Super Shared Start in P1m!

This week we were very excited to welcome our parents and families into our classroom.  We had lots of fun working on money tasks with them.   We sorted coins, made coin rubbings, coloured in and completed giant coins, counted coin collections, played money board games and games on the smartboard.  Phew, we’ve been so busy!  We had lots of fun with our family members, playing with them and showing them what we can do.

Next week, we’re looking forward to our autumn walk on Thursday and the end of term church service on Friday.  We hope to see you there 🙂

Balbardie took the lead by Daniel D scoring and we were still in the lead when Sophie scored our second. Boghall primary caught up with us by the second half. Logan scored our third and we were leading again until Boghall scored another four and the match ended with the score at 7-3 to Boghall.

The next time we could improve by communicating more and work more as a team.

Busy busy week in 6M!

We have had a busy P.E week! We started the week with Streetdance, had basketball mid-week and ended the week with Destination Judo!

In our reading groups we were learning about EVALUATING questions.  The Astronauts made a character profile and had to judge which ones were most suitable to comment on.  The Stars reading group created illustrations which would be suitable for a younger audience and assess which ones would be most important.  The Planets and the Moons were using our Bloom’s Bakery evaluation questions to discuss our reading books and give our opinion of them.  We found that it is quite hard to EVALUATE our work but we are going to enjoy practising 🙂

In art this week we created autumn trees using pastels and paper.  We had a little walk around the playground to look at the differences between the trees and we used this information to help us with the pictures.

This week in maths the Hexagons have been working on the i-pads and learning to subtract 4-digit numbers.

We learned about the ‘Curiosity Rover’ and its mission to Mars.  We found out that this rover is collecting rock samples and looking for ‘life on Mars!’…( not aliens!)

Achievements

Liam won a Bronze (patterns), Gold (sparring) and gold (high kick) in Tae Kwon Do!

Kieran T is practising to become a Rookie Lifeguard!

Trebuchet Terrors

This week we were set a Home Team Challenge. We had to design a trebuchet that could knock down a Jenga wall with the load of one marble.

We tested our trebuchets and made improvements where necessary.  Congratulations to The Sour Lemons who scored Level 3 damage by dislodging several bricks.

Here are some photos of us at work. Watch out King Edward!

Class 2

Another party in class 2. Callum will have a birthday on Sunday. We are not at school on a Sunday so we had a party on Friday. We made mini pizzas by pressing pasty cutters into a large pizza then cooking them. We ate the pizzas at the party. We played party games, danced and ate party food.
We have also have been learning lots. We are getting good at finding lines of symmetry, keeping safe on the Internet and writing stories.
Next week will be money focus week.

What a Busy Week in P4g!

This week we picked the potatoes we planted last year for our farming topic. We then learned how to peel potatoes and chop them. Together we made potato and leek soup with a special help from Mrs Jamieson. Thank you Mrs Jamieson! It was yummy!

We painted Autumn pictures using autumn colours…red, orange, green, brown and yellow. We included autumn animals and fallen leaves.

In maths we did problem solving in our problem solving trios. We used the strategy ‘draw a picture’ to solve the problem. This involved colouring flags in different ways using only four colours. We had to make sure no two flags matched. It was tricky at first however once we worked out a pattern it became easier.

During topic, we were learning about the invention of the aeroplane by the Wright Brothers. We learned that they faced three problems when inventing: flight, control and power. We were challenged to make paper airplanes looking at the structures of our planes e.g. body, wings, tail and folding. It was a competition to see whose one went the furthest, and Ben won! His was amazing!

Lastly, we had to invent our own food or drink and think of a catchy name and slogan for it. We made an advertising poster to advertise it. It made us feel pretty hungry afterwards!

This week’s Special Person is Sarah because:

  • She thinks about other people
  • She has amazing art skills
  • She is really kind
  • She always shares
  • She isn’t afraid to say something nice
  • She is lovely
  • She is super!
  • She has lovely manners
  • She is a good friend to me (Ben)
  • She makes people laugh
  • She always wants to play and plays nicely
  • She is very helpful
  • She is confident
  • She always looks out for people especially her friends
  • She has a lovely big smile
  • She is smart
  • She is extraordinary!

 Enjoy your weekend!

I’m very pleased to have awarded Step 3 stickers to several pupils this week. I know your teachers are very proud of you and I’m sure you are feeling proud of yourself too. It is great to see pupils around school wearing their Step 3 stickers. Congratulations.

Hope to see more Step 3 pupils next week.

Class 3 Love Reading

In class 3 we are reading the ‘World According to Humphrey’.  It’s a novel which we have purchased on ibooks on the ipad.  Mrs Stewart plugs the ipad into the smartboard so we can all see the pages as she reads them.

Geordie – It’s a really good story.  It’s cool to see it on the smartboard.

Josh – I like listening to the story.

Cary – The story is interesting and sometimes funny.

We have been practising our predicting skills.  Humphrey the hamster was taken to Mr Morale’s house.  He is the headmaster.  We predicted what he would do there.

Have a look at some of our predictions.

Cary – I liked predicting, especially because I got to draw my prediction.

Liam – I drew Humphrey biting the children.

We are enjoying reading the story and we are really looking forward to the next part.

Cary – It’s so exciting.  We always stop at exciting parts and I need to wait for the next bit.

P2E

We have had a very busy week. In our topic we have been learning about homes around the world. We built mud huts out of sand, tepees from art straws and stilted houses out of lego. We all really enjoyed learning about the different types of houses people live in. We also made collages of different kinds of houses using different materials.

In maths this week we have been learning more about symmetry and created out own symmetry pictures of houses and butterflies. Miss Elliot was very impressed with our pictures!

We all really enjoyed writing this week and we had to use describing words to write a story about a haunted house. We all had great ideas. Some stories had vampires, ghosts, wolves and even moving trees. This week our star writers were Cameron and Lucy. They had fantastic ideas!

Awards:

Pupil of the Week – Sam

Class Dojo pupil of the week – Keira

Drama award – Rachael Muir

What we enjoyed most this week in school:

Charlie – writing a scary story

Grace – writing a spooky story

Lotte – learning about numbers to 100

Gemma – 3D shapes and making symmetrical pictures

Lots of Fun in Class 1

We had lots of fun in the sensory room this week.  We discovered that some colours glow in the dark.  We played with neon balloons, glow sticks and fairy wands.  When we switched off the light and turned on the neon light we discovered lots of glow in the dark materials.  Our teeth were even glowing!

We have been working hard at maths time.  Jayden and Cameron like to use their froggy friend to help them with addition using a number line.  We have been adding our money, making sure that we have enough to buy the things that we want from our class shop.

We have been learning how to work as part of a team in class and at P.E.   Joe and Lewis worked well together to complete the Fireman Sam jigsaw!  The adults were very proud as it was a tricky 50 piece jigsaw.   The boys were pleased with their achievement.

Well done to Cameron who was given a medal for doing well at his Judo club!  We enjoyed looking at and learning about Cameron’s medal.  Look out for Cameron’s picture on the achievement display!

Our week in p7b

Biographies

Sophie M: This week we have been writing biographies. We got partnered up with someone else in the class and we interviewed them to find out details about their family, hobbies and when they were born.

Alexander: Next we collected quotes and we asked some people in the class for nice comments about the person we were writing about.

Dean: Then we wrote all of our information in the form of a biography. I enjoyed asking people what they thought of my partner.

Sophie M: I enjoyed finding out different facts about my partner.

Nicky: I found it strange reading about myself in someone else’s writing!

What else have we been up to this week?

Rabeea: I enjoyed starting the subtraction topic because it was a revision of what we’ve done and once in a while it is good to revise what you have learned before.

Louise: We’ve been finishing our USA map art pictures. It’s been challenging because it is tricky to draw the stars.

Declan: We had a team challenge about the US states. We had to try and memorise all the capitals and flags. We had to work together as a team to work out the best strategy.

Christopher S: We found out the parts for Cinderella Rockerfella and I’m happy for Isla and Hannah for getting the parts they wanted.

Who has impressed?

Declan: I’m impressed with Christopher because he got the part of Buttons.

Josh: I’m impressed with Callum for getting the part of Rocky 2.

Dean: I’m impressed with the other p7 class because they carried on with their assembly even though the projector stopped working.

Alistair: Fraser impressed me by getting the part of one of the ugly sisters.

Sophie M: Amber has impressed when she was writing my biography because she had lots of detail in it.

Mr Berginis: I’m very proud of the class for winning Mrs Innes’ class of the month and Louise for winning Mrs Innes’ pupil of the month.

Another Visit for P1…

This week we had another visit from Dennis the Dragon.  He left Little Red Riding Hood’s cloak and basket in our school car park.  We think he wanted us to find out all about the story of Little Red Riding Hood.  In class we made wanted posters for the wolf and discussed stranger danger. We really enjoyed decorating a basket and the challenge of making a handle strong enough to hold yummy biscuits.
