A fast & fun week for us!

This week we started with planning our imaginative story. It was called ‘The Three Wishes’. We had to think of two characters and then think of the three wishes they would want in the story. Most of us found this quite tricky as the three wishes had to link into each other as in the story that was read to us.
In our Topic ‘Broons Aroond Scotland’ we have looked at maps of the world, the UK and of Scotland. We found out that the canon fired at Edinburgh castle, every day at 1 o’ clock, is linked to the dropping of ‘the Time Ball’ in Nelson’s Monument on top of Calton Hill, Edinburgh. The Time Ball can be seen by ships out at sea and the gun fired can be heard by the ships at sea. This was a method of communication in the past for captains to synchronise their watches to 1 o’ clock so that they could set their chronometers to guide their ships at sea! The firing of the gun meant that even if it was misty (Haar) the captains would know the time.
We found out why it rains in Scotland so much and why Scotland is so green. We get Orographic rain! 10 house points if you can tell us what this means!
We also explored how circuits are built and how they link together to pass electricity to power a bulb or buzzer. We had great fun creating different circuits and joining groups to share resources and thus make better and bigger circuits.
In outdoor P.E we have been learning about a game called ‘Rounders’. We are now getting the hang of how to play this game as it was very confusing to begin with!
