P3e

We have had a very busy first full week back at school. This week we have learning about Scots language and have been practising a Scots poem for the Burns Competition. We have been learning about some Scots words and phrases. We read an extract from Geordie’s Mingin Medicine and had to find all the examples of Scots words. We learned that a cludgie is a word for the toilet and muckle means big. In drama we have been working on the story of the three little pigs, but in Scots language. Miss Elliot challenged us to retell the story in Scots language. We changed some key words into Scots such as grumphy for pig and heched and peched for huffed and puffed.

In writing we had to write an alternative ending to the traditional story of the three little pigs. In some stories the wolf dressed up as a pig to try and trick the little pigs and in some stories the wolf was actually a nice and it had all just been a big misunderstanding.

In maths we have been learning about time and have been focusing on quarter past and quarter to times. We made our own clocks which we are going to take home next week to help us practise at home.

Hope you have a great weekend!

  1. What fun listening to Geordie’s mingin medicine and writing The Three Little Pigs in Scots. Sounds really interesting.

    Have a super weekend 🙂

  2. Hi Primary 3e,

I really like the sound of the wolf being a nice guy at the end of the Three Little Pigs Story as that would be a much happier ending to the story. My favourite Scottish phrase is ‘haste ye back’. Do you know what that means? Good luck to the class finalists in the Burns Poetry Competition on Monday.

    Have a lovely weekend.

    Miss Henderson
