SQA Examination 2022
Estimated Grades
This session estimated grades for students will be submitted to the SQA based upon evidence of demonstrated attainment that the school holds for a student in each subject for National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher. Estimated grades for students have been checked to make sure they are fair and accurate.
Lanark Grammar School will provide confirmation of the estimates we are submitting to SQA. We will discuss those grades with each student and provide a tracking report on Wednesday, 20 April for your reference. If you wish to discuss further the estimates to be submitted please contact your child’s Pupil Support Teacher.
Examination Exceptional Circumstances Consideration Service
The Examination Exceptional Circumstances Consideration Service supports students who are unable to attend the exam and are eligible for consideration due to the following:
- The student has experienced a valid personal circumstance outwith their control, such as a medical issue. If this is the case evidence must be provided such as a medical letter signed by a doctor or evidence of a positive PCR test.
- In addition, for a request to be eligible the student must have an estimate submitted to the SQA based on evidence of demonstrated attainment that the school holds for them.
Only the school can submit a request. Students who have underperformed relative to their estimate will be eligible for the 2022 appeals service.
SQA Appeals Service
An appeals service will be available for students who are presented for exams and who do not achieve their estimated grade. Students will have free direct access to the appeals service and a priority service will also be available for those applying to university, college, training or employment.
In the event of an appeal, the demonstrated attainment evidence for each student held by the school will be reviewed by the SQA who will make the final decision based on their experience of applying the National Standards.
Please note the final grade awarded may be different from the school’s estimated grade. The final award can go up or down
Please be aware that the school estimates DO NOT contribute to the final grade awarded; they are used ONLY to determine whether a candidate is eligible for an appeal.

SQA publishes revision support for learners taking National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher exams
8 March 2022
The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) has published revision support to help learners undertaking National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher courses as they prepare for this year’s exams.
The materials are part of a wide-ranging package of support to ease pressure on learners following disruption to learning caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The revision support includes:
- Advance notice of content that will, or will not be in the exam
For some courses, SQA has published information on which broad topics, contexts or content will or will not be in this year’s exam. This will help learners to plan their revision and focus more on the parts of the course that will be in the exam, though learners can still use their knowledge of other parts of the course when developing their answers to questions.
- Study guides
For some courses, SQA has published study guides to help learners practice answering exam questions. These give hints and tips on how to approach different types of questions, including how to gain marks.
- Study notes (learners’ own)
In a small number of courses, learners will be allowed to create a short study note that they can take with them into the exam hall with them.
Learners can access the revision support from https://ushare.education/Ushare/Home/ , SQA’s online platform which hosts links to open-source revision materials and teaching resources that support SQA qualifications.
In mid-March, SQA will also publish its Your Exams booklet; a guide for learners about what they need to know about their exams. Copies will be available through schools, colleges, and training providers, or from the SQA website.
Learners are also recommended to download SQA’s My Study Plan app (available through the App Store and Google Play) through which they can create their own personalised study plan based on their exam timetable.
