Homework 27.01.20

This week we will be consolidating the phonemes b and u and the spelling words be, but and you.

This is also the end of ‘block 3’ and so I will complete an assessment on these phonemes:

b,u, f, o, g, l

and these spelling words:

be, but, you, for, if, on, go, get, got

As always keep practising all spelling words and phonemes as they are all being used, especially as we begin to write more sentences.

I have added a new tab to the top of the page ‘phonemes’.  This gives you some words which can be used with each phoneme as well as an overview of the blocks of phonemes and spelling words covered so far.

If you have any questions or would like additional information on anything we are covering in class please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Kind regards

Anthea Chan

Monday 20th January

This week we will be learning the phonemes b and u. The spelling words are be, but and you.

Please help your child practise these, giving them opportunities to read and write them.  Also have a go at dictating short sentences to your child, using the phonemes and spelling words they have learnt so far, such as;

We got a flag for you.

I am glad you did it for me.

He can not go if he is sick.

Also this week is ‘Scots Week’ and we will be reading some book in ‘scots’ and also reciting some rhymes in ‘scots’.

Should you have any questions or queries please don’t hesitate to contact me or see me at the end of the day.

Many thanks

Monday 13th January

This week for homework please continue to practise the phonemes f and o.   The spelling words also remain the same as last week; for, on, if.

Please continue to practise all previous phonemes and also read and write previous spelling words.

We will be reading two more reading books this week.   We have now moved onto the ‘yellow’ band of books.  Please take a moment to read the skills involved with these books on the reading tab.

There is also a laminated strip in your child’s school bag with information on how to access ‘study ladder’ .  Study ladder is a website which enables class teachers to set specific tasks/games which will support activities within the classroom.  The majority of the tasks will be linked to Numeracy and Literacy.

Finally,  there is also a letter in school bags regarding ‘parent pay’ and how to set up an account.

Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.  Fingers crossed the weather improves!

Kind regards

Two reading books will also be issued this week.

Please practise the new words and phonemes as well as reviewing previous words and phonemes too.  Also have a go at dictating short sentences for your child to write, which use a combination of the spelling words and words which can be created using the letters we have learnt.  Examples are;

We ran into my den.

He can kick a can.

I am at my desk.

Many thanks for your support and if you have any questions or queries don’t hesitate to contact me.

Homework 9.12.19

It’s Christmas Show Time and also the Primary 1 party (on Friday), so a busy time for us in room 1!

Many thanks if you were able to provide your child with something Christmassy to wear; headband, jumper, a piece of tinsel and feel free to send something in tomorrow.  I will keep them in school until Friday and will then send them home.

We  will also be continuing with our usual Literacy and Numeracy as much as possible too.  Our new phonemes this week are g and l.  The new spelling words are;

got

get

go

I have given out the new spelling words which you can add to the others to keep and practise.  As well as practising the phonemes and words, we are now beginning to write short sentences such as;

He can kick a can.

I am at my desk.

I am in my den.

I sat at my desk.

Please practise writing sentences to help your child use the spelling words and have a go at using their phonemes to create new words.

I have also put a short letter in school bags regarding some tasting we will be doing in science.  This is a copy of the letter:

As part of our Science work we will be exploring and discussing ‘The Senses’. Part of this will involve tasting different foods, such as; salted pretzels, grapefruit, raisins and celery. If you do not wish your child to taste these foods, please contact the office by Wednesday morning.

On Friday for the P1 party the children can come to school dressed for their party or you can take your child home at lunch time to get changed.

During the last week of this term I am hoping that we will be baking some Christmas biscuits.  I will send out a letter with the recipe on and will also post it on the blog later this week.  If your child is unable to eat anything in the recipe please let the office know.

Thank you for your support, especially as it becomes busier and busier.

we, can, into.

Many thanks for your support in learning these phonemes and words, especially at this busy time of year.

Homework 25.11.19

This week we will be learning the phonemes c, k and ck.  These phonemes have the same sound and the same action!

Our new spelling words are can, we, into.  A new  list will be sent home today to add to your collection.  Please keep practising all the words, reading them and writing them.

We are continuing to make new words with the phonemes learnt so far and the children are becoming more confident with using the phonemes they know.

Library Visits

Those children that had their book bags today will have a library book in their school bag.  They can change it for a new book next Monday.  If your child forgot their book bag today they will get the opportunity to go along next Monday, as long as they have their book bag!  If the book bag is lost and you would like your child to go to the school library then please send in £1 on Monday (preferable in an envelope marked Library book bag) and they will get a new one.

Many thanks.

Homework 18.11.19

We will spend this short week consolidating the phonemes e and d and the spelling words as, did and he.   The children are also beginning to write short sentences using the spelling words learnt and also by creating new words with the phonemes learnt.  The sentences are read aloud (slowly) and the children have a go at writing them.  Examples of these are;

The ant is in the pan.

It is in a pan.

I sat on an ant.

The ant is on the pan.

Also on Wednesday we will be walking around Burnside and then walking to Overtoun Park.  As it is very cold please ensure your child is wearing warm clothes, with a hat and gloves.

Many thanks
