S3 Computing

Pupils will work through units of work that cover Experiences and Outcomes from Level 4processor of the Computing curricular area from Curriculum for Excellence.

Pupils will study Computing for one period each week.

The units of work in the course include:

  1. Programming with Visual Basic
  2. Computer Systems
  3. Stopmotion Animation Techniques
  4. Network Security Issues

 

Timeline for S3 Computing Course

Aug-Sept Computer Systems – Investigating the hardware required to build a computer system, including input, out and backing store devices.

 

Two written theory tasks A Theory test at the end of the unit. 

A Practical investigation.

Oct – Dec Stop-Motion Animation – This unit builds on the skills developed in S2. Pupils will develop a deeper understanding of some animation techniques and will plan, design and construct a stop-motion animation of their choice.

 

Three tasks, including planning and design for animations to be completed in class. A Theory test at the end of the unit. 

 

A group project.

Jan – Mar Programming with Visual Basic – Pupils will develop their programming skills from S2 by completing a series of tasks using a more complex programming language called Visual Basic.

 

Three or four theory tasks A folio of completed programs.
Apr – May Network Security –Investigating computer viruses and how to protect a computer from harm.

 

To be confirmed A Theory test at the end of the unit.
