Supporting Learning at Home
SENIOR PHASE (S4-S6)
Our N4/5, Higher and AH Latin classes can be found on Google Classroom. All pupils have access and should check the steam regularly for classwork. Work will be posted every week for completion by students. This work will take approximately the same time to read and complete as regular work completed in classes. Students are strongly encouraged to keep up with the work, meet deadlines which will be set and to seek clarification using the Stream option. Resources and optional work will also be added to support learning. Where students intend to continue with the subject into next session, work will be set at the next level of learning – Higher students can start their AH coursework, National 5 students can start the Higher Course.
BGE (S1-S3)
All BGE pupils have been added to Google Classroom and can access coursework, assignments and exercises virtually. Pupils will be set work corresponding to three periods of teaching per week. Pupils are strongly encouraged to complete all the tasks and assignments and return their work electronically and on time. Any questions can be asked via the Stream function on Google Classroom. S3 students who have opted for Latin next session will be expected to start the National 4 and 5 courses and work will be posted to support this.
Latin at LGS
The purpose of the Latin courses at all levels is to provide learners with the opportunity to develop translation skills and the ability to understand, analyse and evaluate through the study of Latin language and literature.
The courses provide pupils with the opportunity to develop and extend a wide range of skills. In particular the courses aim to enable learners to develop:
- The language skills of translation
- The ability to understand, analyse and evaluate
- The ability to apply knowledge of language
- The ability to plan, research and apply language skills
- Knowledge and understanding of literary techniques and Roman culture
The courses contribute towards the development of literacy skills by providing learners with opportunities to listen, talk, read and write in English, and to read in Latin.
