Busy busy week for 6M!

This week we have been busy practising for our class assembly 🙂 It is on Friday and we hope you can make it! We chose two of our favourite Christmas songs ever to sing! 🙂 We had a wonderful Wednesday afternoon….it was our Christmas party and we played loads of party games and enjoyed our party food.  Have a look at our pictures!  We have also been busy practising songs for the Church Service.  We have been trying hard to practise our long multiplication sums in maths and we are finding it a bit tricky!

Busy busy week in 6M!

We have had a busy P.E week! We started the week with Streetdance, had basketball mid-week and ended the week with Destination Judo!

In our reading groups we were learning about EVALUATING questions.  The Astronauts made a character profile and had to judge which ones were most suitable to comment on.  The Stars reading group created illustrations which would be suitable for a younger audience and assess which ones would be most important.  The Planets and the Moons were using our Bloom’s Bakery evaluation questions to discuss our reading books and give our opinion of them.  We found that it is quite hard to EVALUATE our work but we are going to enjoy practising 🙂

In art this week we created autumn trees using pastels and paper.  We had a little walk around the playground to look at the differences between the trees and we used this information to help us with the pictures.

This week in maths the Hexagons have been working on the i-pads and learning to subtract 4-digit numbers.

We learned about the ‘Curiosity Rover’ and its mission to Mars.  We found out that this rover is collecting rock samples and looking for ‘life on Mars!’…( not aliens!)

Liam won a Bronze (patterns), Gold (sparring) and gold (high kick) in Tae Kwon Do!

Kieran T is practising to become a Rookie Lifeguard!

Kieran S has moved up a level in piping!

Katelyn moved up a swimming level!

Our week in P6M

This week in maths the Hexagons have been learning about addition and subtraction of 3 and 4 digit numbers.  The Pyramids group have been using our new i-pad minis to practise our mental maths skills 🙂 The Spheres have been learning about time and have been using smartboard games to help.  We learned about what constellations are and we learned that they are like dot-dot pictures in the sky.  The stars are not connected but appear to be so in the sky.  Some constellation names are Leo the lion, Hercules, Pegasus and Andromeda.  We also found out what our astrological signs are!  We made our own telescopes and we chose a constellation to view through it.  We wrote constellation stories where we chose our heroes and villians.  In French this week we learned about flags from different countries and we helped to make them for our Day of European languages.

Welcome 6m!

We were very excited to start back at school this week but we did have a few sleepy heads by Friday morning!  This week we have been busy creating our Class Charters and have been looking at our rights and actions.  We have been busy creating dioramas about our first week in P6 and have been busy making comic strips for our summer holiday snapshots 🙂  We have been busy earning house points and creating new house point posters for our new classroom.  We discovered that we have a very democratic class and we work well together in groups.  Miss McDougall thinks we are fab at this!  🙂 We are also looking forward to using our new I-pad minis and using our own devices in our class work.  Have a brilliant weekend !

V.E.Day celebrations in 7M

On Friday we had a V.E. Day party as an end to our World War 2 topic.  V.E (Victory in Europe) Day is celebrated on May 8th each year and signifies the end of WW2 in Europe.  As a class we looked at WW2 songs which were sung at that particular time and we noted that one was about the white cliffs of Dover 🙂 We made table centrepieces, hats out newspaper and V.E Day posters.  Thank you to Mrs Jamieson who made WW2 cookies with us using an authentic wartime recipe…not as sweet as we are used to but they tasted very nice.  We also had  meat paste, cucumber and jam sandwiches and we tasted SPAM meat…We decided that we quite like the taste!

Gremlins in P7M!

Oops!! Miss McDougall had problems posting on the blog last week 🙁 and managed to only posted the title! Apologies…Gremlins must have been about!  Hopefully we can post this week and update you on our progress 🙂  Last week was Climate Week and we were given a one hour challenge by Miss McDougall to design an eco-home…We came up with loads of ideas…..solar panels and tree houses seemed to be the most popular choices.  This week we have been busy making our designs 3D.  L ast week saw us taking part in World Maths Day and we were able to take part in mental maths challenges with children from different countries.  South Africa, Australia and Venezuela were the most popular countries we competed against.  We are also looking forward to the P6 show of Alice which we will see at the Academy on Thursday…Good luck P6 from 7M!

P7 Seafood visit to Bathgate Academy

Both Primary 7 classes went to Bathgate Academy to learn about and try some seafood. At the academy there were three stations. There was one where you taste seafood, another one where you learn where seafood comes from and how it gets from the sea to your plate and the last one was where you learned how to make different fish recipes.  At the first one a lady called Cat explained that it was like Come Dine With Me because she was a complete stranger that was cooking us things to eat.  At the second station we saw a couple of fish such as cod, haddock and even a live lobster and crab. Some were still alive!! I thought it was really fun and I tried some fish that I probably would have just said I don’t like without even trying it.

Happy New Year from 7M!

Reflections by Eve

Monday was the first day back, I felt so sleepy!. We got our new care classes, I got p3LM. I really like being their carer! We started our WW2 topic and we learned about how Adolf Hitler rose to power. I am excited about reading our new book-‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. We have a choice of two poems to learn for the poetry competition. ‘Wee Joukydaidles’ or ‘Scots, Wha, hae’ by Robert Burns. I’m learning the poem ‘Wee Joukydaidles’. We were given a lesson in Mandarin by Mr Chen and he taught us all about China. I had fun writing my Biography of Robert Burns. We ended the week with a Big Balbardie Blether!

Reflections by Simone

It was the first day back and we were assigned our new care classes. We started to read ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. I think it will be a sad book! I shared my news about what I did at Christmas time at circle time. In art this week we made Robert Burns’ cottage. It was hard to fir the pieces in. We wrote our Burns biographies and Miss Shephard taught us about rationing during WW2. At the end of the week we worked in drama groups with Mrs Innis. I worked well on the group task.
