It’s movie time!

Class M went to the cinema this week to watch The Angry Birds movie as part of our Out and About programme.

IMG_0818 IMG_0819 IMG_0820

Adam – I liked the cinema because we were watching the Angry Birds movie. I liked it when the pigs came to bird island, they acted like they wanted to be friends with the birds but they actually wanted to steal their eggs. The pigs set up a party for the birds as a distraction so the pigs could steal the eggs and destroy the birds houses.

Joe – I went to the cinema it was good fun. I sat beside Caitlin and walked down with Mrs Mallin. The funny part of the film was mighty eagle doing the toilet in the water I laughed. I picked haribos for my snack they tasted good, the eggs were my favourite because they were fried. I also had water to drink.

Dylan – I enjoyed doing the sock bubbles. I used bottles, socks and washing up liquid. I put the sock on the bottle and put it into the washing up liquid, I then blew into the sock and it made long bubbles on the ground.

It’s festival time!

This week we all experienced a summer festival in the Sensory Room with Mrs Henderson. We listened to different types of music and chilled out on deck chairs. We also learned how to make our own smoothies. We hope you like our pictures:

IMG_0455IMG_0453
Dylan – I made a raspberry smoothie. It was in a cup with a curly straw. I haven’t been to a real festival before.

Joe – Me and David were at a pretend festival with Mrs Henderson and we were drinking smoothies. The smoothies were made with banana, milk and ice cream they tasted good. We also played with the bubbles it was fun.

Adam – I liked playing in telly tubby land. I got rocks and me and Dylan took it over. We built a den. It was cool.

Healthy Eating in Class M

This week in class we have been learning about the fruit and vegetable section of the eatwell plate. Over one quarter of our diet should be fruit and veg.

Everyone tasted fruits and gave their opinion. Aiden, Adam and Dylan loved the pomegranate. It was a new fruit for a lot of us to taste.

Adam – I made pomegranate juice. I picked out all the seeds then Mrs Mallin took them home to blend them. It was a nice drink.

Dylan – I liked the taste of pomegranate. It was delicious. It tasted juicy and it popped in my mouth.

Then we made lentil soup using lots of fresh ingredients.

Cary – I’m not looking forward to tasting the soup.

Joe – The soup was great. It was smooth. It had carrrots, onion, potato, lentils and ham stock cube. It smells like smoky bacon crisps. The onions made my eyes water.

We all agreed that we are going to try and eat more fruit and vegetables each day.

Class M have a Ramadan supper

This week in RME we learned about Sawm which is one of the Pillars of Islam. Muslims must fast for one month which means they can not eat during the day time. They get up very early to eat (sometimes 4am!) and then can’t eat again until after sunset. This month is called Ramadan. Children under 12 do not need to fast as they are too young. In our class Cary would have to fast this year as he is now 12.

We closed the blinds and switched off the lights in class to pretend it was night time, then we had a supper  of chicken curry, rice, nan bread and poppadums. Everyone enjoyed the feast!

Here are our highlights form the week:

IMG_0358

Dylan – I Liked looking at the x-rays on the ribs and the elbows to see if the bones were broken. The indian food I tasted for ramadan was so good, my favourite was poppadoms, chicken curry and nan bread.

IMG_0361

Adam – I liked when I went outside and played with the hailstones. It was really fun using chalk and doing my spelling words outside on the ground. I liked being outside at movement time with Cary we played football and Mrs Mallin was really really slow!!

IMG_0364n

Joe – I enjoyed making a map with Mrs Spence. I dipped tea bags into coffee and used the tea bags to put on the paper to make it look old. I tasted rice and it was great. I also had poppadoms and chicken curry this is some of the foods that muslims have at ramadan.

Summer is round the corner!

With all the lovely weather we had last weekend we were feeling rather summery in Class M. For Out and About we decided to go to Kelly’s ice cream shop as a special end of term treat. We all brought money in from home and had a look online at what types of things they sell and how much they cost. Everyone had £3 to spend so we had to work out if we could afford our purchase and whether or not we would get any change. We all chose very carefully and ordered independently. The adults were very pleased with everyone’s polite manners and behaviour in the shop. Most of us chose cones with 2 scoops and a flake. Aiden wanted a snow cone, and Adam bought sweets. Even the adults treated themselves to a cone!

Happy Easter everyone!

Expressive Arts in Class M

This week we have been enjoying lots of expressive arts activities. We thought about who is in our family and created our own family trees. We found out everone’s families are different.

IMG_0237 IMG_0245

Joe – I was painting a hand.  First one was green, blue. I made a mistake with the third one.

IMG_0246

In spelling we also got creative by spelling out our words in paint.

IMG_0229 IMG_0231 IMG_0233 IMG_0234 IMG_0235

In literacy some of us have been creating our own fact files of topics we are interested in. We are researching, taking notes, finding interesting and important facts, and typing our finding on the computer. We hope to share our fact files with other classes once they are finished.

Cary – This week I hope I get extra time on the computer so I can look at Star Wars Images. I like droids better than robots, they are much cooler. I am going to make a fact file avout the AAT-1.
Dylan – My fact file is about The Simpsons. Homer says ‘D’oh!’ I started it because I found a picture. I don’t know what I will write next.

A Victorian Tea Party

This week in Class M we held a Victorian tea party. We all helped to prepare the food, including cakes and sandwiches, then we sat down together with Class O to enjoy it. Here are our thoughts on the tea party.

Joe – The victorian tea party we had was awesome. I was called Benjamin and enjoyed the jam sandwich and cake we had.

Dylan – I made a cake for the victorian tea party. It had chocolate and white icing on it and chocolate sprinkles it tasted yummy.

Adam – I missed the tea party because I was off, but I’m going to make cakes today for Golden Time today instead.

Cary – I think it’s a bad idea to cut the crusts off the sandwiches and that’s where all the nutrients are.

Class M and O visit the Bennie Museum

On Thursday we went Out and About to the Bennie Museum to find out more about our Victorians topic. The museum was very in interesting and we got to touch and look at lots of things.

Aiden – I liked the pinball game. You had to pull a metal bit and the ball went up. I scored 150!

Adam – I liked the pinball too. You pulled the launcher and the ball shot. When I shot the ball it kept bouncing out the 150.

Caitlin – We had to do a dectective sheet where we had to guess what everything was from years ago. We found a belower. We played with old toys.

Joe – I was riding a Chopper. It’s a kind of bike. It had 3 wheels on it.

Cary – I didn’t like the museum because I would have liked to look at more weapons, but it was mostly Victorian stuff.

Dylan – I saw a piano. I was in the toy museum. It was a small one. I played the piano.

We would recommend a visit to this museum. It’s local and it’s free!

Playing Rounders in the ARB

Adam: “The rules of rounders are:

There are hitters. There are fielders.

The hitters hit the ball. The feilders try to get the ball and give it back to Mr Jeffries or tig a person from the other team when they are running.

If you are a hitter and you go on a spot you are safe.

If Mr Jeffries gets the ball or someone gets tigged, they are out. No points!

It is a very good game. I was good at being a feilder because I went close to  where people hit the ball, this meant I could catch the ball quickly. Aiden was close to the batter too. We made a good team.”

Cary: “I played rounders at playtime this week. I didn’t enjoy it because some people on my team didn’t know the rules. Cody was a good teammate. He followed the rules.”

Christmas is coming to Class M

On Monday it was a special day. Monday was St. Andrews Day. Says Dylan.

We watched a clip on the smartboard about St Andrew, then thought about what it means to be Scottish.

St. Andrew was a fisherman says Joe.

Adan said “We ate haggis because it is Scottish. St. Andrew was Scottish.”

Cary and Aiden did not like the haggis so the just ate oatcakes instead.

In Class M this week for our writing we learned about: Advent.

Below the children tell us 1 fact about advent:

Dylan: “Advent has 4 Sundays before Christmas!”

Joe: “People get advent caledars and have to find a number of the day to open. Sometimes there is chocolate inside. I have a candycane advent calendar.”

Cary: “Advent is the time leading up to Christmas. We count down the days in December”.

Everyone is looking forward to the next few weeks leading up to Christmas. We are excited to take part in lots of fun events such as the panto, disco and Christmas Lunch.

Igloo fun in Class M!

This week Class M have spent a lot of time preparing for the Christmas Fayre. Firstly we were the production team, and made all the items to sell. Then we had to price the items and make sure we were going to make a profit.

We are really looking forward to selling all our hard work and hope that everyone will come along on Saturday between 10 and 12.

Caitlin “this week we made an igloo for the christmas fayre and we made baubles and we put glitter on them. This week we had PE and miss muirhead came to PE with us for the first time in forever.”

IMG_0777

Dylan: “We’ve been making an igloo for the Christams Fayre. It’s in the Gym Hall. It’s made out of milk bottles. The glue gun sticks the milk bottles together. I made a bauble. We had to design it.”

IMG_0785

Adam: “I had lots of fun building the igloo this week and it was really funny when there was a leak and Dylan had to fix it! It was funny because he didn’t know which one it was leaking.”

Joe: “We’ve been making an igloo and it’s awesome! I’ve not been inside it yet. At the fayre it costs 50p to go inside and get your photo taken”

Other news from our week:

Dylan: “At swimming I done a mushroom in the swimming pool. You have to bend your knees and curl up on top of the water. Then you sink. This week I helped to build an igloo out of milk bottles. I liked using the glue gun. The igloo is awesome! Come along to the Christmas fayre and you can get a photograph inside the igloo for 50p!”

Callum: “I enjoyed snack this week. It has been great. I have tried pineapple. I like cheese and ham on my toast or sandwich. This is yummy. I made Christmas bags for toys to go in. I made 2. They will be on sale at the fayre. They are really cool.”

Class M

In science we have been learning about batteries. We found out that it is a chemical reaction inside the battery that gives us the energy. We made our own fruit batteries using a lemon to light a bulb. The acid in the lemon reacts with the copper and zinc.

IMG_0736 IMG_0734

This week it was very windy outside and we had lots of fun with the leaves in the playground.

IMG_0722IMG_0723

Adam: “It was really fun at playtime because the wind made a leaf tornado. The leaves went everywhere when it stopped!

Dylan: “In the playground there were lots of leaves. We played a game with the bucket blast buckets. The aim of the game was to stop Callum from taking your leaves. You had to run away from him. I liked the game. This week I created my own Didbook profile. I have my own email address and made me own password. When I log in to Didbook it says “Hello Dylan” I think this is good.

IMG_0737

Joe: “Me and my friend from Armadale Primary were playing with the guitar and telling jokes. He made me laugh. We made decorations for the Christmas fayre for our writing. We had to write instructions on how to make a bauble. It was fun!”

Cary: “This week I have enjoyed making some shapes out of nets. I’ve made a 3D triangle and a 3D rectangle. I like cutting them out and trying to figure out how they go together.”

Class M’s Island Adventure

Class M have been working with Mrs Innes in Expressive Arts. She asked us to design an island and present our design to the class. Here are some facts about our islands.

Aiden – My island has some defences. The rocks are made out of titanium. The grass is where you find the monsters. I had to stand up and tell everyone about my island.

Joe – My island has got different houses, fields, rivers and mountains. I drew a key outside it. It means you have to write outside it. It labels the things.

Dylan – The island has 2 houses and a military base with nuclear bunker. Around the island is water and fish in the water. There is an area where you can fish.

Caitlin – On my map there is a Disney Princess castle. There is a river with some lily pads, a tree house and a swimming pool with water slide. It has lots of different coloured houses.

Adam – My island has 8 main houses and defences and a flying transformer. It can camoflauge into anything, drive on the land, fly in the air and drive on water. It can also go invisible. I enjoyed showing it to the class.

A tasty test in Class M!

This week we have tasting food, playing castles at playtime and playing on the laptop at silver circle.

Joe’s favourite day this week was Friday because it’s a half day at school. I also liked Tuesday because it was a nice day.

Cary said “the best thing about our topic is we got to do a taste test. We tasted crisps, cornflakes and jaffa cakes. We tasted the same food from different shops.” Aiden preferred the McVittes jaffa cakes because he eats them at his Nana and Papas house. Joe liked the Kellogs cornflakes. Cary enjoyed all of the food but would buy the cheaper ones. (Good news for Mum!)

IMG_0329 IMG_0334 IMG_0342 IMG_0350 IMG_0370 IMG_0375

Caitlin tells us what she is learning in maths: “In maths I have been learning about our left and right in twister”

Adam tells us what he is learning in literacy: “I have been learning some new letters. I built a tower with letters. The letters were a,e,i,o,u these are called vowels!”

Dylan tells us about P.E. “P.E is very good because we played castles. We build castles out of hula hoops. We go into teams and try to knock the other teams’ castle down by throwing balls. Castles teaches us about good teamwork. To be a good team player you have to help others, listen and try your best.”
