P4m

This week P4m have been very creative designing a new fitness invention to finish off our inventions topic. We looked on the BBC news website at a new product that was launched during the week which aims to monitor different aspects of your health and fitness whilst you are wearing it. Our challenge was to create something that was better than the one we had read about in the article. In groups we came up with some great ideas and next week each group will be able to present their ideas to the rest of the class!
We have also been busy this week writing newspaper articles about our trip to the handball festival. We came up with some wonderful headlines…..
BALBARDIE PUTS THEIR HANDS UP FOR HANDBALL!
BALBARDIE WINS HANDBALL FESTIVAL!
BALBARDIE SCORE 80 GOALS AT HANDBALL FESTIVAL!
We found maths quite challenging this week: we were revising our times tables in Big Maths, and finding the numbers half way between two numbers. We know we will all get much better at using these skills with lots of practice!

This week – class 2

Some children from Class 2 enjoyed the Procession. All the children in Class 2 have been enjoying have some time in their new classes. They said that they are enjoying  spending time with their new teachers and the other children. Liam is at Disneyland this week and is  missing the fun at Balbardie.

Aiden – I did lots of integration with my p4 class. I enjoyed swimming this week I got my “stookie” off on Thursday. I could swim again. I was good at it.  I did some art in class P4 and liked this.

Caitlin – Visiting Class 3 again this week has been fun.

Cody – We learned how to make giant bubbles.

Dylan -I wrote about how to make bubbles.

Cody

I liked the lap and running race. I like running, I can run very fast. I feel that the ground could go on fire, with how fast I can run. I came first in both the lap and sprinting races. I got a medal for coming first. My mum came to see me at sports day I liked this very much. Had fun at the funfair!

Caitlin

I enjoyed the races at sports day. I came 3rd in one of the races. I got a medal and a sticker. It made me feel very happy and proud of myself. I liked a little bit of the gymnastics. I liked balancing on the high bar at gymnastics the best. I liked bouncing on the bouncy castle at the funfair.

Dylan

Class 2 – Our week

This week class 2 have been really busy as usual.

On Monday we went out and about down to the library. We had to look for books about weather.  Weather is our new topic we are learning about.

On Tuesday some of our class practised skipping, jumping and pushing skills at PE. Caitlin and Aiden went on the trip to the viking museum with P4LG. Caitlin said she liked that her mum came along and that her favourite part was the playroom.

In sensory room we experimented with water and made bubbles. We blew big and small bubbles, we also changed the colour of the water. Liam enjoyed this activity, he said it was fun.

On Wednesday we had special visitors in our classrooms.Caitlin said she enjoyed the activity she did with the visitorsmixing black and white paint to make a grey colour, then they painted rain clouds creating different tones with the mixed paint.

Caitlin, Aiden and Cody enjoyed celebrating success on Thursday – we all enjoyed singing the build up song.

Class 2

Class 2 are pleased to be back at school after the Easter break.
Cody and Jamie: It’s nice to see all our friends. Aiden has got a “stookie” on. That is a Scottish word for plaster cast. He broke his arm during the holidays. Dylan:The wedding was good and we went to the Italian restaurant. I missed the Golden Club event but today I had my own special egg hunt. Caitlin: I am getting really good at swimming.  Liam: We have new choose charts.

We are sad that Miss Waddell will not be working in our class so much but we are pleased that Mrs Henderson has come back after having her baby and she will be in Class 2 on Mondays, Tuesdays and some Fridays. Miss Cameron will be in on Wednesdays, Thursdays and some Fridays. That is good news too.

On Wednesday (30th) some children in Class 2 and some children in Class 1 are going to Mill Farm.We learned this week -FACT-all food comes from plants 0r animals.

We played a game to sort the foods. We had think about some foods then decide if they were  plant or animal. Some were tricky for example pasta. It comes from a plant but it is not a pasta plant. Do you know what plant pasta comes from?

In sensory room we tried food that come from a cow. -FACT- food that comes from a cow are called dairy products. How many dairy products can you name? Look at our table did you choose any we tasted.

Class 2

Class 2 have been so busy again. We have new profile jotters and have chosen the work we want to showcase in them.

We went to Poundland to buy things for Easter craft. There were so many nice things to buy but we had to stay within our budget.

Aiden: I chose a pack for decorating cupcakes. Liam: I think this was a good choice because I enjoyed decorating an Easter cake.
There were packs of different sized chicks Cody:”Chose the little chicks because there are more in the box and we can share them.”       Caitlin: I would like a  new bottle of bubbles but we are looking for craft materials so perhaps another time.

Last week our “Out & About” took us to the garage. We had been practising our measuring skills with Mrs Strain and we used them to  measure somethings in the garage. The man at the garage was so keen to show us things we were wondering if we would miss taxis.

We dressed in blue on Autism awareness day and we have another dress down day planned for Wed 23rd April. We won extra play and a dress down day because we earned so many house points.

Class 2

Class 2 have been very busy this week working on adverbs (which we now know is a word used to describe actions). Liam and Cody came up with some good adverbs – carefully, skilfully and quietly. We have also been working really well in maths, filling in the missing numbers which we are getting really good at. We are finding different ways of working out the missing numbers. Our Out and About was very interesting this week. At the bank we got to see where all the money is kept. Ssh it’s a secret we can’t tell you where but have a careful look at the photos we took.

Aiden:

I have been doing very hard work this week. This week I went Out and About to the bank. I learnt how to use a bank card – “Now I know how to use a bank card”. I went to PE with my P4 class on Monday and we played a game called castles – which is about dodging and thinking and knocking the other team’s castle down. We also did our health jotters. I went to PE on Tuesday as well with Class 2 and we played Cat and Mouse. I also went swimming on Thursday where I did some good swimming. We had Home Learning this week and we had some maths questions. I found these very easy.

Cody:

This week I have enjoyed breakfast club and I sat next to Archie who is my friend from my P3 class. With Miss. Waddell this week I learnt about adverbs which describe how we do something. You can sing – slowly, quietly or loudly. Maths jobs this week were easy and had simple answers. Some of the questions were 4 + 4, I know this makes 8. PE was good this week with Mr. Jeffries, we were practising our balancing skills. We also did a Sports Relief activity in the hall where we ran round the hall 10 times. I passed quite a few people. I enjoyed this.

Caitlin:

I have found the missing letters in my Reading this week. On Thursday we ran around the hall for Sports Relief – I ran some then walked some as I was out of breath. I got a sticker from Miss. Cameron at swimming because I was swimming well. The sticker smelt of mint. I worked with Dylan at PE to practise balancing. We had to walk around a curvy line with a bean bag on our head. On Friday we went to the Sports Relief Bake Sale where I got 3 cakes and 1 of these was a chocolate cake. It was “yummy”.

Dylan:

I have been doing some great jobs this week. Doing maths jobs on the ipad. With Mrs. Clark I have been learning about missing numbers and how to work out what they are. Sports Relief Bake Sale was on Friday and I bought a big chocolate cake, a rice krispie cake and a cake with 3 marshmallows on the top. I had the chocolate cake for snack. I made a video of all the school bells this week with Miss. Waddell then I watched it at choose time. I also did a word search for reading. It was easy. At Out and About we went to the bank and the lady was really nice and gave us our own cash box to keep at home, it even has a cash card in it.

Class 2

Aiden –

I liked when I held the chameleon at the pet shop.

At assembly I spoke about Scotland.

Class 2

Liam – On Tuesday we went to Lana’s cafe. I liked the Airforce hand-dryer. It is black with black and red writing. I had juice in a pink bottle at the cafe. I had a pink cake with sweeties on it but I didn’t like it. Airforce is fast and noisy. I was sitting with Miss.Waddell and Mrs. Clark at the cafe. I like hand-dryers.

Aiden – This week at PE we went outside with Mr.Jeffries, Mrs. Clark and Miss. Waddell. We played Buildy Tig, Bathroom Tig and Mind Reader. Mind Reader is a game when you need to think about something like Minecraft, cars or fruits. Then the rest of the people have to guess what they are thinking about. If they guess correctly the two people have a race. It was good fun.

Caitlin – Class 2 went to Lana’s cafe. I chose toast and a cup of tea. The tea had sugar and milk in it. I liked going to the cafe it was fun at the cafe. I liked playing Toilet Tig at playtime this week. The noun game I played on the computer with Miss. Waddell was okay – we had to say if the noun was a thing, person or a place.

Dylan – I liked going to Lana’s cafe. I looked at the menu and asked Lana for a cup of tea and a jam roll. I want to go back with my mum and buy her a morning roll.
I used the special highlighter to find the nouns with Mrs Clark. I was good at it. I found the nouns Dipper and dolphin.

Cody – I have been doing some work and some fun stuff at school this week. I have been doing maths and learning about nouns, nouns are naming words. I have been doing maths in my integration class this week. On Tuesday we went to Lana’s tea-room which is a cafe near the school. I had a drink when I was there. It was fun at the cafe and Aiden had tea for his drink.

Class 2

This week looked at  mental maths strategy. We practised number doubles. Knowing number doubles can help us get fast at maths. We played a card game. We had to pick a card then double the number. Snakes and ladders was fast this week because we doubled each dice number. This made the game twice as fast. Jamie won the game. We all had fun.
Class 2 learned about compound words. We got so good at making compound words that by Friday we knew lots we could paint. We  had fun guessing our friends words. Compound words are when we put two small words together to make a new word. example light+house=lighthouse
Our new topic is called Being Cool in School. Lesson 1 helped us to understand that everyone has feelings. We can respond to these feelings in different ways.
Jamie: Art is starting to get really good.
Aiden: I am good at doing good behaviour.

Dylan: Class 1 are learning about Scotland. I was able to tell them interesting facts about Robert Burns because Class 2 found out facts last term. It is good to pass on learning.

Class 2’s first week of 2014

Happy New year!
We listened to a song called “Time for another year”.  http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/songs/time-another-year Then we talked about how a year can be divided up.

Aiden: seasons (4), Cody:months (12), Liam: weeks (52) and  Dylan: days (365 or 366 ). Jamie named the 4 seasons and the 12 months. Can you name the seasons and months? Do you know why Dylan gave two answers?

P.E time has moved to a Tuesday morning. This week we played The Clapping Game, Captains Coming, and Cat and  Mouse.

Caitlin returned to school this week and on Friday we had a birthday party in Class 2 to celebrate her birthday. This was our second birthday party of the week. Aiden also had a birthday party.  Aiden’s party was on Tuesday because his  birthday was during the Christmas holidays. We had party games, dancing and party food.

This week Class 2 were looking at commas in lists. Can you find any commas in our blog?

Look at the picture of  our party food. You could write a sentence, please include a comma.

Class 2 Out and About

Class 2 have been learning in different places this week. We were very successful in transferring our learning from Class 2 to new places. On Tuesday Aiden, Dylan and Mrs Clark joined some of the people from Class 3 to learn in the Cafe. Liam was able to share his musical talents with the children in Class 1. On Thursday we joined lots of children from Balbardie at the Regal Theatre and we were a quality audience at the Aladdin pantomime. On Tuesday Caitlin joined Class 2 and 3 for breakfast. Mr Welsh also joined in the meal.

Dylan- I went to my Christmas party in the hall on Monday. I won the corners game. I felt very pleased.

My favourite part in Aladdin was when the police were chasing Wishy Washy and Aladdin.

Aiden- Aladdin was awesome. Wishy Washy went next to Miss Robertson and he thinks she is beautiful.

Class 2

In class 2 we have been learning about the 5 Pillars of Islam. Every Muslim has five duties to perform
Jamie:There is one God
Aiden:Pray 5 times a day.
Cody:Muslims have special prayer mats, we made some it was hard to remember not to put pictures of living things on the mats we made today.
We were proud of Dylan. He got the assembly certificate for writing about a famous Scot called Robert Burns. If you see Dylan you can ask him about Robert Burns.
Liam used all his coloured pencils at the same time, to make a rainbow for the Wizard of Oz float competition. Here are some of our entries for the float competition.

Aiden worked collaboratively with some children in p4g to make this time machine.

Time Machine

The new cushions in the class library seem to be a good addition.

Class 2 enjoy the new cushion in the class library.

New Student in Class 2

In Class 2 we have a new pupil. He is called Jamie. He likes Minecraft PVZ.

This week we had Get Together in Class 2. Jamie knows our welcome song.  He sang it at his previous school. He did not know the actions but thinks it will not be long till he learn it.

Mr Jeffries’  P.E. lesson was outdoors this week. We had a new activity called kick cricket. We were getting quite good at it.

Writing this week we had to choose a favourite place in Scotland. The place had to be in Scotland because we are learning more about Scotland. We wrote about:

Jamie: KFC

Cody : the swing park

Caitlin : the swimming pool

Liam: M&D’s

Dylan:Glasgow Subway

Mrs Clark: Stirling Castle

For our Homelearning this week we each got a link to help us learn our multiplication tables

http://www.totally3rdgrade.com/multiply_by_two_easy_thing_to_do.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzVyBQ5uTbo

Jamie: I have enjoyed my first week at Balbardie.

Aiden and Cody : We worked together to make a large scone which we will share.

Caitlin : I don’t believe it. I got the Assembly Certificate. I got the certificate for trying hard to write a story about my favourite place in Scotland. I sounded out the words I did not know.

Liam: Plop is an owl. He likes the fireworks.

Dylan: Did you know that the subway trains in Glasgow make the same noise each time they close the doors?

Class 2

We have been looking at how to keep safe on the internet. If you want to know more here is a link for Hector’s World. http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/5_7/hectorsworld/
We started reading the owl who was afraid of the dark. Plop, the main character in the story, found out about fireworks so we also have been learning about fireworks. We used WOW words when we explained to Plop what we now know.

Class 2

Another party in class 2. Callum will have a birthday on Sunday. We are not at school on a Sunday so we had a party on Friday. We made mini pizzas by pressing pasty cutters into a large pizza then cooking them. We ate the pizzas at the party. We played party games, danced and ate party food.
We have also have been learning lots. We are getting good at finding lines of symmetry, keeping safe on the Internet and writing stories.
Next week will be money focus week.

Class 2

In class 2 we have been practising our reading. Mrs Clark is very proud of us. Some of class 2 have linked repeated addition with multiplication. This means that 5+5+5+5 is the same as 4 x5.  When class 2 went to the sensory room it was like going under the sea because it was now Hector’s World. Hector’s World is where we are learning about being safe on the Internet.

Caitlin said “Hector’s World is awesome.  You should see it”

Liam liked going through the underground cave and wearing his Hector’s hat.

Aiden said “I liked the challenge to create a safe password to use on the Internet but I can’t tell you what it is because that not safe.”
