P2e

We have had a fantastic week in P2e. We were so busy on Friday we didn’t have time to post our blog. We have really enjoyed the start to Fitness Fortnight. We have tried kurling and we all really enjoyed trying to reach the target. Holly and Ben were very good and scored lots of points! We also went to gymnastics and we got to balance on hte beam. It was great fun! On Wednesday we had Sports Day. We all enjoyed taking part in the races. We all tried our best and congratulated each other. Well done to everyone who won medals!

We were also learning about how to keep fit and healthy. We know it is important to exercise as it strengthens your heart and other muscles. We have learned that breathing is really important as it helps make your muscles work harder. We also spoke about keeping ourselves clean. If we wash our hands regularly we are more likely to stay fit and healthy. We looked at germs and how easily they can be passed on. We now know a song we can sing when washing our hands.

Finally, on Friday we had a super time at the fun fair. We really enjoyed the bouncy castle and the slide. We really enjoyed throwing the sponges at the teachers. Caitlin hit Mrs Haddifon in the face! We hope Mrs Waddell had a good day and we will miss her.

We are looking forward to next week and taking part in more sporting activities.

See you next week!

Wow!! What a week we have had in P2g! We are just back from an amazing time at our Mini FunFair to mark Mrs Waddell’s retirement. Thank you to everyone who arranged and organised it, it was definately a class highlight!

Here are some comments:

It was the best ever!! James
The amazingest thing!! Ben
Mr Welsh and Miss Henderson are the best for doing this! Emma
This is the best school ever! Evan
I loved my shot on the bouncy castle! Mrs Haddifon
I loved it when Mrs Haddifon got soaked at Soak The Teacher! Baillie

We have also been busy with our Health and Fitness Fortnight and have had our Sport’s Day, where Ava Campbell and James Jackson won medals. A big 2g congratulations to them!
We went to Gymnastics, had football coaching and played Kurling in the TA Hall. And then we learned about how much sugar is in different foods. Did you know there is more sugar in a packet of Skittles than in a whole Happy Meal with a Cola?
And after all that we even found time to enjoy the sunshine and chalk our spelling words in the playground! Oh and we had our Shared Start where we made yearbooks to record our memories of being in our busy Primary 2 class!!

We have also been decorating our class and corridor to celebrate our flower girls, so a huge thank you to Mrs Knotman for her help.
We are off to have a rest this weekend, ready for next week when we are making smoothies, doing T’ai Chi, and hopefully getting to take our Cress home.

P2e

We have has a very busy week in Primary 2. We have been doing some important work on the computers this week so we joined up with primary 2g. We worked with p2g to make kites and spent some time in the afternoon outside flying our kites. We also made a primary 2 year book. We wrote about all the things we have done in primary 2 and shared what we liked to do in school and in the playground.

We are enjoying learning about weather. We watched a weather forecast and learned about the different symbols in weather forecasts. We are working in groups to create our own weather forecasts for the U.K and are going to perform these to the class. We also created a weather display. We worked in groups to create big pictures for our wall. We all love Frozen so we created some of the characters to go in our snow scene.

In French we have been learning about animals. We are able to say the names of quite a lot of animals. Can you guess what these animals are?

un poission rouge? un oiseau? un chien? un lapin?

See you next week! Remember to wear your sports clothes for Fitness Fortnight!

P2e

This week we have been busy learning more about our new topic on weather. We have turned our castle into a weather news station where we can change the weather forecast and pretend we are news reporters on t.v. There is also a science lab where we can pretend to do weather experiments. Over the next couple of weeks we will be addingd to our role play area. We learned about different types of weather and in which season you would normally see that weather. We then had to design clothes for Weather Teddy to wear in each season. In art we chose our favourite type of weather and painted a weather landscape picture. We had to mix different colours of paint to create different shades.

In language this week we have been learning all about non-fiction books. We know that we read these books for information and that these books usually have a contents page, glossary and index page. We are enjoying reading our non-fiction books for homework. We have also been learning more about the alphabet and learned a song to help us remember the five vowels. In our writing we were explaining what job we would like to do and why. We had lots of different jobs including zoo keepers, astronauts, scientists, ice cream van drivers and builders.

We really enjoyed assembly today and we all liked the Japanese fan dance and the Tai Chi.

Hope you all have a nice long weekend!

P2e

We have has a busy week back at school. We all shared our news from the Easter holidays and we all had lots of fun during the holidays!  In maths we are starting to learn about time. This week we practised our days of the weeks and months of the year by singing songs and we learned how many days are in each month. We are trying to learn a poem to help us remember.

In our writing this week we imagined we had a magic school bus which could take us anywhere. Some people went under the sea, inside computers and back in time. We used great describing words in our stories to describe the places we visited.

In art we have been making our poppies for the float. We used red paper to decorate the poppies and we wrote a special message in the middle of the poppy explaining why there is no place like Balbardie. We also were painting ‘Sunflowers’ by Vincent Van Gogh. We copied his style and painted one sunflower each to make a big class picture.

We are starting our new topic on weather and we shared what we already know and what we want to find out. We want to turn our play area into a science lab and a weather news station.

We have been learning about our rights. We know we have the right to an education, to play and to know about our rights. We discussed the rights at the Big Balbardie Blether and we designed a certificate for the Rights Respecting Ranger of the Month.

P2g and P2e Stirling Castle Trip

On Thursday P2e and P2g went on a school trip to Stirling Castle. We have been busy learning all about castles and were very excited to visit a real castle.

We explored the castle and we got to visit the great kitchens. We were able to name lots of the different kinds of foods they would have had at a banquet. We visited the banquet hall and some of us got to sit in the thrones at the table. We visited the palace and explored the rooms belonging to the King and Queen. In the palace we met a man who looked after the castle for the King and a chambermaid who served the Queen. They told us lots of information about the King and Queen.

We also had a workshop where we learned more about castle life. We got to see clothes and weapons used during medieval times. Rhuan and Ben dressed up in the jester costumes. Miss Elliot and Mrs Haddifon think they suited the boys perfectly! We also got to see the different armour that a knight would wear. We all tired to pick up the chain mail but it was really heavy!

We all really enjoyed our visit to the castle and would love to go back!

It has been a very busy term and Miss Elliot and Mrs Haddifon would like to thank all the boys and girls for working so hard and thank you to all the families for supporting the children throught the term.

Hope you all enjoy the holidays! See you in 2 weeks!

P2g

First of all thank you to everyone who came along to Skellybones!  We really enjoyed all our rehearsals and our performance. A huge thank you to Mrs Innes for all her hard work and creativity – we can’t wait for our next show!

In between rehearsals this week we found some time for writing using our describing words.  We got a visit from a mystery bear, and we had to ask him questions to find out which story he came from.  We put on our story detective hats and found out he came from Goldilocks and the three bears.  He helped us write about him.  In fact he liked us so much he is going to stay a while and help us get even better at writing.  He doesn’t like being called Baby Bear all the time though,  so next week we are going to have a naming challenge.  Ava Wood even said we could get him clothes and take turns to take him home – so you never know you might be getting a visitor some time soon….

Another success in reading saw the Foxes move up a level – they have been working very hard so a massive WELL DONE!! to them.

We completed our entries for the Highland Games Art Competition as well this week.  The theme was ‘My Scotland now’, and we all came up with great ideas from Stirling Castle to Katie Morag to Football.  Oh and talking of Stirling Castle, that’s our next stop.  We are all really excited about our trip there on Thursday and are going to try hard not to get locked in the Dungeons! Please remember we will need a packed lunch for that day, and also a waterproof jacket  might come in handy – just in case…….

And finally our Pupil of the Week is Olivia Briody – congratulations to you!!

Happy Mother’s Day to all our mummies!

P2g

Lots of success again this week, with five new entrants into the Golden Club and four pupils reaching stage 4.  We have been working really hard on listening and putting our hand up to ask questions.

We completed our Sport Relief challenge in record time, and learned about what Sport Relief is about and how we are helping other children.  We also got lots of yummy cakes at the Bake Sale. A great effort by all children, we are all very proud of ourselves!

We read Zog this week and used the story to write about him.  We worked hard to describe Zog and remember our beginning, middle and end.  We are going to be practising a lot of this so that we can get our work onto our ‘Super Story Wall’.

A huge thank you to all our families who helped us with our Castle challenge.  The Castles are all fabulous and we love playing with them.  We will have our photographs for next week.

See you at Mr Skellybones!!

A spooky week in P2e

We have had a very strange week in P2e. On Thursday morning Miss Elliot found a dirty piece of paper in our castle. It was a letter from a knight called Eric. We think Eric might have been a ghost who died in battle. We are really excited but also confused about how he got here. We decided to try and catch him on camera. We have left a camera on in the castle to see if he comes back. We also wrote letters back to Eric to find out more about him and to find out more about knights. We will let you know what we find out!

This week we have been busy creating lots of art work . We have designed pictures of the main characters from the Wizard of Oz for the float. The winner will get to have their picture used on the float. We all hope our picture gets chosen. We have also been working on our sketching skills and sketched pictures of Stirling Castle. We found out about jousting and create moving jousting pictures.

This week we have been working very hard in language. In our reading we have been using the book Zog. We were discussing the meaning of different words. We were looking for words in the text that we could change and thinking of words that mean the same thing. For example: “What a great idea” said Zog – We had ideas to change ‘great’ to super, wonderful, fantastic, fabulous and many more! Also, we have been learning about verbs this week and listened to the verb rap. We now know that a verb is an ‘action word’. In our writing we were finishing our dragon stories. We are getting very good at writing stories with a beginning, middle and end.

In our castles topic we have been learning about the people who lived in castles and the types of jobs they had. We know that there were servants, cooks and knights in a castle. Also there is a gong farmer and nonbody would like to have his job. He cleaned out the toilets!

We also know that a knight needs to a crest to let other people know who he is. We found out what different colours and symbols mean on the crests and designed our own.

We have been working hard on our class weekly targets over the last 4 weeks and today we received our class prize. We got two greens and two ambers on our targets overall so we got to have 15 minutes extra golden time today! Next time we hope to get all greens and get the bigger prize!

We are still practising our Skellybones and are looking forward ot the performance. Remember to return your slips. Also, the letters for our trip to Stirling Castle went out this week and we are all excited about learning more about castle life during an interactive handling session. Please remember to return the slips as soon as possible.

James – I like learning about groups of things in Maths.

Finn – My mum helped me make my Tin Man costume, it was good.

We loved drawing our Wizard of  Oz pictures for the Float Competition.  It was great fun and we listened to the Wizard of Oz music while we drew. We were not impressed by Mrs Haddifon’s impression of the Cowardly Lion though…….

We are getting very excited about Mr Skellybones and can’t wait to show it to you all.  Some of us have still to return our ticket slips though.

We also took home our trip letters and are looking forward to touring Stirling Castle and dressing up in their costumes as we love drssing up in our class!

P2e

This week we have been very busy finishing our castle. We now have a dungeon with a dragon and a treasure chest and a banquet table with a jester to entertain us. We enjoy playing in our castle but we have to be careful when going in because there is a crocodile in our moat!

We have been learning about the features of a castle and can name some parts of the building such as the drawbridge and the arrow slits. We now know why were castles were built and how the different parts helped to keep them safe from an enemy attachk.

In writing this week we have started a new story about a dragon. We are reading the story ‘Zog’ and it gave us some great ideas about dragons. Miss Henderson came down to read our Detective Granny stories and was very impressed with our story writing.

In maths we are starting to look at multiplication. We are learning how to count groups of objects.

We all really enjoyed the open morning today. We created self portraits for the banquet hall in our castle. The adults that came to visit our class helped us to use different materials. Thank you very much to everyone who came along and we hope ou enjoyed yourself!

P2g

This week we were busy building our castle and fireplace.  We have been learning why and how castles were built and what the different parts are called.  We also turned ourselves into Kings and Queens and made our portraits during our Open Morning.  Thanks to all Parents who came along and helped us, we hope you enjoyed it!

In Phonics we were visited by the Phonics Ball and we had great fun learning our tricky words.  Mrs Haddifon was really pleased with our Spelling this week and can see progress in us all.

P2G

First of all an apology for the lack of blog last week.We had a slight technical hitch (Mrs Haddifon pressed the wrong button!). Anyway we have had another jam-packed week in 2g with lots of exciting learning happening! Not only is there building work happening outside, our classroom has become a building site too, with the construction of Bathgate’s latest place of interest – Balbardie Castle. We are learning all about castles in our new topic and can’t wait to play in the one we are building in the class. Apologies for the amount of grey paint on uniforms (we did wear aprons!), but we had a great time being creative.

Every Monday our magic cauldron gives us new spelling words to practise for the week and leaves us task cards with different games to carry out.

Mrs Innes has reported that we are doing well with Mr Skellybones and we are looking forward to performing it for you all.

Everyone met their targets this week and got the chance to buy from our class toy shop if they had saved up enough.

P2e

We have had a very busy 2 weeks in school. Our new topic is Castles and we have decided to build our own castle in the classroom. We have started painting the castle walls. Next week we wilbe making more things for the castle.

This week we finsihed our Detective Granny stories. Evedry story has a beginning, middle and end. Miss Elliot thinks our work is so wonderful that Miss Henderson is going to come to read our stories!

We have been practsing our Mister Skellybones performacne and we now know all our songs, dances and words! Sam thinks practising the show is really fun. Karys really likes her lines for the show and has worked hard to learn them all!

We have also been working hard to acheive our class target. This week we have been trying to line up in a 4S line. Our line should be still, silent, straight and smiling. We are now very good at lining up.

Here are some extracts from our writing about Detective Granny:

Karys: Detective Granny was chasing the robber when she saw a crocodile. She got her rope and lasooed the crocodile. She pulled the crocodile closer and it ate the robber. Detective Granny got her money back and bought a cat.

Leia: Detective Granny shot the criminal’s car. The tyre was smashed. Now she could sneak in the boot. She did and got the money.

P2G

We have been very busy in P2g this week!  We have learned  a lot about money and how to use it, and have done lots of good learning in our shop.  Following on from decorating our Gingerbread Men, we have been writing stories about him.

For UNICEF Day For Change 2014, we heard about Angita and learned what happened to her when a cyclone hit her house.

Next week we are very excited about our new magic cauldron which will help us with our spelling.

P2e

This week we have been doing lots of mental maths. Our favourtie game is Harry Potter maths. We enjoy challenging each other and we are getting much quicker at adding within 20. We have also been practising our spelling words every morning as we know this is one of our main targets this term.

On Wednesday morning we had our Shared Start. Thank you to everyone who came along to see what we have been learning. We were showing our parents the different ways we can practise our spelling words and tricky words.

This week we have been learning about electricity. We now know where electricity comes from and how we can stay safe in our homes and school. We know not to touch electrical items when our hands are wet and never touch a light bulb.

On Thursday we went to the library to vote for our favourite book. We listened to three stories and then had to choose our favourite.

We all had a great time performing in our assembly. Miss Elliot is very proud of us and was very impressed with our performance. We had a big audience as lots of parents, grandparents and other family members and friends came along to see us!

As well as practising for our assembly, we have worked hard in other areas. We have been learning more about Scotland and some famous people who come from Scotland. We recognised a few famous faces such as Susan Boyle and Andy Murray. Freddie even recognised William Wallace. We learned a lot about Robert Burns and listened to a recital of ‘Address to a Haggis’. We all enjoyed dancing to Auld Lang Syne.

We have been busy this week learning more about Scotland. We were looking at a map of Scotland to see where Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Livingston and Bathgate are. We have also been learning some Scots words. We read some stories and poems with Scots words including the Gruffalo in Scots. We have now created our own Scots dictionary. Some of the words we have in it are ‘breeks’ which means trousers and ‘muckle’ which means big.

We have also been working hard in out writing. We were writing a story about Katie Morag. We had to have a clear beginning, middle and end in our story. We found this quite tricky at first and we are going to keep working on our story writing this term.

We have been learning about a famous Scottish artist called Charles Rennie Mackintosh. We liked his designs and shapes he used, but some of us did not like the colours he used in his artwork. We creaated our own art pieces in his style. I think you will agree that they look fantastic!
