to the sport easily and won the competition. Big thanks to Mrs Waddel and Mrs White who treated our class to  “Ready Steady Cook”. We all enjoyed watching the demonstration and loved the Blueberry and Lemon Passion, Fruit Kebabs, Tuna, Spring Onion and Cucumber wraps and Italian Sandwich. Yum!

Mary’s Meals Success

Congratulations to Abbie Megaughin and Lyndsay Mitchell from Primary 7b who have been working with Mrs Jamieson to make up backpacks to send to Mary’s Meals. They have collected enough equipment to make up 64 backpacks and one additional box of goods which will be sent to children in Africa to help them to go to school. On Wednesday 12th June 2013, Mary’s Meals collected the bags and thanked the girls and Mrs Jamieson for their efforts. Thanks to Antonia and Lauren who handed over the back packs to Mary’s Meals on behalf of Abbie and Lyndsay. We are very proud of their achievement and would like to thank all of the families who donated items and backpacks for a very worthwhile cause.

Class 3 news

This week some class 3 pupils got creative with vegetables. Josh had the challenge of making a scenario that demonstrated co-operation.

Josh – I made cooperative carrots that were building a robot together. One had the body and the other was putting the head on.

Aidan took inspiration from our upcoming Health and Fitness Fortnight.

Aidan – I made some sporty sprouts and a partying pea from tissue paper. I named the pea Party Peate.

During these activities we were developing skills such as problem solving, working with others, sharing resources and fine motor skills.

On Wednesday morning we joined all the other classes in the school for the Giant Walking Bus. We walked beside the road and displayed our road safety posters. Lots of other people were walking at the same time all over Britain.

Our message to drivers:

Aidan – 20’s PLENTY! SLOW DOWN AROUND SCHOOLS!

Geordie – KEEP US SAFE AND SLOW DOWN

Staying Safe in the Sun

We have been learning about the Seaside!  There are lots of fun things to do and see at the Seaside, but it is also very important to stay safe.  This week we learned about keeping ourselves safe in the sun.

‘If you don’t stay safe in the sun you could get sunburn.’ Cody

We listened very carefully for information on how to keep ourselves safe in the sun and were able to tell Mrs Stewart some things that we could do to stay safe.  We enjoyed watching a safety in the sun cartoon.  This helped us to realise how dangerous the sun can be if we don’t protect ourselves.

We created some lovely beach bags and glued on pictures of the different things that we would take to the beach.  Some of things we packed in our beach bags were:  parasols, t-shirts, towels and packed lunch boxes.  Miss Barrie was very happy to see that we all included sun cream, sunglasses, sun hats and water!

Liam drew some lovely pictures of Mr Bear keeping himself safe in the sun.  Liam drew pictures of Mr Bear wearing a t-shirt, sunglasses and a hat.  He also drew a big bottle of sun cream!  Cody drew a picture of a bench in the shade, as it is very important to spend time in the shade on sunny days.

At drama, we were able to show Mr Marsden how to stay safe in the sun.  We pretended to apply sun cream and we had lots of fun dressing up with sun glasses and sun hats.  We made sure that we played with our beach toys in the shade, out of the hot sun!

We will continue to learn about staying safe in the sun during Health and Fitness fortnight.

P4a

This has been an extremely busy week.

On Monday we had a special treat as Hibs Football Players Alan Maybury and Andy Kirk came along to teach us football skills. We had great fun even though the weather decided it was going to be cold and dull!

Our bowling was cancelled but we got to go on the ‘Giant Walking bus’ instead. We had to come up with a logo very quickly and we all decided that Cameron’s logo was fantastic – ‘You Speed, We Bleed!’

This week we learnt about the digestive system and on Thursday we did an experiment to see how the digestive system works. It was  ‘gross’, ‘disgusting’, ‘cool’, ‘sick’ ‘amazing’ and ‘minted’ depending on who’s view you listened to ! We all had great fun though. We had to make the best poo in our groups but Mrs. Ghafoor couldn’t decide on a winning entry so there were five joint first places!

Can you decide?!

An enjoyable week for p2lg

This week we have been very busy and have enjoyed a variety of things. On Tuesday everyone attended the Golden Club event. We had lots of fun. Below you will see some pictures of us doing the Conga!

On Wednesday afternoon we were invited to join p5 for their party. We had fun hour playing games with our buddies in p5.

Another enjoyable activty this week was our art lesson. We looked at Aboriginal art from Australia and created our own pictures of turtles in the style of Aboriginal art. We enjoyed using the cotton buds to paint instead of paintbrushes.

Pupil of the week this week was Rory. He made Mrs Gallagher smile at Circle Time when he said that if he had a wish from a genie he would wish for flowers for his mum. Mrs Gallagher thought that was really kind. He also did a super piece of aboriginal art work too. A great week for Rory 🙂

Next week is Fitness Fortnight, remember to be dressed for sports activities Monday -Thursday. Sports day is on Wednesday, let’s hope ths sun comes out for us.

This week in P2pg

This week we have been building our Eco Houses in class.  We remembered all the things that make a house Eco friendly and put some of these ideas into our houses.  We drew and made roof gardens for vegetables, showers instead of baths, solar panels and made lots of windows to conserve energy in the home.  Drew low flush toilets, composting toilets, rainwater barrels and compost heaps.  They were great Eco Houses!

In our writing we have been creating stories about the Mountain that appeared at the bottom of our gardens.  These were great and we like writing imaginitive stories, so much so that some of us are now writing our own little books and sharing these as Show and Tell.

We continued learning about Friendships through stories.  We listened to Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper and found out about our feelings when we get upset and fall out with friends.  We also started to make a ‘friendship mat’ which we can use to when we are trying to work out problems with others.

Well done P2pg for another good week.

P7b visited Bathgate Academy!

This week p7s visited Bathgate Academy for two days on Wednesday and Thursday as preparation for after the summer. Here are some of their thoughts…

Ramie: “I enjoyed the cafeteria because the hot dogs and donuts were really nice!”

Adrian: “In maths we had a teacher who could predict our numbers even though we hid them in sums.”

Abbie Madd.: “Science was great because we got to set our hand on fire! We dipped our hand in bubbly water so that the fire couldn’t harm us though.”

Sian: “I did my clarinet exam up at the high school and I’m proud of myself because I was very nervous before it. I get the results in two weeks.”

Dylan: “I liked science because we got to make custard bouncy balls and we learned about bunsen burners and how to stay safe.”

Ross: “In art we designed our names in graffiti style, it was fun.”

Ali: “We also learned how to do perspective drawing in the art class.”

Rhona: “I enjoyed CDT because we made little candle holders out of hardwood.”

Murray: “Music was really good and we were playing a South American song on the keyboards.”

Nathan: “I enjoyed science because we added hydrogen to the flames and made it pop!”

Kirstie: “Home Economics was good and I enjoyed making fairy cakes.”

Aisha: “Also in science we managed to suck an egg through the neck of a beaker using heat. It was cool!”

Amber: “I enjoyed the art lesson because we did still life drawings of plants.”

Inspection!

This week our conservation parks were given a pre-opening inspection. We had to make sure that, as well as providing for the needs of our animals, our guests were well looked after too. We are pleased to report that all 4 parks passed the inspection.

Two parks received special awards.

The Best Park award went to The Happy Hippos’ 4 Mountain Zoo who impressed the inspector with their well stocked gift shop and cafe.

The runner up award went to the Jolly Jaguars’ Conservation Park with their stunning park entrance and fantastic logo design.

Chelsea Flower Show by P1g and P6h

We had fun making a diorama with our P6 buddies! The buddies prepared a fact poster about the Chelsea Flower Show. We learned that the chelsea flower show gardens take 25 days to build and it is 500 London buses long. Also the winning flower was a Geranium.  We then had the challenge of making a garden diorama of our dream garden that could be entered into the show.  We had a variety of media to choose from, we made ponds, washing lines, apple trees, picnics and much more! It was so much fun working with the buddies! Some of our gardens even had moveable parts like see saws and windmills. Lastly,we had to write a ‘Did you know?’ caption to attach to our diorama. Look at the fun we had! Please feel free to look at our work on the school gallery!

P3lm are having a busy week!

Here are some of the things we have enjoyed so far this week:

“Learning halfway between two numbers, for example, halfway between 40 and 60 is 50” (valerija).

“Working with numbers within 1000” (Zoe).

“Making handprint hens in art” (Mahad).

 “Everything!” (Aidan).

“Making muddy pigs!” (Rebecca).

“Spending time with my friends” (Evie).

“Doing SRA cards in reading” (Emma).

“Learning new words in spelling” (Callum D).

Football Frenzy in P4l

Hello Everyone

We had great fun yesterday when Alan Maybury from Hibs Football Club came to give us a football skills session.  It was a bit cooler outside but we soon warmed up with lots of running around and games.  A big thank you to Mr Maybury and his colleague Andy for coming in.

More hard work was on the cards today when we became gardeners.  The whole class was involved in tidying the playground and spreading out wood chips in the garden area at the side of the school.  With the nice weather we have been using the area for Golden Time so it was good to be able to give it a spruce up.  We were rewarded with delicious ice lollies from Mrs Jamieson.  The ice lollies were great because they helped us think extra hard during our writing planning session about a flashback story about being stuck in a bottle.

Bye for now P4l
