Financial Education Week

Week beginning 8th November was Financial Education Week in school. Every day the pupils were involved in activities related to money. It was a busy, exciting week and everyone learned lots.

Financial Education Week Plan

The pupils made a Surf Shack as part of their topic and to tie in with Financial Education Week. They had lots of fun pricing items, setting up the shop and then buying and selling to each other.

Clarion the Polar Bear

Clarion the Bear

We were delighted to offer hospitality to Clarion the Polar Bear in the school overnight to keep him safe and to let him dry out! He is walking from Shropshire all the way to Cop 26 in Glasgow to highlight Global warming and the melting ice cap. The children were so excited to see him and were amazed at his size when upright. We walked behind him as he left Crawford for a wee bit which was very exciting. It is such a shame it was so wet.

Happy Hallowe’en

On Thursday 28th October Crawford Primary School had some very weird and wonderful characters going about the school.

They all then took part in a fantastic party planned by P5-7 and run by P6/7. The party included games like The Witch is in her Cave, Spooky Corners and Musical Bumps in the Night. It was a great party and everyone had the best time.

The Sea

P1-P7 continue to work on their sea topic this term. We have: made hanging sea creatures, an underwater frieze and all pupils have made their own fact file on a sea creature of their choice. Next, we will look at sea transport and pupils have made a plan of a boat they are going to construct.

Hibari Kan Judo Club

All pupils were given the opportunity to take part in a judo taster session from Hibari Kan Judo Club. The children learned some judo moved and worked together well. The instructors told them the opportunities that Scottish Judo competitors are given. This includes them travelling all around the world to participate in competitions. The pupils were given a leaflet detailing where the club meets and how to join.

Rugby Training

P4-P7 have been participating in rugby sessions with Biggar RFC. The sessions have included: warm up games, skills activities and lots of fun. All pupils have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions. Thank you to Biggar rugby club for organising this!

Author visit

We had Stuart Reid- author of Gorgeous George series of books- visiting the school this morning 22nd September to give us a presentation on his books and his work as an author. He was very entertaining and the children thoroughly enjoyed his antics and presentation. He taught the children a great deal through his humour which was at the right level for them. He asked for volunteers to act out parts of his books and introduced us to Grandpa Jock. He was very impressed with the behaviour and positive attitude from our pupils. The school has purchased a copy of each of his books as the children expressed a wish to buy them to read. Pupils will be allowed to borrow these from the class library. It felt good to welcome a visitor to school after such a long time.

Sea Topic

P1-P7 have been learning all about pirates as part of this term’s IDL topic. The children listened to a story about pirates and illustrated pictures to match. Everyone really enjoyed this and produced wonderful pieces of work.

The children have also been acting out pirate stories, as part of drama, and have used swords and other equipment to role play.

The children are now looking at sea creatures and have started to make a Fact File. All of the children have chosen a sea creature to write about and are looking forward to sharing their finished pieces with you all!

Outdoor Learning at Fairy Gate Wood

Last Wednesday, we made our first trip of the school year to Fairy Gate wood. Our focus was literacy and the pupils participated in a variety of activities throughout the day. Lunch was around the camp fire and the children also made toast with chocolate spread. A highlight of the day was free play when the children were able to explore the woods and play together!

The Daily Mile

At Crawford Primary we strive to be fit and healthy. We take part in the Daily Mile to help us stay this way. At a set time every day we walk around the school for 15 minutes. What an amazing view we have from our school playground. We are very lucky!
