Period Poverty
Period Positive South Lanarkshire
South Lanarkshire Council has been consulting young people on the use of free Period Products in schools. Results of this consultation will be shared in the coming months.
Outside of schools, residents of South Lanarkshire have been able to order Period Products online which are then delivered to their homes. Products are also available free of charge in every South Lanarkshire building.
Our P6/7 girls completed this survey about the service provided in primary schools. South Lanarkshire Council would appreciate if parents and family members could also complete the survey.
Beyond the Panda
P4-7 are working hard on the Beyond the Panda topic with Sandie. This week was the last session and the pupils learned about tea ceremonies in China. They are very excited to learn that Sandie will visit the school on Tuesday 10th May. We are all looking forward to meeting her face to face after a session of online lessons.
World Book Day
This week we have been celebrating World Book Day. All pupils received a book token and are hoping to spend them very soon. We listened to a talk by Oliver Jeffers who showed the pupils how to draw the characters in his new book The Hueys. He then told his story “Stuck” and illustrated it as he told it. We all enjoyed this talk and are looking forward to enjoying more on Scottish Book Trust’s Author Live website.
We have also listened to a Happy World Book Day message from author of “Varjak’s Paw” S.F. Said.
To celebrate reading for pleasure we have been wearing “Ask me what I am reading” badges to encourage chatting about books.
Roman artefacts
What fun we all had when we received the two boxes of Roman artefacts from Biggar Museum. The pupils tried to guess what some of the objects may have been used for. We had some very interesting guesses.
A big thank you to Biggar Museum for loaning us the items.
Reading Schools Silver Award
We are delighted to hear that our evidence plan has passed the accreditation and we have been awarded the Silver award. The pupils and children have enjoyed working on this process and are loving the reading activities we have introduced. Reading Rocks!
Roman Topic
In our Roman topic this week we made Roman bath houses. What a great job P1-7 made of them. A spa day there would be fabulous we all agreed!
