Primary 2/1 Blog – Week Beginning 21.1.17

This has been another great week in Primary 2/1.

We have been learning about Robert Burns – here are some of the facts we have learned:

Marley – “He died when he was 37.  He worked as a farmer”

Max – “He was famous for writing poems and songs”

Brandon – “We celebrate Burns day to remember him.  We eat haggis, neeps and tatties”

Rory – “He wrote a famous song.  We sang Auld Lang Syne in class”

Emily – “He used to write famous poems, he wrote some about a mouse and one about haggis”

We started our learning about Katie Morag, continued to use our imagination in writing, completed some tricky maths problems using money and had a lot of fun with our new phonics jobs.  Here are our favourite bits from this week:

Leila – “Making the trees for our Katie Morag display”

Max – “Doing my own Pokemon card in Pokemon writing”

Poppy – “I liked when me and Millie got to look at Katie Morag and paint her”

Liam – “I liked learning about money”

Rio – “I liked doing money games too, I was counting on to find an answer”

Emily – “I liked doing Katie Morag’s school because it was really fun making the climbing frame”

Cameron – “I liked making the jetty and helping Leila with the trees”

Regan – “I liked counting with Pete, it was funny when we did the backwards counting song”

Leah – “I liked making the school with Emily”

Brandon – “I liked making the shop, it was a bit tricky”

Breaghannon – “I liked watching the video and making Grannie Island’s house”

Rory – “I liked watching my brother’s pantomime, he did a good job”

Millie – “I liked watching my sister in the pantomime.  The best bit was when they did gymnastics”

Keegan – “I liked when we did the challenges in maths.  I am getting better at money”

Marley – “I liked doing everything for Katie Morag”

Teigan – “I liked phonics.  I like singing the ‘a song'”

As you can see, the children really enjoyed their learning this week.  They worked really hard to pick out and then make the important places on the Isle of Struay – how do you think they got on?

We have had a bonnie week in P2/1.

Breaghannon – I liked the story of Robert the Bruce.

Poppy – Our assembly is about Robert the Bruce.  He was a King.

Griffin – I liked the story about Robert the Bruce, it was good because he had a growth mindset at the end of the story.

Max – There are lots of different tartans because there were different clans.

Leah – I liked learning Scots language.  My favourite word is bahookie.

Millie – I like learning about Scottish words.

Regan – “I have the best friends at school and the best class”

Leah – “Santa gives me the presents that I really want because I am on the nice list”

Junior Choir

Another huge well done to the members of the Junior Choir, and another proud moment as teachers for both myself and Miss Owens.

On Thursday we were recorded for West Lothian Council and did a superb job singing in two part harmony for both ‘It was on a Starry Night” and ‘Away in a Manger”.

Remember: Choir is ON after school on Tuesday for the last session of the year – new letters will be issued the first week back informing parents/carers of future rehearsals.

Thank you for your continued support!

Primary 2/1 Blog – Week Beginning 5.12.16

Hi,

Another fabulous week in Primary 2/1 full of exciting new challenges.  We have been talking a lot about having a growth mindset and have been thinking of sayings to help us send good messages to our brains.  These messages help us to challenge ourselves.  Here are some of the ways we have challenged ourselves this week:

Max – “I challenged myself by doing counting activities and practising every day”

Millie – “The way I challenged myself this week was stations and at home.  I tried to make a tricky word game and learn new tricky words”

Cameron – “I was getting better at numbers, I set challenges for myself”

Griffin – “I was challenging myself to learn new adding strategies like doubling”

Rory – “I challenged myself in phonics.  I read the word on the board then I turned around and tried to write it, it will make me better”

Brandon – “Phonics was tricky this week but I tried my best.  I wrote sentences with a phonic word and a tricky word”

Leila – “In maths we have been doing challenges, I like to challenge myself”

Liam – “I made new friends this week, it was hard at the start”

Emily – “When I’m doing maths I like to do dominoes and when I do the dominoes I count the number and try to find the number pot.  I challenge myself by covering and counting on”

Poppy – “I tried the red challenge for the first time in maths.  We had number fans and we were doing sums and adding by counting on, it was easier than I thought”

Leah – “I did adding sums with the dice, I did good”

Rio – “I was flashing my numbers.  I didn’t count them, that was good”

Keegan – “I flashed numbers to 5.  Next time I will try numbers to 10”

Regan – “I am getting faster at flashing numbers too”

Marley – “I did the red challenge and flipped numbers so the big number was in my head.  It was tricky but good”

Ellie – “I got better at adding by adding new numbers”

Teigan – “I have tried my best with talking to other teachers”

Breaghannon – “I learned new numbers this week.  I am clever”

Jonah – “I tried to think of words with ‘oa’ and ‘oo’.  ‘oo’ is tricky!”

Something to remember!

The P1 Christmas Show takes place on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.   We are still waiting for a few costumes to come in before our dress rehearsal on Monday – please can these be brought in on Monday please.  We don’t have extra costumes to provide.   Thank you.

Junior Choir

Wow!  What wonderful and talented children I have the pleasure of working with!

This morning the children of the Junior Choir sang in front of their peers at the 3 school gatherings where they did a fantastic job!  They confidently and successfully sang ‘See the Poppies’ which splits into 2 part singing in the middle – not an easy task!  A huge well done to all the choir members, I am really looking forward to challenging you more and more to develop your singing skills!  See you tomorrow at choir practice after school.

  1. What could Ralph the Reindeer do?

He was in such a stew

Because he hadn’t got a clue, how to fly.

  1. Everyone was feeling grim.

They were all fed up with him,,

Because he hadn’t got a clue, how to fly.

  1. What could Ralph the Reindeer do?

He was in such a stew

Because he hadn’t got a clue, how to fly.

Primary 2/1 Blog – Week Beginning 7.11.16

Hello everyone!

We’ve had another fabulous week in P2/1!!

The best bits have been:

Poppy – “our new reading challenge about the Balloon that went to the forest”

Liam – “turning role play into a castle”

Keegan – “I liked making a castle, I made the crown for role play”

Cameron – “I liked using scrunched up paper towels to paint with.  It looked really cool.

Max – “When the dragon surprised us with a D-mail during lunch time, he left lots of nice dress up clothes”

Rory – “I liked making the flags for the castle”

Regan – “I liked making the flag”

We were very lucky that Mrs Mansfield applied for us to enter a reading challenge. We read ‘The Great Hot Balloon Adventure’ by Stephen Holmes and then had to select our favourite part of the story.  The challenge is to draw a picture of our favourite bit and then these will be posted online and a winner will be selected!  We really hope that we win.  We spoke about our best bits of the story:

Leila – “I liked when they jumped off the air-balloon and jumped on the cloud”

Leah – “When the bunny hopped out of the air-balloon to see them”

Ellie – “When they gave the hot chocolate to the owl”

Teigan – “I liked the characters, the children looked nice”

Jonah – “I liked the bit when the rabbit landed and got the children”

Rio – “When the hot air-balloon moved into the sky”

Brandon – “I liked the part when they were going to the forest”

Marley – “I liked when the girl and the boy finished school and went home to play”

Millie – “When they were at the enchanted forest, I want to go”

Breaghannon – “I liked the hot chocolate bit”

Emily – “When the rabbit jumped out of the hot air-balloon”

We have had a week full of adventures, we can’t wait to see what else happens.

(A note from Mrs Mansfield – I have had a few parents ask me about lyrics for the Primary 1 show.  These will be posted on another blog so that all P1 parents can access it.  If there are any problems please let me, or another P1 teacher, know and we will do our best to help!)

Primary 2/1 Blog – Week beginning 24.10.16

Hi everyone!

What a week we have had…after the holiday week we came back to class and were surprised to find footprints leading towards our cosy corner!  We weren’t sure what had left the footprints or what clues we could find to help us work it out.  Here were some of our thoughts about who had left the things and the footprints:

Brandon – “It could have been a secret map in the scroll that a polar bear had left.  It would take us to a secret, invisible castle”

Ellie – “I thought it might have been a cheetah that left the footprints!”

Poppy – “I thought it was a tiger”

Teigan – “It was something very big that left the footprints!”

Liam – “It might be a big dinosaur, Mrs Mansfield would be scared a dinosaur would come to class”

Millie – “I thought it was a scary, scary, scary bad animal”

Leila – “The scroll smelled like fire!”

Max – “The scroll was like it had been in lava.  I thought it was a massive animal that breathed fire!”

Marley – “I felt sad because I didn’t want the dragon to make a mess with his footprints!”

Cameron – “I thought it might have been a crocodile because there were teeth marks in the paper”

Breghannon – “I thought it was a bit dirty, the paper looked a funny colour.”

Rory – “I thought it was a magic dinosaur because we could pick up the magic footprints!”

Emily – “I thought it might be an alligator.  I know what sound alligator starts with”

Regan – “I was happy because when I walked in I never knew it would be there”

Leah – “It was a cheetah and his tooth fell out when he ate the letter”

Jonah – “I thought it was from the flintstones time.”

Rio – “It was a tiger, the footprints were big”

It actually turned out to be a dragon that had left the footprints!!!  He had left us a scroll explaining that his home had been destroyed.  The Friendly Dragon needed help bringing Fairyland back to life, to do this we have to believe in our fairytales, read fairytales and complete jobs.  The first Fairy-tale we read was Jack and the Beanstalk – we practised sequencing the story, acting out as the characters and were able to talk and answer questions about the story.  It was all very exciting!  We are really looking forward to getting more ‘D-mails’ to help build Fairyland back up again.

Other Successes of the Week

(A note from Mrs Mansfield – Just a reminder that auditions for the School talent show will take place next Thursday – please encourage your children to practise their acts (songs, dancing, jokes…the list goes on) before then.  Children do not need to take part if they don’t want to but I look forward to seeing what our future stars have prepared.  Have a nice weekend!)
