I’m a P2e, Get Me Out of Here!

We have had a very busy and quite unusual week! On Wednesday we had a “I’m a P2e Get Me Out of Here” challenge using all our five senses. Some of the activities were quite disgusting. We had five different challenges and we worked hard as a team to try and win stars. The five challenges were:

  • smell – we had to make a perfume.
  • sight – we had to describe as many pictures as we could and our team had to guess what we were describing.
  • sound – we had to draw sounds that we think we could hear if we were in a jungle.
  • taste – we had to eat worms, eyeballs and dead flies. (Don’t worry they weren’t real!)
  • touch – we had to put our hands into five different, disgusting boxes and try to grab stars.

We all had a really great time and our winning team were the Bright Sparks. They were pleased to win their medals and trophies!

Keira: “I really liked the touch activity and putting my hands in the boxes.”

Grace:”I liked tasting the eyeballs and worms!”

Also, we have had fun this week learning about shops. We turned our role play area into a supermarket. There is a cafe and a toy shop inside. We designed our own shops.

Ben:”I made a bucket shop like the shop in my favourite book, Billy’s Bucket.”

Aaron:”I made a butchers.”

On Thursday we went to the pantomime. We all had a great time.

Arran and Aaron liked the part when Aladdin was having a sword/light saber fight with the bad guy. Caitlin really enjoyed listening to all the songs. Cameron thought the policemen were very funny and Karys liked it when the genie gave Aladdin the magic ring.

Today we had our first Golden Club event. The children really enjoyed watching the movie and having their popcorn. Well done to everyone who made it into the Golden Club this term.

It is not long now until the Christmas holidays! We had our Christmas lunch on Wednesday and we all enjoyed eating our lunch together in the dining hall. We have decorated our class and put up our class tree and advent calendar.

Although we are excited for Christmas, we are still all working hard. We had our last drumming session wtih Daniel. We have all realy enjoyed learning to play the drums, but we are happy that Miss Elliot has learned how to use them too. We are going to keep using the drums in our learning.

We have been learning about our sense of touch. We know that the skin is covered with sensors and the most sensitive areas are our lips, tongue, hands and feet. We had to find different feels in the classroom. We didn’t like touching the slimy beans! We are finished our topic on senses and have learned a lot. Next week Miss Elliot has a surprise challenge for us involving the senses.

We have also been working hard with Mrs Innes and Miss Elliot to learn the songs for the Christmas service. We are looking forward to all the Christmas activities next week including the P1 Nativity and the Pantomime.

Well done to our winners this week in P2e:

Pupil of the Week – HollyClass Dojo – Keira

Tables of the Week – Whizz Kids and Brain Boxes

Drama award – Ben

See you next week!

The floor is covered in sequins and glitter so it must be Christmas Fayre time! We have been busy making Christmas tree decorations to sell on Saturday. We also made posters to advertise what we are selling and we talked about how to make the posters more exciting and encourage people to come over to our stall.

In our topic we have been learning about the sense of smell. We know that the nose sends messages to the brain about different smells and the brain remembers lots of different smells. Our noses also help to keep us safe. They can can smell signs of danger, for example, smoke from a fire.  We know that sometimes we can’t smell very well when we have a cold. We held our noses and tasted some different flavours of crisps to see if they tasted different. We definitely need our nose to help us taste too! Also, we had to guess different things by their smell. Some didn’t smell very nice. We are looking forward to finding out if our guesses were right!

We have been learning how to draw faces. We were looking carefully at our faces to see where the different features sit on our face. We found this quite tricky but we are getting better at sketching. We will let you see them once we are finished.

In writing we have been writing thank you letters to our drumming teacher Daniel. We have our last drumming class on Wednesday. We have really enjoyed using the drums and we are glad Miss Elliot has been learning how to teach us to play them.

What we think:

Keira: I enjoyed guessing the smells.

Grace: I liked learning how to draw a face.

Evie: I liked writing the thank you letters to Daniel.

P2e have had a very tasty week! We have been learning about our sense of taste. We know that our tastebuds help send messages to our brain to tell us what our food tastes like. We have also been learning about four different tastes your tongue can taste. These are bitter, salty, sweet and sour. We put our taste buds to the test this week. In one activity we had to guess the flavour of some different crisps and in another activity we were trying different foods and deciding if they were salty, sweet, sour or bitter. This was great fun! Next week we will be learning about our sense of smell and how it helps us to taste our food too.

We also designed a perfect sandwich with all our favourite foods. We wrote instructions about how to make this sandwich. We remembered to use different openers when writing instructions.

We have all worked hard in maths this week and can all identify missing numbers in sums. We are now ready to move on to subtraction next week.

Next week we are going to begin making our Christmas crafts for the fayre. Remember if you would like to make a personalised decoration please bring in the money on Monday.

We can’t believe it is Friday again!

This week we have been learning about our senses of hearing. We listened carefully to different sounds and tried to guess what they were. We also went on a sound walk to find out what sounds we could hear in the classroom and outside. We are also taking this activity home to find out what sounds we can hear in our house.

In writing we wrote fantastic poems using our senses. We imagined we were at a park and we wrote about what we could see, hear, feel, smell and taste. We used wonderful describing words in our writing.

In reading we have been using Steven Story to help us learn about the beginning, middle and end of stories. We read a story called Aliens Love Underpants and sequenced the story using alien masks and real pants! It was good fun.

On Thursday we went on a trip to the library. Some of the children chose some books to take home on their library card. If you would like a library card please fill in a yellow card and we can get a card on our next trip. We are going to the library on the 5th of December and are going to be involved in a vote for the Scottish Children’s Book Awards.

Awards:

Class Dojo: Mya and Caitlin

Star Pupil: Lucy for writing a fantastic poem.

We will find out the winners of Table of the Week on Monday.

We have had a very busy week but we have had lots of fun! This week we have been learning more about our five senses. We have been learning about sight and what happens if you don’t have your sense of sight. We experimented with magnifying glasses, optical illusions and were blindfolded. We also made sensory pictures that blind people can feel. Next week we are going to write our names in braille. We are really enjoying playing in our new hospital too.

Also, this week we have been learning to add within 20. We are all really good at using a numberline to help us work out these tricky sums!

On Wednesday we had a very busy day. Before break time we were learning to punch and kick in karate and after break time we were learning how play the drums. We are looking forward to our future drum workshops.

Holly – I really enjoyed playing the drums. It was good fun!

Evie – I really liked karate and learning how to move quickly.

Cameron – I liked making the sensory pictures using lots of different materials.

We have had a very busy and fun start to the new term. We have been busy planning what we are going to learn about this term. Our new topic is all about the five senses. We can already name the five senses but we want to find out a little about how they work and what happens if you don’t have some of the senses. We enjoyed using Mr Potato head to match the senses to the correct body parts. We have also decided to turn our role play area into a hospital to help us learn more about the five senses and the body.

We had our Shared Start on Wednesday morning. We were showing parents some of our literacy activities. Some children spent this time in the writing area creating their own scary stories. Rachael, Ellis, Evie and Molly wrote some great stories which we shared during milk and story time. Some stories even used an ellipsis … and BOLD text to make the scary words really stand out.

This week we have enjoyed taking part in some halloween themed activites. Grace was pleased to be the winner of our ‘design a pumpkin’ competition. She drew a great picture and we put her deisgn on a pumpkin which she took home for halloween. We all really enjoyed dressing up for halloween and had some brilliant costumes on!

We have had a very busy week in primary two. We really enjoyed our visit to the library this week. We enjoyed looking at different books and sharing the stories with our friends. We were very well behaved and the librarian is looking forward to us visiting again soon! We also enjoyed having a go at judo this week and lots of us now want to join a judo club.

In reading we have been learning about rhyme, but it didn’t take us alot of time. We had fun spotting words that were the same and turned our learning into a game!

In our topic this week we have been learning about animals and their homes. We can name lots of diferent types of houses animals live in. We also worked with a partner to create animals homes in shoe boxes. Kaitlin and Gemma decided we should call them shoe box zoos! We used materials to make the animal homes very realistic. Some children children made jungles and others made oceans and the grasslands of Africa.

Here are some examples. Don’t they look great?!

P2E

We have had a very busy week. In our topic we have been learning about homes around the world. We built mud huts out of sand, tepees from art straws and stilted houses out of lego. We all really enjoyed learning about the different types of houses people live in. We also made collages of different kinds of houses using different materials.

In maths this week we have been learning more about symmetry and created out own symmetry pictures of houses and butterflies. Miss Elliot was very impressed with our pictures!

We all really enjoyed writing this week and we had to use describing words to write a story about a haunted house. We all had great ideas. Some stories had vampires, ghosts, wolves and even moving trees. This week our star writers were Cameron and Lucy. They had fantastic ideas!

Gemma – 3D shapes and making symmetrical pictures

P2e

This week we have been learning about how to build houses. We know the different people we need to help build a house and we put the stages into the correct order. We also have been learning how to write instructions and used different openers to write instructions about how to build a house. In topic we have also been learning about how to sell houses. We designed our own posters and have turned part of our role play area into an estate agents.

We have been having fun in maths this week as we have been learning about symmetry. We have been painting symmetrical pictures and have been cutting out different symmetrical patterns.

Molly: I enjoyed music this week. We were using instruments to follow the beat of some different songs.

Lucy: I enjoyed writing in my review jotter this week. I said that I have been learning about capital letters and full stops.

Freddie: I have been learning about symmetrical shapes. I made a symmetrical bat!

P2e

Although it has only been a short week at school we have all been working very hard. We have been learning about 3D shapes and patterns. We have been making shapes out of playdough.

Also, each family in the class won a competition to build their own dream house. We designed our own dream house and in writing we were learning to use wow words to describe our houses.

We have been talking about things we find difficult in school and have recorded this in our review jotters.

We all really enjoyed the onsie walk and are feeling fit and healthy. We think everyone in school looked fantastic in their onesies, especially the teachers!

Our Week in Primary 2e

We have had a great week in primary 2e. We have all been working very hard and are settling in to the school routine. This week we started our topic called Houses and Homes. We have been learning about different types of houses. We also read the story of the Three Little Pigs and decided to build our own houses. We used lots of different materials and used a fan to see whether or not they would blow down. Most of the houses managed to stay up!

We have also been learning about characters in stories and we read a story called the Gruffalo. It was very funny when Reece dressed up as the Gruffalo!

Let’s hear from the kids:

Rachel and Lucy: We were very proud to win table of the week last week and are going to keep trying hard to win buttons for our table!

Charlie: We have been having lots of fun this week and I have learned lots of things. I really like Golden Time too!

Health and Fitness in P2pg

This week we were learning lots of things about health and fitness.  We learned about what healthy living means, what we need to do to keep healthy and we made posters to show all these things.  We learned about how food keeps us healthy, how our body digests food and how it takes the goodness out of the food for our body.  We also looked at how this goodness helps our body to grow strong.  On Tuesday we were helped by the P7’s to do lots of activities outside – which we really enjoyed.  Our sports day was great and we all enjoyed the different races, even when we didn’t think we would enjoy them!  An instructor came in and we learned lots of different skills for basketball – which was really great!

With Ms Gavin we learned skills in Curling and Golf!  We also made medals for taking part in our first week of the Health and Fitness fortnight, which meant we were all winners for taking part!

Friday was also really exciting when we met our new teachers for next year.  We are a bit sad that we are getting split up but excited that we will make new friends!

We also continued learning about friendships and how to disagree nicely with each other, we now need to practice this lots in class and in the playground!  Our learning about friendships will help us with our new classes next year.

Well done P2pg.

This week in P2pg

This week we have been building our Eco Houses in class.  We remembered all the things that make a house Eco friendly and put some of these ideas into our houses.  We drew and made roof gardens for vegetables, showers instead of baths, solar panels and made lots of windows to conserve energy in the home.  Drew low flush toilets, composting toilets, rainwater barrels and compost heaps.  They were great Eco Houses!

In our writing we have been creating stories about the Mountain that appeared at the bottom of our gardens.  These were great and we like writing imaginitive stories, so much so that some of us are now writing our own little books and sharing these as Show and Tell.

We continued learning about Friendships through stories.  We listened to Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper and found out about our feelings when we get upset and fall out with friends.  We also started to make a ‘friendship mat’ which we can use to when we are trying to work out problems with others.

Well done P2pg for another good week.

This week in P2pg

This week we enjoyed writing about the little cottage and the wizard that appeared at the bottom of our gardens!  We were able to think of lots of describing words to use in our story and it was fun when we were able to use characters and things from stories we already knew.  Some of us used our reading books (The Shiny Key) some of us used traditional tales like Alice in Wonderland or Sleeping Beauty.  We used all these to make the middle and end of our stories.  Ms Gavin thought they were fantastic.

We also enjoyed making ‘For Sale’ posters for our Eco Houses and it was great to see more of the Eco Houses from the Web.  We are going to build our Eco Houses next week so we need to bring in boxes (shoe box size)!

We are all doing well in our reading and we enjoy the traditional tales and stories from Ms Gavin.

Well done P2pg for another good week.

News from P2pg

This week we continued our focus on re-writing our traditional tales by re-writing Little Red Riding Hood.  We also thought of good describing words and coloured in pictures of the story which we enjoyed doing at our Shared Start on Wednesday.

We listened to the story of The Rainbow Fish and decorated our own rainbow fish.  The story helped us think of different things that help us make and be good friends with others.  Then we wrote all these things on our rainbow fish pictures.

In RE we continued our looking at different faiths by learning about Buddhism.  We listened to the story of the first Buddha and learned about some of his teachings.  We thought that some of these things were things we were learning about in Cool in School and Friendships in our Health and Wellbeing work.  For instance being kind to others, not hurting others with what we do or what we say, working hard and looking after others.  Then we tried out some meditation!

In PE we are learning about Handball and this week Mr Jeffries got us to ‘dribble’ the ball and move around the hall to get used to this before we move on to passing and playing the game.  It was good fun!

Well done P2pg for another good week.

This week in P2pg

This week we thought about all the things we learned through Cool in School, which helps us with our friendships.  Some of the children comments included …

“You know how people are feeling by looking at their face and their body language.” Skye

“Respect other children.” Robyn

“Own up to your mistakes.” Jennie

“If you hit someone you should say sorry.” Callum

“If you take something that doesn’t belong to you, give it back.” Gary

“Care for your friends.” Lucy

Over the next few weeks we are going to look further into building good friendships with others.

We also learned about Eco Houses and all the things that help we can do in our homes to help care for our environment.  The children designed their Eco houses on paper and we hope we can make some of these from junk materials (recycled ones of course).

Of course this all tied in nicely with our Grounds awareness day and the raising of the Green Flag today.  What an exciting day!  The children loved the stalls, the story and the picnic – even the cold didn’t put us off.

Well done P2pg.
